Gary Ablett splurges $3m on Gold Coast mansion at Broadbeach Waters

For $3.4m, that's kinda of "kit house" like. Anyone with me? I mean it has a pool which is great, and access to the canals, but $3.4m, really?

Agree, if I had that coin to splash around I'd like to think I could find something much more appealing. Still, he's a star and obviously enjoying himself.

Lol at Nathan leeching off him :thumbsu:

another architecture student really likes this. What an ugly, timeless house. In 20 years, it shall be laughed at

Yeah a red brick box with a tiled roof and roses along the path to the front door looks a lot better..

Thats an awesome pad in a perfect position. Jealous much?

What is it with some people? We are almost as celebrity/star trivia addicted as our American friends. Abblett is a well heeled and famous guy, decides to splash some lolly on some new digs and all of sudden it's news - why? Because he's a notable. Big deal, get a life guys and talk about FOOTY.

I have just read 6 pages of rubbish. You have all missed the point:

How good would it be to spend a few hours in that spa with Lauren Philips? Nice and roomy in there. :D

You have a problem. I know Collingwood won the final and all, but do you have to try to be an arseh*le about everything.

I didn't mention Narre Warren as a place where he could buy a house.
All I said that "there's some much more impressive homes out my way ( there are ) that you'd probably get for a Million cheaper, but they arent on a Canal within spitting distance of a goldcoast beach ". Inferreing that the location of Abletts house , "in Broadbeach" , "on the canal " close to the ocean " is what makes the place expensive.

You then chose to bag my comment and made derogatory comments about another suburb 9km from where I live

Why don't you just stop typing and look at pictures of meter maids or something.

You're clearly very insecure about the suburb you live in. Maybe when you move out of mums house and get your own place you will feel at ease.

Wrong. I have a mum in Law in the back yard which is a mistake I ( and my wife who NOW see's sense ) can urge everyone to avoid, but otherwise you are way off the mark.

Go check out the metermaids.

It's the land.

Look, I certainly see where you are coming from. A house can be knocked down, renovated or left as is, but the land size doesn't change. And they don't "create" new land in Broadbeach. So it has a value. $3.4m? No. But certainly a lot, it's got canal access and would be close to everything. Plus Broadbeach is a nice area (my grandparents lived in Florida Gardens for 30 years).

But still, for $3.4m you could buy an old Queenslander (albeit not in Broadbeach), and renovate the hell out of it, or buy some land similar to what Gaz did, and get an architect to whip up something that looks great, and is as sustainable as they come.

My issue is that Gaz has spent $3.4m on something that looks like an AV Jennings home, in an awesome location.

This is what you get in Broadbeach for $2 000000. But there is nowhere for Gary to park that little rowboat he will buy.

I'm sure he was able to talk the price down to $3 million, but the place does lack character, and it doesn't appear too cosy. It would still be comfortable enough to live in for a few years of course because it has everything that is needed, and the location to shops and entertainment on Gold Coast Highway is good, and the drive to the Gold Coast Stadium is not too bad. The style of the house wouldn't be my choice though, but that's often just the way it is there.

Not my cup of tea, but I guess it is the Gold Coast and at least it does have a sweet garage....

Probably get around $3000/week. Bit of negative gearing, not so bad.
Probably better to buy at the bottom of the market though.

Looking at the rental properties in that suburb and the surrounding ones, I highly doubt you would get anything more than 2k, and it would be hard to rent it out for that in a timely manner. Anyway, negative gearing means you are losing money. It isn't a good thing. ;)

There are some properties asking 2.5 and 3 K's.
I agree it would be hard to rent out, a limited market in an area where apartments are cheaper and more popular. After a point it becomes less of a question about whether its worth it, and more to do with who can afford it.

Negative gearing is popular among those who want to reduce their taxable income, but it sucks bigtime if the property doesn't go up in value significantly while you are doing it. Basically the portion of the tax that you would have paid if you didn't have the loss goes towards buying you a house.

If only I had this sort of problem.

It is if you want to get your taxable income down, and you are sorta banking on the property value going up. But at $3.4m I doubt it. But he's good at running, and kicking a ball, not necesserily business. So I shouldn't be expecting too much.

Is it just me or is that tweet sarcastic? He's suggesting he hasn't bought a mansion at all... the owners won't mind if everyone comes around, because he's not the owner :)

Yep, Agreed. Its the location and teh sheer volume of house, but in terms of style and quality, IMO it lacks a huge amount. But hey, fo a cashed up Bogan fron Geelong its a palace.

Too many empty spaces in modern houses. Bit boring.
The modern cell block house design is getting old quickly imo.

Collingwood supporters like 'Cell Block' design, reminds them of where they have spent a lot of their life.
