Belmont Lions are one of the few or even the only GDFL club who work hard and last year and this year have Auskick, 9s, 11, 13s, 15, 17, 19s, yes it is a struggle for numbers surrounded by Grovey and Sth Barwon but at least they have a junior complement thanks to our junior co-ordinator and club great Cogs.
AND to run out in ROUND 1 seniors we will have (or in the mix for selection) 9 ONE pointers, all from the juniors, Lachy and Jordy Edwards, Mitch Boal, Jay Kirwood, Keegan x 2 Bros, Brent Watkins, Billy Auger, Brad Edwards then Scott Pickett assistant senior coach, plus Nathan Frye playing coach of Reserves of which more kids are playing 2s....most of the recruits have wandered in from Uni or from mates already at the club saying it is a positive place to be around.
So dont continue to single Belmont out or do some homework on the other clubs, then post an apology. cheers, have a nice day.

You certainly do ramble on Punching Judy,
Mitch Boal and Billy Auger will be lucky to play much senior footy this year as your signings will probably keep them out, after that there are only 6 other names on that list you provided which leaves the vast majority as outside inclusions which is fine, the question i asked was basically would it be sweeter if there was a higher content of home grown talent but in todays footy it doesn’t seem to matter, sadly i used Belmont as a reference but it applies to pretty much any team, as for an apology, i’d rather cut my throat than apologize to you ya goose

Belmont was forced to recruit in players very heavily over the past 2 years. The president has apparently pissed a lot of players (long serving) off which resulted in them leaving the club. I have also heard that the president clashed with treasurer forcing him to recently depart also..

Happy for Punchy to correct me if I am wrong 🕵🏻‍♂️
 
I see ryan normington has signed with east. He is a very good footballer it will be interesting to see how he goes.
However it doesn’t sound like there is much coming out of Richmond Cres and with their neighbours coming off a premiership I think the once mighty eagles might find themselves taking home the wooden spoon. What has happened to the club it was once a finals regular.

Lets face it, Belmont were pretty much cow fodder two years ago, i don’t think losing said local players was a big loss, they could only go up from there

He played last year, albeit mostly in the twos

What would I know? I'm just a rambling old goose according to my wife and swamp dog.....:)
Lets just bounce the ball and watch an interesting GDFL year, enough Belmont pot shots from disgruntled ex Belmont 2s players please, fair enough? Does no good for anyone, got a problem come down home game v Bannockburn and have a beer and enjoy a close game I hope.

Spot on Punchy. Its going to be a ripper year for the GDFL. I think every single team looks to have improved except maybe BPH, (you cant replace the quality that they have lost sadly) which means it really is going to be the best year of footy we have seen for a long time in the GDFL.

It’s only a practice match but the devils only lost by a couple of goals against BPH today

I watched that game yesterday.
Looked like Corio had quite a few available, not sure if Hill had that many in their senior side playing.

Thanks Hawk, its nice to have a friend on big footy, we should all get together, unite and wear a hat with out alias nicknames on head, and gather on the wing at Ammos for the Gdfl v Bellerine interleage game, I will buy a slab to share with everyone, even Swamp Dog is welcome, now onto the season opener which should see how are a few clubs on going......

Inverleigh host the Giants....very interesting clash, Giants maybe in a close one....?
East Geelong v Anakie, another good game to see how both clubs are going.
Winch host BPH, scoreline will prove a few things, Winch look good on paper.
Now Pulse game of the round, Belmont v Riccardi's Bannock, can Lions be competitive and cause an upset, Bannock have a big forward line, good luck to our full back.....
Werribee v North....should be a good indication of both clubs.
And all the best to Corio to put in a good performance at home v reigning and hot tip back to back Thomson Shogun Concrete Tigers.

Interesting round of footy and certainly not what i expected, probably the only predictable game was Corio V Thomson.
Belmont humped
BPH humped
Didn’t think East would beat Anakie but did and likewise with Giants v Inver
North gave Werribee a big wakeup and i honestly thought Werribee were gonna be a big improver

Could have been much worse for Corio if Thomson didn't have 5 or so walk up ones players not taking the field either
 
Thoughts from the weekend then?
I didnt expect North Geelong to get over Werribee at all, or east to win for that matter.
Like weve said all pre season, going to be a ripper year and by the results in the first round weve been spot on.

The rolling draw makes no sense really, when is it ever okay for the bottom placed side to play against the premier round one? Yeah it might take a little bit more time to produce but its not that hard to do a proper draw.
