Interesting, I was just thinking back to the footrace between Jetta and Rioli today and re-watched a clip of it.

The biomechanical differences in their running styles are subtle but so clear. If you watch any of the elite runners (Bolt, etc), their torso position and footplant are two things very similar across the board. Whilst accelerating, their centre of gravity should be a little forward, but then it should rise up and maintain complete straightness, especially whilst at top speed. As for their foot plant, the foot should land directly underneath the body, not in front, not behind. In that chase, Jetta was much more upright and thus his horizontal velocity was optimal. Rioli's torso swivelled with every footstep when he ran and his torso bent over slightly as he tried to use every millimetre to catch him. I daresay, (and I know the club has tried to change his running style, etc), if he kept his body more upright when running at such speed, he could improve on his speed and could have caught Jetta. Not necessarily to do with his hamstrings; I would think that has much more to do with him over-striding and his scar-tissue now.

I'm fascinated in this sort of stuff in itself. But as a further comment, it is moments like that give teams that... belief? Like when Hartlett took that bump in Port's F50, collected the ball and passed it to a teammate to run on for a goal in the elimination final v Richmond. Hinkley brought it up as a moment when he knew. It was only in the first quarter. Another example, Rioli in 08 on the wing v 3 cats.

That was a total misrepresentation of cyrils game strengths and was one of those mild racist things

Wonder if jetta will have to try to keep up with Bradley ( or isaac of course ;) )

How was that either of those?

Edit:
If in reference to my post, I'm still wondering.
If in reference to the actual hype and footrace, I understand how you could see that. However, they are both extremely quick.

The Sydney hype is going to be through the roof after tonight. Sydney vs someotherteamforgottheirname.

Great for us to continue under the radar.

Seriously if the Hawks had as many w***er players, supporters, staff and board members as some of these "other clubs" that are the flavour of the month I wouldn't even be here.

I couldn't be bothered if my club was just like the rest.

Anyhow thankfully rampant egotism that leads to delusional thinking has not ever been the go at HFC.

Was supposedly our two speedster runners but rioli isnt among our clubs best runners, just good reflexively

They compared them because they were "exciting aboriginals" but the contest wasnt in cyrils area of strength, and people are too eager to pot him anyway

Mind you the hype is hype, yesterday some guy was on the radio waxing on about cyrils tackle in 2008 and how it led to a hawks goal. It didnt, it led to a free kickk, a back pass and a rushed behind

Anyway I was referring to the hype not your post, no offence meant
