i dnt follow the gfl at all.ive been a gdfl follower for over a decade. I dont know the extend of this kids desire to leave.. but making a kid play where he doesnt want too isnt a good look for belmont or for this comp. it may play a part in good kids avoiding this comp in the future.
although i can sympathise with belmonts position this thread has ragged on a lot of clubs for doin this in the past
I agree with you 110% but i believe they have already let quite a few go for various reasons, going home, higher league etc, they have to draw a line somewhere especially so close to season start and besides that, what do the Giants hope to acheive by drawing players from the GDFL, no wonder they sit so low at GFL

North Shore made 2 players sit out last year instead of playing GDFL, even though they were bullied and treated poorly.
Why can a GFL club hold a player to their contract but not a GDFL club??

I see both sides but you leave a club in the lurch asking to leave so late. Maybe prior to Xmas I understand.

GDFL players are turning them down. Fact

Keep dancin around my point punchy show us those quick feet. not quick enough to avoid a reputation of holding young kids back from playing gfl though.
hopefully hes telling his mates at Deakin how he’s being denied the opportunity to play the highest level footy.

Think you're completely missing the point Stewie. The kid was in Geelong last year and would be totally aware of the standard of football in the 3 leagues. If his claim is he wanted to play at a higher or the highest level why did he sign at Belmont? He could have fronted up at Grovedale or South Barwon, which are close to Deakin, or a host of other clubs for that matter, anytime over pre season - you actually don't need an invitation. My guess is he thinks he may have made a mistake by signing at Belmont, had a bigger offer and wants out, but that's bad luck. He might just have to suck it up if he wants to play footy. Simply using "playing at a higher level" as your get out clause should make no difference, especially if he has a contract. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Integrity in footy is almost a forgotten word in footy nowadays and the Giants and the kid are clearly showing none of it! You don't want people at your club that don't want to be there, but sometimes you have to draw a line in the sand, and maybe this is the time.

If contracts mean nothing then here is a curly one for you, can this kid play for giants this weekend in the praccy giants v lions

Probably can? But it really doesn't matter at the end of the day. Unless he's cleared or wins an appeal and he wants to play footy in Geelong it will be at Belmont.

He and the Giants could very well do that, but if you’re footy dept was fair dinkum you wouldn’t be wasting a position on the ground only 2 weeks out from round 1, on a kid that won’t be playing the 2018 season at the GFL GIANTS

Bloody oath he can, and unless he owes the club money, jumpers, equipment of some description then the club has no leg to stand on

dont flatter urself punchy u played in west geelong n the kid is 200cm.
I herd u signed him n he didnt realise there were 3 divs n then he told ya he wants to play gfl n ur not clearing him. if true its very murky water. if he lives on res u shuld clear him to south barwon

Stewie, Stewie, Stewie - Did you type that after 8 pots at the Saleyards Pub????
The kid in question played Barwon Heads Reserves last year so is well aware of the structures before he signed on....I have a valid point and brought it up, bad look for the giant roosters who must be desperate to avoid relegation, thanks to those who have commented in favour, good luck to those who have a different opinion.

Stewie, I can tell you that I had initial contact with this kid, he was originally from ovens and Murray, was entering his second year on campus at Deakin, and was fully aware of the structure of the local leagues. So for Steve Toohey to approach the kid whilst contracted is a very poor look for the GFL GIANTS. And knowing the good work that guys like Paul Eastman and Tom Morrissey put into that club, I’m sure they would be a bit disappointed with what Steve Toohey has done.
Buckets to Steve

I made the club aware of your post. So I'm simply here to pass on the message that if you have an issue or grievance please contact the club to discuss the matter as they would be more than happy to do so.

On a personal note to come out and name someone in an accusation on which they cannot respond to said accusation is very poor form.

Steve Toohey is a good person who puts in a huge amount of his time at the club and to have his name besmirched by some anonymous person is as previously stated, poor form.

Take it to the club, not the internet.

This message has also been conveyed directly and I mean directly to the top at his club, and I quite happily extend the opportunity to the right of reply directly to the person I’ve mentioned.lets see if his got the gonads to come out in public and defend his position, rather than operating in an underhanded and inappropriate fashion.
