As a general rule, Melbourne supporters are some the best on this site IMO.

I don't know what to tell you. Carrying broken/cooked/injured players into finals and missing other pieces is not exclusive to the Melbourne football club.

Kicking badly at goal, delivering poorly to the forward line and having a poor forward line system with an average cast of players has been a common theme with Melbourne. Its inefficiency was predictable, not an outlier.

The only thing you really got right is the bad football part. Melbourne have looked to lack believe in finals at the G. They had their mojo in Adelaide and Perth in 2021. It just didn't last.

Also the term gift wrapped makes no sense. In order to get the high draft picks we had to endure year/s of poor performance. So it's not like we didn't deserve them. Yep. Geelong were cooked when they visited last year. No Dangerfield and a few others, with several others clearly still hampered on return. Terribly out of form and unfit. Then Rohan took Cameron out early on. Melbourne dominated general play but with terrible disposals and no thought process into ball movement whatsoever. Geelong executed a few coast to coast slingshots and that was all she wrote.

It was very obvious their brand of football could be exposed, even by limited teams such as Carlton. Collingwood didn't have a good game in the QF but destroyed them on transition just enough to secure the win.

I'm absolutely ok with only a salary cap. A STRONGLY policed salary cap will ensure equalisation. I can't remember the history behind why the AFL went with both other than the Americans have a draft and hence, so should the AFL.

the NRL tried a draft and it was a disaster. No league is without its faults in terms of how it tries to keep things equal but it is a false equivalency regardless. I just don’t see why team A should be the only team with access to a particular player for the reason that……. You were utterly f**ken shit this year. Well done. Have someone no one can touch.

It’s the dumbest f**king argument in the world

There are a handful of teams that will never need any help because their status won’t change the AFL’s bottom line one way or the other, realistically.

The Eagles: they’re a powerhouse come hell or high water and even as shithouse as they’ve been going they were still drawing almost 40,000 even against North last year and mid-30s against the Suns.
Pies: they are so powerful and well followed they good bad or indifferent their results won’t alter much of the AFL’s coffers.
A team like the Cats who generally sit slightly above the likes of St Kilda and the Dogs and North but always below the big 4/5 no matter how well we do: what do the AFL gain from helping us. It won’t matter how successful we become we won’t match those teams for crowds or membership because we are a provincial team not a metropolitan one, and equally because we are a one team town with a niche following it won’t matter how shit we are, we will always be making a decent contribution to their coffers so we will never ever have to be artificially propped up results wise in order to be making a contribution.

The Swans are probably in the same boat now - they’ve got such a rusted on supporter base but they’ve probably made the biggest dint in Sydney that they are going to, that it won’t make a difference one way or the other if they’re flying or struggling. The AFL doesn’t get a major benefit out of helping them too much

Cats club doctors even notified the AFL prior to the game as they were worried they may have had to forfeit.

It wasn't the reason they lost but it certainly didn't help the situation against the best team that year.
