A very good get for East. But for Ryan himself, a big fall from grace. From Werribee, to Lara, to East! Next step, retirement!

I cant handle these comments. How is it when a player goes to a supposed lower league he gets drilled?

We should be applauding the fact we're getting the likes of Closter, Grgic, Wallace, Fopiani, Riccardi, O'Toole, Stewart and other very good players to play in this league..

One day this league might be much higher on the pecking order.. You can already see it by the Bellarine's continual refusal of an interleague game. And rightly so because the best of the best in Gdfl would quite easily beat the best of the BFL and I cant see any other reason than this is why they dont want it played.

The Bfl team would be 3 quarters ammo's players anyway, and we all know how petrified they are.

no rumoursallfacts are you on drugs,i have played both leagues and there is a big margin between the bfl and gdfl,as is the gfl and the bfl.

That's why I said "one day" it'll be higher on the pecking order.. I never said it was better right now, however I still believe an interleague game would be fantastic.

The difference in the leagues isn't with the top-line players it's with the fringe players. The last 5 or 6 picked in a GDFL side wouldn't get a sniff in a BFL side. That's where watching and playing games in each league would be different. I'd also like to know the last time you played GDFL because I'd say it's been the last 3 years where the massive improvement has come.

My original point was the bagging of players for coming to the league. The league has to start somewhere and the increasing defection of quality players to the GDFL is great for Geelong footy.

yep, i've even spoken to fellow journalists who cover the BFL and although the overall standard of the Bellarine league is better, they also agree that a GDFL side would knock off a BFL one. the top line of the GDFL is very, very good

Bannockburn must be in with a real shot at the flag this year, looks like theyembarrased corio at there home ground. So much for people saying they recruited the wrong guys!!

Looking forward to this weeks games. We'll have a better idea of where teams are at instead of just hearing about it.

G-West v Winch - Expect a physical contest. Both teams had a year to forget. I cant see West going any better this year, probably worse than last. Their coaching is all over the place. Winch will improve probably 70% on last year. They have recruited aggressively and picked up an even mix of players. Having said that the night games always stay close, I think Winch will jump West early though and go on to win by about 8 goals.

BPH -Belmont - Great match-up first up for both teams. BPH have kept the majority of their list and added a few. Belmont have recruited quite well. Mainly added experience to their line-up. I think BPH will be too much for them first up. It'll take Belmont a few games to get in the swing of things. BPH by 35 points for mine.

East Geelong v Werribee - Once again another test straight up for both teams. East Geelong have had some hype around them for this season. They have picked up quite a few, some young and fresh and others experienced. Rob Chamberlain is a huge return for the club and expect a few very good signings before round 1. Werribee will be on par with Winch in terms of improvement. They'll make the 5 and could easily snatch a top3 berth. Aggressive recruiting, very quick and keen side that play for each other. This will be very tight, East will need some games to gel as will the Centrals. I'll go East by a small margin at home.

Corio v Banno - No love lost here as the last time they played Banno knocked corio off in a final. Admittedly that game should have been won by corio and they'll remember that. Banno have been super quiet, they are always strong and competitive though, especially early in the year. The loss of TMG wont be too bad for them. If you beat him you won the game generally because they were so reliant and one-dimensional. His loss will make them more unpredictable. Expect the bulk of their scoring to come from the midfield and Naylon will go deeper. Corio have added a couple and lost very little, another year together will help however they'll want their older guns to stay fit. Tough, Tough call. Corio by a kick

Inverleigh v North - Over in the sticks they've been quiiet but i think Inva have improved again. Their kids are a year older and their confidence would be pretty high. They start like a house on fire as do most kids, but they'll need to sustain it for the entire year if they want to play finals. North seem to have remained stagnate for a couple of years now, and even though they added a big name coach I doubt it will have any impact on their results. Inva to win very comfortably in this one.

Anakie v Thomson - Anakie, well they have copped it left, right and centre so far this year. Completely written off and from what i gather for good reason. We'll see how tough they really are this year but their character as a whole club is questionable to say the least. They'll lose big time in some games this year and this probably wont be an exception. Thomson may be slight sliders, should still play in September but i expect them to take up spots 4 or 5. They'll be 1 from 1 after this round though. 60+

Would love some thoughts on these predictions and other peoples picks.
bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

some very big results this weekend:thumbsu:

Banno were terrific against an understrength Corio side (no Potter, Nicholls, Ferguson.. the list goes on) but that's taking nothing away from Banno who were magnificent. Banno have got some really good players in their side.. their forward looked 10 times more dangerous without TMG in it which was unbelievable. Naylon will kick 70+ goals this year, Riccardi kicked 5 i think and Furtula is a star! very, very good footballer:thumbsu:

big wins for Winch and North.. Belmont will be happy with their result too, getting that close to BPH out at the hill is a great effort:thumbsu:

heard last night that banno coach kev dans, played himself in the seniors after looking at the seconds and thinking no-one better than himself to fill a spot in the side after a player withdrew friday night......
surely thats a kick in the guts to wattdog, wishy and really all the seconds players.also A.Woods sighted at north shore/bell park game in first half...

Heard on the grapevine that Damien Vassiliou will be pulling on the Bell Post Hill guernsey by round 5.

And did Mark O'Toole play for Corio on Saturday? I seen he was named in the paper, Corio would love a full year from him.

Whilst waiting for the Formula 1'S to start, I though I would respond to clear up my comment.

It's not the fact that he is playing in a lower league, it's the manner in which he has done it. Don't quote me on this, but I think it's his 3rd club, in 3 years, beginning with the VFL, and ending at East.

Reading the Addy on Friday for an insight into the season ahead, I was dissapointed that the same old faces were again lauded as keys to their teams chances in season 09. (O Toole, Lewis, Skrobba, Fastuca etc) That's not saying they were wrong.

For those of you interested out there, I want to know of the bloke at your team (young or old) who, week in, week out, does his job with minimal fuss. He may be recognised within, but to the outside world he goes by unnoticed. In the past.

Matheson from Nth Geel comes to mind.

Anyone else?

Interesting to note the journo doing the review claims 'sources' but doesn't reveal who they. Reeks of sources that don't exist.

Why would Corio play 4 kids that played under 18's in the morning in the senior game in the afternoon (as reported in the Addy). Surely reserves players could have done a better job and also had fresh legs. Puzzling move.

I guess we cant really take alot out of the Banno v Devils game. If that really was the injury list for corio then you can only say Banno flogged a team they had to.Corio will be much better with Cliffy running riot and Harry Potter Fergy and Nevada running around. And this is not a shot at Banno at all,I reckon this will be a cracker next time round and hopefully both teams are full strength. As for the blokes who do the Addy, not much support here. They seem to know the competition in general but they go over the same old players.Yeah Ricky is great,Skrobba and Lewis but some of the other old blokes mentioned havent had a kick in two years. Move with the times. Lastly on the player who goes with little fan fair,Patty I think his name is for East is a huge talent

Obviously the blokes mentioned were a bit too young to play in the senior side or else Kev still has a massive opinion of his very limited playing ability. Clubs wonder why they lose their younger players... It's not like Banno have a shortage of numbers...

Hello all, Your on the money WOM, i've jumped on board the Grovedale bandwagon, my old stomping ground. I'm looking forward to the new role. It's a big step up to GFL, I hope i'm up to it!! ;)

Other than it being your old stomping ground, any good reason why you decided to ditch the Lions? Political ambitions, maybe...

Great win for North Geelong on the weekend, great to see. Not trying to take anything away from North but Inverleigh may have taken a few steps backwards this year. Time will tell. Have heard Jace Kelly hurt his knee pre season and will miss a fair few weeks for Inver. Tough start to the year with Werribee at Werribee, Belmont, BPH, East, Thomson and Corio in the next 5 weeks. Could possibly be 0 - 6.
