And blatantly denying they were throwing shots first when we have evidence to suggest otherwise.

Waiting for the manifesto about how Geelong ruined his life
definite throwing shots vibes... :winkv1:

Dodgy loan contracts

Draft loan documents obtained by The Age reveal the 355-game champion was due to receive $10,000 in interest from the proposed loan in 2013 to Sy Giang Nguyen.
The draft contract between Selwood and Nguyen raises further questions about the relationship between some Cats players and sponsors, and whether such financial relationships should be declared to the club and the AFL.

Dodgy loan contracts

Literally in the article you posted LOL

"The Age does not suggest Selwood knew anything about Nguyen’s allegedly fraudulent scheme or there was any wrongdoing involved in the loan documents, only that it is unusual for an AFL player to be involved in private financial deals with sponsors without the club’s knowledge. There is also no suggestion that Selwood had any knowledge of Nguyen’s allegedly fraudulent scheme or what his loan would be used for."

AFL players especially superstars of the game would give people money all the time. Not saying its right or wrong just that it would happen more than we know.

It still doesn't really pass the pub test - imagine aomeone coming up to you and asking : "hey mate, do you want a quick $10000 in 8 months? Just loan me $100k with no collateral, and its easy money for you".

But $10k to Selwood is hardly breaking the salary cap system - it's not like that would allow Geelong to recruit an extra player.

Probably just needs AFL contracts to be more transparent to the AFL, or better still be listed like the NFL or NBA and it's seen as a fairer system.

This would have the best paragraph for you to quote to refute it
While the document was signed by Nguyen, Selwood’s signature is not on the version of the contract obtained by The Age, and it is unknown if the loan proceeded.
If it did happen it is extremely dodgy however there doesn't seem to be any concrete evidence at this stage that it did

I'm not refuting it, if he's doing dodgy shit he needs to be grilled over it.
The point was they have no idea what the loan was for, if it ever went through or why it relates to anything other than Nguyen being a dodgy campaigner in his own dealings.

Give it a rest.

Loans to sponsors is absolutely open to rorting, and should not be allowed at all. Not sure what you are laughing about, because this sort of bullshit is clearly a method for clubs to get around the cap, with the support of sponsors.

I wonder how many are gonna race here to froth over it.

Yes campaigners, Geelong run this League like they run the Geelong Media Mafia.
Do something about it ;)
This Nguyen fella will take the fall and we'll be on our merry way. He was expendable.

Joel Selwood is sort of shaping up as this Tony Soprano type figure.

There has to be something we can do to stop him?

SHocking would have wiped a lot of the evidence during his time at the AFL

Don't worry though, Varcoe has already insured that there can be no * on Geelong winning the 2013 flag

Now time for some real news. Here's an STPer newsflash!

The Age newspaper corporation, desperate to uncover any shred of scandal involving the Geelong Football Club, went on a full-blown witch hunt. They combed through every piece of paperwork, interviewed anyone with a pulse, and even rummaged through the club's old receipt books. After all that effort, they uncovered... a flimsy rumor about Joel Selwood possibly receiving a measly $10,000. Yep, $10,000. Hardly the heist of the century. But, undeterred by the complete lack of real evidence, The Age decided to run with the story anyway, as if this minor detail was the smoking gun that would bring down this behemoth of football. Talk about reaching for a headline!

It’s far more than a rumour. There were two separate loan agreements specifying Selwood and his company JAMS 14 Pty Ltd as a party to the loans. Unsigned yes, but it is the absolute reddest of flags.

I'm just glad we've got Morris Finance looking after the interests of our players now. Selwood lending $100k unsecured for a measly 15% annualised interest rate is poor form. No way we'd allow our players to get less than 25% these days.

I'm just glad we are leaving it to the experts like Sir Christopher Scott and his team at Morris to handle all further financial matters.

Surely we can extort much more than a measily $10k...that's pleb club level money.
We need to have all of our current and former players on politician level extortion and rorting.

We gonna look into the Nike deal Golden Boy signed and how much of that is being applied to the cap which is a huge conflict of interest with way bigger monetary value exchanged? Or does it only apply when you want to look into it?

I'm sure that'll be "Totally different"

Ever since that Geelong poster created this thread it’s all started unraveling for the mighty Catters. Sad to see a once proud club on its knees like this.

Collingwood don't have the power to manipulate their sponsors like the footballing behemoth down the highway.

In what world is a Nike deal (the biggest sporting brand in the world, who also has deals with many other AFL players not playing for Collingwood) the same as this?

To justify your club's  cheating creative management of the salary cap perhaps?

You were supposed to come back with something other than "it's different because it's my team and I said so!!!". 🤦‍♂️
