I actually think the rain suits us just fine. We have some of the best contested players going around, and one of the all-time great forwards in wet conditions.

Cool if they think it helps them, though.

Our game relies heavily on taking marks and possessing the footy - wet weather makes that a lot more difficult.

And a couple of those guys are unlikely be to playing come Saturday night
I've watched that game back a couple of times and some of the positional moves I haven't seen all year.

Our game relies heavily on taking marks and possessing the footy - wet weather makes that a lot more difficult.

If it is wet, I think our advantage in being great in contested ball and effective in preventing transition footy by the opposition (particularly through the middle of the ground) will mean we can hopefully keep the ball in our forward half for more of the game, and push them wider when they do win possession. Much harder to score in the wet from wider positions.

And Richmond's desire to go helter-skelter when they take possession on turnover will be stymied by the ball being slippery and less likely to just sit up for the next tap-on, soccer, or flick forward. They love the ball running on, and any significant rain will have it skidding around and pulling up, more than anything.

Anyway, even if some rain doesn't really suit us, I don't think we're massively compromised. Play near our SF/PF level, and we're every chance. They'll be determined to short-circuit our game, but the resolve of the last two weeks to play our way has looked much better for mine.

In the end, I get the impression that this time we are going to go out there to try and win, rather than looking to stave off defeat. And if that positive mindset stays with our group right through the match, I think we can get it done, whatever the weather.

I still can't work out the O'Connor on Riewoldt match up unless it was a totally planned option they didn't want to stray from - if he got caught out one-on-one once, then you yell at the tv in frustration and hope it doesn't happen again

The fact that even in the last quarter after Lynch had gone off injured we still had O'Connor on Riewoldt, gives a strong indication it wasn't an accident and gotta think they were keeping something up their sleeve

I think our last couple of games have seen us implement a 'chaos ball' type play like Richmond want to play. I dont know if that means anything for Saturday, but I thought it was interesting.

Not sure whether it will make any difference Saturday. But between debuting Jarvis, some bizarre defensive match-ups, and holding back Selwood for yet another week, it certainly doesn't seem that we were doing absolutely everything to endeavour to win that game.

Whether it ends up working out or not, there will certainly be a different look (and hopefully some very different set-ups) for us on Saturday.

Was it the 09 GF? I've tried to watch it. Made it to quarter time and gave up.
It was epic live. But it's a rubbish game when you know the result.

It wasn't a pretty game, no. It was a meatgrinder - but I like those games sometimes. We got three different stories for our trio of Premierships really. A flogging, a meatgrinder, and a close yet free-flowing game till the last quarter. 2007 Port were never really in it at all. 2011 Collingwood had nothing left to give in the last and collapsed accordingly. 2009 is a tough watch but the way we just dug deep in the last and made shit happen despite the match being Ross Lyoned (dour and almost sadistically defensive) makes 2009 for me the pick of the bunch.

I won't give you a thumbs-down though. To each their own!

I kind of agree with him. Was great at the time.
But I went out and bought the DVD a couple of weeks later and except the first 5 minutes and the last quarter it was a bit of a grind.
Only ever watched it once.

Oh, I agree as well. It's easily the least-visually-exciting flag of the trio - you could cut out the bit in between Rooke's tackle and opening goal (actually strike that - Selwood's goal was magic too so cut it after that) and Scarlo's toe-poke and not really miss anything.

But if you like pressure games, and I do just as much as I enjoy a triple figure flogging, it's a special one.

My biggest concern is the Tigers bringing the physical stuff to intimidate a few of our more inexperienced players in the GF
Miers, Menegola, Guthrie, Duncan et al

Personally I’m happy for a few of our guys to wear a few weeks suspension if necessary, hit hard and hit early! Let them know they’ve got a game on their hands

but who are our guys to bring the mongrel?

True. I tottally get it. For me it's like Barber said, at the time not knowing the result it was an amazing pressure cooker of a game where every little moment was so important. And the feeling of relief at the end was out of this world.
Is just hard for me to watch a full replay of it is all.
Have watched the last Chappy goal (and build up) countless times on YouTube though.

He's absolutely right. The Geelong football.club do stand for everything that is good and right in this world 😍

I liked Cooky's quote too - "I don't like being named as the best leader, but I do love being the leader of the best team." :)

The Tomahawk could split packs in the forward line pretty brutally if he wanted. That frame and physique of his would more than ensure players who got hit STAYED hit. An interesting thing will be the 20 minute concussion rule if it becomes a 'shirtfront Saturday'. How many players need to be down and out before a team must conceed/forfeit? If your bench is full of concussion sit-outs and you get yet another one and another one what happens then?
