Twice they referred to the failed merger, would have been nice to comment that both teams filled the MCG on successive nights, so how ill advised was the merger?
While on the topic, why don’t they remind everyone of the respective post-failed-merger achievements? And one voted and yes, the other no.

Look Melbourne may fix us up next week too, who knows...…….. but by god Geelong were absolutely putrid last night. Embarrassed themselves. Were so lucky to have made the 8. It was like everything that needed to land perfectly for them did so in the run to that spot. Geez they were exposed as not being up to it last night.

Benny Hill worthy a lot of that.
Then so be it. Will be far less painful losing to them than the Cats - on the other hand a win against them would have been total bliss.

Sam didn’t have a great night. Can’t believe how many times he got caught with the ball.

When we played them at the start of the season all of the pre game was about how good Geelong will be this season and how great it was to see the ‘trinity’ together.
They even took calls on the latter about it
Was like we weren’t even playing that day

Well their season is over and if I’m not wrong we beat this unstoppable unit twice :)
I posted a screen shot from my TV screen guide when setting up to record the game which was captioned Geelong to play its midfield stars ....blah blah. Not even a mention they were playing hawthorn. This has made my weekend.

I like the rhetoric

Yesterday
“Tigers stamp their authority and easily account for the hawks with a 31 point win”

Today
“Dees hold on to win by 29 points”

This is not meant disrespect, but from my little corner of world it looks like cats have team culture problem.

Danger will do anything to win the game for his team, except bring his teammates into the game. Amazing player, but is not coached to play in sync with the team.

Selwood abit the same. I noticed a few times would rather the ball come back to him for free kick, than umpire pay advantage to his team. And he is not disciplined enough to handle a tag and keep focussed on the job the team wants him to do.

No team ethic with few Geelong players. They think trying to be best on ground is being team focussed, and have the temperament of junior footballers. It stood out in last years finals, 12 months later nothing has changed.

Good call - it’s a big factor with the Tigers, their team game is absolutely massive. Our glory years had plenty of unselfish players also.

Patrick Dangerfield has broken the single game finals record for most clangers in a game with 12

And yet it is constantly Mitchell’s possessions that get questioned.

Btw, did anybody else see chip scab (GAJ) go off quiet aggressively towards Sookwood after the reversed free when Hawkins’ was lining up for goal?
It was one of those Popcorn moments for me. Anyone have the GIf??

Made all the more amusing by the fact that Selwood spoke so politely to Menagola about taking the advantage and hitting the post.

Gee, Jordy Lewis played well last night.

Did some great things.
he did play well. But was disappointed in the first to see him slightly duck his head when running back to take a mark, bracing for impending contact, and drop a crucial mark (though got a dodgy free kick). Very uncharacteristic.

Agree with you - thought he was particularly brilliant during middle part of game when looked like cats might come back and Melbourne might lose their way.
I particularly enjoyed his two smothers when standing the mark on Gablett. Twice within 10 minutes. Just confirms that Ablett is a spent force. No penetration in his kicking and seemed to lose any will to win in the last quarter.

Bruce kept ranting about how well Ablett was playing in the second half. I assume he was watching another flashback game rather than the one happening on the ground.

Perhaps a little gun shy from the massive hit he copped against the Bullies some years ago? Who can blame him. Although I didn’t see that last night, I have never seen Lewis squib a contest. He’s as brave as they come.

He was a real leader for the dees, but don't think he was that good to be honest. The standard of the game got ovrrshovershadowed by the story of melbourne playing in a final. It was not a high standard game at all. The standard Lewis played at was a case of King of the shit, when it'd be closer to the shit of kings.

Bad as Geelong was, everyone seems to forget that they outscored Melbourne after the first quarter. Says something about Melbourne's performance ....
