How many more years are we going to be subjected to this spurious nonsense? Can't wait until we're regularly hosting 11 actual home games each season (like every other team in the comp has the chance to do) and footy's silliest narrative eventually dies its deserved death.

isn't it really only because of the ground reno? I doubt it would be a question otherwise.

I mean, I can see the point that it's not ideal so few oppo fans can get in, but it is what it is, and I'm sure as heck not going regardless so I don't really care. It's just like an interstate away game, support-wise.

Other than that, it's hard to imagine why would Geelong swap out a huge advantage when they don't have to. This seems more of a media talking point than something anyone seems to have requested or suggested

The Bombers are playing well, and if the Cats win this game, it will go a long way in convincing me that the team is starting to regain its mojo. But if we lose this game, my pessimistic outlook for the season remains.
Is a must win... No excuses.

If we are the real bull in the paddock, then we will get the points at home.

I want us to cone out and grab this game by the balls and give it a good twist and squeeze. No mercy

Not the most trust worthy source, but chat gpt says the following.

"As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the last time the Geelong Cats lost to Essendon at Kardinia Park (also known as GMHBA Stadium) was on July 9, 1993. On that day, Essendon defeated Geelong by a margin of 31 points. However, please note that I do not have access to real-time data, and there may have been subsequent matches between the two teams at Kardinia Park since then. For the most up-to-date information, I recommend checking with reliable sources or the official AFL website."
Nope. That game was the Ablett vs Salmon shootout at the G. Attracted 87k. I was there. Hard to believe we lost with the great man kicking 14.7.

The R21 game that year at KP saw the Cats win quite convincingly. Ablett or Brownless kicking one directly over their head from memory. Cats were on a late surge and won their last 5 including against the Eagles in Perth but needed to rely on Collingwood beating Adelaide in Adelaide to make finals. And they fell short. Probably in the best form we ever were in the 90s but had shot ourselves in the foot losing so many games prior.

Essendon last beat Geelong at KP in 1986 by a couple of goals.

As a bit of a added bonus. No Draper still, Phillips & Ridley most likely out. Redman is also a watch.

Round 21, 1993 :D

To be fair, though, we've only played there once since at least the turn of the century I reckon
You almost certainly did not beat us that day. I was there and remember it well. Standing on the rocks adjacent to the Hickey stand trying to get a decent view.

It also means that with a little success the Black and Red army having taken notes from the Black and Yellow army and are beginning to sook about the game being in Geelong... lol

Based on the MCG away games there were more fans at the Essendon one than the Richmond one. Welcome back to the Cattery next year Tiggies.

FWIW - I think it is a good common sense system that Geel get 9 of 11 home games at Geel - given the size of that stadium

There is no chance in hell that Collingwood will play at KP - and rightfully so - they get 90000 going to the MCG - and Geel as a club benefit from playing their - because thats where the finals are held on a proper sized ground

The other one is presently Haw - with the traditional Easter Monday game - and even if one of the clubs are strugggling - they still get 60-65000- a very good crowd

For the next 10-15 years - Geel will play 8-9 home games at KP - with 2-3 real big ones at the MCG with the real big crowds - and i think that is a terrific arrangement - because Geel get to play those extra games at the MCG - the home of the finals - and so many more people can watch those games - so from a common sense point of view it is all good

Won’t be easy. Bombers playing very well. Cameron in will be a big help. Smith, Kolo. Duncan must be just about right to play a full game well and that’d be handy! Could be a cracker of a game.
Bombers have a few injury concerns and that could affect their defence. Hawkins and JC are their bogeys. Our small forwards are in form and gelling well. At our home, if we are serious about where we want to be, this should be a win. I have great respect for where Essendon is heading, but the "when you play them" I hope favours us this week.

and great for the >50% (Melbourne based) Cats supporters

Ah yes, I remember that one. Thanks for clearing that up. Like I said chat gpt isn't a perfect source.

Last time we played them, our first half was one of our best halves for the year (considering the opposition) kicking 14 goals in that half. Hoping for a similar outcome this time, just don't let Weideman kick 5 ffs.

Coming back from WA also helps our cause

Phillips also given a week for his bump yesterday too.

Unsure about the returning from WA though, since Essendon played at Marvel yesterday.

Actually think he's right. I checked the history. Ess played in Geelong in 93 but we won that game. When played them at the MCG same year, they won.
Yeah MCG game was 14 to Ablett Snr & 10 to the big fish Salmon… I was there… barracking for Ablett Snr… he won but cats lost haha!

Dons have a good midfield and nice zest and spunk in the way they play… cats could have a speed problem in this one. don’t think cats will dominate the centre bounces as they did against the kangaroos although they have Rick issues… good test for both! Grigg talked about how cats were good 2nd half against swans so had a focus on being good in the first quarter against the Roos and we were for a half actually, but 2nd half couldn’t sustain it. We need a 4 quarter performance in this one! Hunger matters!

Reckon we win, Danger regardless of form just seems to play bully ball against this mob.

Should be a good test though, Dons are a couple years off truly competing but Scott's done well to get them organised. Far more reliable than years gone by.

Unfortunately for them, we stack up better against them than just about any team in the comp, particularly minus Ridley.

If we can break even around the ball Jez, Tom and co should be too much to handle...which is pretty much the story of our last 3 seasons.

Cats by 5 goals in a competitive game that blows out a bit late.

To the Dons supporters reading this, I don't want to sound like I'm being dismissive. You're looking more dangerous than you have in years...but we're a different animal down in G-Town.

At home our ceiling is a lot higher than Essendon's on the road. We should be winning this with a bit to spare, even though the Bombers have performed well this year and are in good form.

Another top 8 scalp would give us a decent record against those teams: 4-2. Lucky, because we have another 5 of those games to come and need to go 3-2 minimum.
