The logical conclusion...

Holy bound for glory, Batman!

Gil and Clarko planning the North move to Tassie. With Clarko at the helm and in support it could be the 3-year plan! Clarko does the hard yards for 3 years building the team, when they make the move to Tassie he gets draft compensation for 3 years.

Norf won't move and have said so unequivocally for many years (including last year when Jeff was playing chicken with our club's identity). There's been multiple fundraisers over the past decade or so to pay down the debts there and financially secure the team to remain in Melbourne after the multiple flirtations to shift elsewhere were fairly fruitless.

The apply for a priority pick rule is just another example of the amateur competition the AFL is, absolutely no sporting merit or transparent logic behind it, just the AFL doing things as they please at their discretion.

As I said in our game preview thread also - applying for one in July should automatically disqualify your application for that season because it basically signals your intent to continue losing.

AFL needs to figure out what is important to them. If that is all 18 teams being competitive year on year, then they need to figure out how to reward that, rather than the opposite.

It would be amazing if the scrapped the academies and free agent compo ao the draft wasn’t so diluted. It might actually function like it is supposed to…

Means no father son too then.

The only academy that sh*TS me is Sydney and lions as they have both long father-son history and academies. You shouldn't have both.

gC, Freo, Adelaide clubs should keep their academie until they have father-son coming through like other clubs .

They could overhaul the academy system so all clubs get equal access to the kids through the draft, stop compensating clubs unevenly for failing to keep their own players, and just keep father-son as it is.

That seems totally doable to me

I like the romance of father/son.

As for the rest, compo for lost FAs, priority picks for being shit etc. they should all go.

As for North, IF it's deemed they 'deserve' help, the best they get is access to one undrafted (must have nominated previously) player from any state league i.e an extra MSD pick but they get the access after the season's finished.

does Sally Capp have her finger in the pie to change the GF Parade route? I have no issue with them wanting to change it if that's the best way to draw a crowd, given that (a) we won't have the office workers lining the CBD streets any more (and the parade wouldn't be able to fit due to the bike lanes) and (b) it's a public holiday anyway. But having a "parade" on the Yarra River seems an odd choice.

Honestly think it is the league being cautious with covid and wanting to keep the players as far away from a mass crowd leading into a GF.

very good point. :thumbsu: then do we need the parade at all?
It’s tradition.

Like Saturday afternoon grand final

The kids love the parade, so do many adults.
I’m sure some players do too.
It’s all part of the grand final atmosphere

I was only thinking the other day about how things have changed in the AFL world. Some for the good, some bad.

Scrap F/S
Scrap Compo
Scrap A Academies

Let a draft run how it should be run.

I agree.

The draft is suppose to be used for equalisation.

How can we have equal opportunity for all, when the draft has different rules for different individuals.

Especially when the rules you have to follow change depending on the below criteria.

Who are your parents?
Where were your parents born?
Where were you born?
Where did you live?
Where do you now live?

Brett Ratten threaten St Kilda players with "last chance"... while doing nothing.

Reminds me of...

Freo and Adelaide have the same chance of father son as any Melbourne club - they also don't have an academy like NSW and QLD clubs

Yeah but Freo and Adelaide are "younger" clubs and won't have nearly as many father sons coming through. And although lower prob, older clubs get the grandfather-father-son too (a la silvagni and Kennedy).

So older clubs, including Hawks, have real benefit from father son. If you don't get this benefit cos U r new, absolute academia should be in play. Otherwise get rid of it all.

Sydney, Brisbane get full benefit of father sons through their long predecessor histories so really shouldn't get the double dip of the acadamies. Those mofos are now taking father-sons from other clubs (eg Blakey)!

SA and WA clubs also have access to father sons from SANFL and WAFL

Sydney getting Blakey is the biggest draft rort of all time
