Oldest list 2000 was Sydney at 24.1
The only lists younger than that now are Essendon west coast richmond north
North is 23.8 which would be 5th oldest in 2000. Above or equal in 2000? Sydney north Essendon carlton adelaide

Quite a trend in those graphs. I reckon players stay on list longer, but apparently the talent is ‘diluted’

The better players in particular are able to get more years out of their bodies due to better sports science and player management. Things like being advised to start dropping their playing weight after 30, with no expectations to complete every training session or play every game. Clubs definitely take a squad approach to their seasons now whereas in the past it was largely just put out the best 22 every week. Even interchanges weren't used like they are now. It was almost like some bench players were used like subs, barely seeing any minutes.

The horse has bolted ... ultimately he failed miserably in 3 of 5 GFs.
Failed miserably in 4 out of 5 grand finals. And was extremely lucky in 1 of them. The weather, few of our guys injured, buddy missing went in their favour. As did them getting a longer break despite us finishing top. 2 of their best players they poached from us with Cola even before Buddy (McGlynn didn't play though but was a gun all year for them) they got 3 fluke goals those players had never kicked before or never since.

Tactically Horse is terrible when coaches have time to dismantle them, which later in the year sides get their plans together.

I think it’s ridiculous to say Longmire was not a good coach.

We all know the advantages afforded to Sydney, but to suggest those advantages are a walk up into grand finals is disingenuous or naive. Making 5 grand finals over 14 years with multiple playing lists and game styles should be respected.

Won’t go down as a great coach because they couldn’t get the job done in grand finals and actually got embarrassed in a few of them - but to say he was not even a good coach is nonsense, he clearly was. We shouldn’t downplay the difficulties and challenges of what is the AFL and why winning the premiership is so rewarding because we don’t like a club.
He was a good coach, however I reckon Brad Scott who currently would be rated Mediocre due to results in poor teams. Would have won 3 flags at the Swans.

If they flounder this year and need to start considering a hard rebuild that’s going to get really ugly as Tassie enter the comp.

I feel like the pies always have a steady stream of people requesting trades there though. They’re not like an Melbourne/StKilda/North that really struggle to attract any sort of talent when they’re good let alone poor. Over the last 25 years they’ve rarely been down for more than a year or 2

Sure, but who’s going to request a trade there if they are in free-fall when Tassie are about to suck up all the draft picks for 3+ years….only the players who simply want another chance, because no manager worth a pinch of shit would be telling their player to go to the oldest list in the comp on a downward trend when a new franchise is starting up.

They are walking the tightrope heading into 2025, and the fall will be epic if they get a few injuries like last year.

Yeah idk, their rebuild 2019-2023 was sneaky and quick, although with some pot luck with a few things here and there. Watched the 2019 prelim on fox last night and tbh gotta give them credit for flipping most of the list around that quickly. The team was unrecognisable.

Hope you’re right though, id love nothing more than for them to suffer for a decade.

Melbourne attracted May and Lever.

McRae has said he doesn't want to have the job long term and they're making list management decisions in line with this

It’s more than just about stopping Thomas. It’s about protecting as many women as possible.

We’ve seen that people will continue to idolise sport stars, famous people etc. despite them being abusers and/or rapists.

The only thing that seems to have any effect is deplatforming these people and showing that there are real consequences for such behaviour especially when the judicial system can be found lacking.
Doesn't any woman that chooses to be with him from now on have to take some responsibility for their actions too. We could employ Dodoro as recruitment manager now. Who would be the silly one?

To an extent. You poke the bear, you're gonna get bit. But we aren't bears, we're people.

So while you could rightly call any woman who gets herself in a situation with him naive/moronic/foolish/etc, that doesn't excuse any future bad act on his part. It's not like he's got a free license to throw haymakers just because a woman was stupid enough to stand in front of him.
