Re: New GC jumper/monkier/logo- discussion

Gold Coast's is just lazy, it's a shame because the away and the clash are creative, vibrant and look like they've had a lot of work put into them. Although I think they could have made the wave even bigger and bolder.

They chose red, which is the epitome of lazy.

Re: New GC jumper/monkier/logo- discussion

I'm not a Gold Coast 'Suns' fan & thank god I'm not, because that strip isn't inspiring in the slightest.

It might seem like I'm poking fun but I'm not - being a designer by trade I set myself a challenge of designing a (subjectively) better jumper design in 15 mins. I came up with 10 options (some of them are pretty ugly 1 of them (I think) is hilarious)

But any of them would be a better balanced, more classically inspiring jumper than the modern day farce the GC FC have ran with.

thoughts?

ps. it might be worth noting that yes... I decided not to use the GC logo (which I think is horrible) but a good footy jumper (in my opinion) should be simplistic & be able to be knitted by your grandma... she's going to go blind trying to get the typeface right in that GC logo..

Mr Eagle's right (and i dont say that often) these are horrible

While I appreciate the feedback - don't be offended if I ignore advice from a
supporter of the 2nd worst looking jumper in the league

actually our away jumper is the best jumper in the league so I'd stfu if i were you

I've seen a few people mention that the red "away" jumper should be the home one, so I decided to do a quick design of a blue away jumper that could be its replacement. I don't mind it personally and I think blue and gold is more "Gold Coast" than the red.

I still loathe that "GC" logo though!

Re: New GC jumper/monkier/logo- discussion

I am bitterly disappointed in the outcome of this, they had so much fan input which has clearly been completely ignored. Whoever had the idea that this horrible logo would look good with some sun rays around it needs a slapping and a sacking.

I don't remember anyone liking the innitial logo, we all managed to take it as we thought it was just until they unvailed their new name and new logo. Clearly not.

They asked the fans what they thought, when they didn't like the response they chose to just be the Gold Coast football club and let a nickname grow. They tried again, still didn't get what they wanted, but went with their 'brilliant' idea anyway. Stubborn marketing at its finest which I hope comes back to bite them in the ass.

Yeah I agree with this. Narrowed down to 5 possibilities, and they chose none of them. And if a nickname is naturally evolving, why choose one just 12 months later?

The GC logo shouldn't be so dominant. It's like that Simpsons episode where they do a variety show, Lisa is replaced and the new Lisa has a giant L on all her outfits so you know she's meant to be Lisa.

Drawn by a 6 year old with a compass and ruler, or knittable by granny - yes I agree. Those designs, I like some better than others, and given the colours to work with... it's going to be hard to get an awesome design.

Like you say, Port Adelaide finally got the hint, and it took a 7 year old to point it out.

Just what I've been thinking: the home jumper is bad, get rid of it. Use the away jumper as home, and the clash jumper as clash AND away. Or, use this blue variant. :)

When I look at the predominant red strip, and I see the Suns name, all I can think of is SUNBURN. Their marketers probably tried to market a brown toilet cleaner or a green margarine.

Change the home and away then there's no real need for the clash jumper.

For the weagles here, your comments only strengthen my claim that Aussie Rules fans are colour blind.

Re: New GC jumper/monkier/logo- discussion

So why isn't it still your home jumper? You Sandgropers were actually the trailblazers in jumperfail.
Good question. Probably because it sells well enough anyway and by having the navy candy bar wrapper as the home helps its sales.

lol, there were plenty of fail jumpers before us
