I didn't seriously just hear Lloydy say on the Sunday footy show that he saw a top 4 side in the Bombers at Etihad yest did I? After beating the Lions?

Early in 2011, can't remember exactly which round, Matthew Lloyd stated that the only teams capable of taking it up to Collingwood in the premiership race were Hawthorn and Essendon. Not only did he put Essendon in the same bracket as C'wood and H'thorn, he put them above Geelong.

Now I get he was one of the best full forwards of the last 20 years, an out-and-out gun really....but seriously, how can this bloke collect a paycheck for being an expert and still sleep at night? Additionally, it's a pretty sad comment on the shit the footy public gobbles up in the name of 'expert opinion'. Did someone say Dermie?

Essendon’s expertise is off-ball tackle techniques designed to injure more talented opponents. Trademark gutter tactics, but effective. Talent-wise they're 9th-10th'ish.

Speaking of the West Coast Eagles.... Could not help but have a wry smile on my face when Andrew Walker was paid a free kick against him yesterday for exactly what would have put us through to the preliminary final.

The cheapest way into this year's decider will be a standing room ticket costing $176.50, up from $150 last season. The cheapest 'bronze' level of seats will set a fan back $200, while the most expensive 'platinum' level tickets will be worth $390, up from $295 in 2011.

Pretty sure the only reason they say guaranteed access instead of guaranteed ticket is that you still have to register for the ticket and it is not automatically allocated. .. ie. you are guaranteed a ticket if Carlton make it, as long as you register for a ticket following the appropriate procedure. ..

Speaking of Richmond, there is a very good article in the Age comparing the Tigers now to us in 2008 and suggesting they follow our formula.

I particarly agree with this:

The article also points out something I have been saying for some time. It takes 5-7 years to build from bottom to top. Another phrase that I have uttered many times here is we are bang on target, not early nor late.

I really do find it fascinating, and I am not letting my hatred for the Scum override my judgement, but seriously, aside from us, who have they beat?

NM, PA, GC, Brisbane? Hardly world beating stuff. Yes they beat us, but as good as they were, we were even worse. Clearly the last 3 weeks we have been well off so it puts their win against us in perspective a bit.

They did lose to the Pies who had about 6 or so quality players missing. If you are going to be a genuine challenger, I believe you need to be able to show good form on the road as well.

Mind you, I would not be surprised if they beat the Eagles this week, the Eagles have so many players missing and are ripe for the picking. If anything, if they are seriously challengers, they should win this.

But on that look at the ladder, the top 5 or 6 teams have had like 1 good game each against a quality oponent and the rest against crap sides for the most. Its no wonder the bottom sides have bugger all wins while the top 6 are 5-1

Amazing how Essendons 67 point win against a rabble of a team qualifies them for a premiership contender while Carltons 67 point winning shows worrying signs.

Form against bottom sides should not be considered when evaluating a teams propects in the finals.

People have such short memories. This time last year the press were all over Wonderboy's transformation of the bombers from also rans into killing machines. All fell in a massive heap mid season after 6 or 7 straight losses sent them tumbling back down the ladder to a point where they looked as though they would not even make the 8, and in fact didnt, no-one wanted 8th spot so they fell into it. They have a very ordinary list, a sub standard midfield with little to no depth there and I fully expect them to finish 10th or so this year.
