29 years and counting of young players being drafted and retiring in disappointment at the good old navy Blues. If you think about it it's kind of unfair that these guys who were elite juniors fizzle out having never lived up to their potential all while steeplechasers and high jumpers and GFL rejects turn into elite, All-Australian calibre footballers and become premiership heroes at the Geelong retirement village.

Just imagine you grow up being the best in your field, but because you get sorted into an environment of failure (Carlolton) you have no say but to see these random assortment of blokes who've rarely touched or been serious at football walk into the Hallowed Halls (Geelong) and outperform you by every metric. You'd be absolutely filthy. I would be anyway.

Well no, even if it is a weird bump, Holmes was a big part of our run to the flag even though he missed the grand final. His contribution on the wing was outstanding over the second half of the season. That’s a seriously absurd comment. He was outstanding in the back half of 2022.

How is any player in their third game inching anywhere, let alone towards ‘bust’ territory?

I put my hand up and gladly admit I doubted Scott and our team for a very long time. 2022 proved many wrong.
Incredibly lucky fan base I think we are.

To once more be a decent chance for finals in 2024 with Selwood & Smith retired, no longer require Duncan, Rohan or Bews . . . . it's any wonder some neutrals despise us.

2022 washed away so much angst.

Horse wins Sydney that flag and the decision to poach Buddy from under GWS nose was vindicated, he's lauded as a great coach with two flags in two eras (sound familiar) and their fans are contented.

Untried players from high draft picks are in the potential AA calibre youth category.
Untried players from later rounds is evidence of our inability to draft talent, and thus this thread has a purpose.

Just ignore the development of Cat B rookie Blicavs, or rookies Close, Z.Guthrie, Dempsey or Jack Henry. Late draft pick Miers. All bar 1 are premiership players. Kolodjashnij was past pick 40 from memory and Bews was a late pick, both have had good careers.
That's just from players we have now. Past players would add so many more.

3 of these awards can only be won by a single player per year barring a tie. In theory they should as an average be won once every 18 years, and if you are rarely if ever given access to the very top end of the draft, you should rarely if ever have access to those that win those sorts of awards. What's laughable is trying to spruik Carlolton's reward for continual failure as examples of excellent development. Sam Walsh walks out of the Geelong Falcons as the consensus #1 player of draftable age in the country, Carlolton, courtesy of being extremely shite mind you, get first dibs at him and this is supposed to showcase how incredible their development is? Weitering another pick 1. I guess it's progress of sorts after the trifecta of previous #1's in Murphy, Gibbs and Kruezer flopped under Carlolton's tutelage.

Now there's 29 years and counting of failure at developing a premiership calibre side, meanwhile Geelong - who apparently struggle to develop players, turns an aspiring Olympian middle-distance runner and steeplechaser into an All-Australian + Premiership player and one of the most integral to the side's success.

Next we'll be hearing how Harley Reid and Matt Rowell and Horne-Francis's teams are exceptional developers of young talent because these absolute cream of the crop juniors turned into acceptable AFL level footballers.
