Surely Ratten is being spoken tooAlso see we are losing Robert Harvey back to the saints.
Wonder who our midfield coach will be now
Surely Ratten is being spoken too
I donāt see why. Pretty standard in every other industry for a new job to come with a 6 month probation period.āI wasn't given thatā: Former Cat calls out Geelong after āsurpriseā delisting
āIām still a kid developing, Iām nowhere near a fully finished product.āwww.sen.com.au
I agree with this, the rules around mid season draftee contract lengths should definitely change. Asking a 19 - 21 year old to scrap their plans and uproot their life for half a season on a piss poor wage is insane. It's easy to say "well this is what they agreed to" but a kid chasing their dream will agree to a lot of things, that doesn't make it right to exploit it.

A lot of industries are gig and contract work too. I donāt see an issue with it. Footballers have it alrightI don't think playing AFL football is completely comparable to standard employment in this situation.
In most situations when you are employed to do a job you start in that position and are given the full 6 months to prove your worth in that position. You don't start in the mailroom fighting for a chance amongst other employees in the mailroom to get one of the only say 4 office spots available, which by the way are currently filled by other employees that have been entrenched in their job for years. Then when you are finally in the office your not at risk of dropping back down to the mailroom next week because you're not meeting a set quota.
Probably not the best of analogies but I think you get the idea. You get continuality in one position in employment, you don't get that in AFL just an opportunity where the odds can be stacked against you, especially in a strong team such as Geelong.
I like Ross Lyon too, I think he'll get the best out of the list they've got. The problem is that the list they've got might not be good enough, and I don't think Ross is the type of coach you want in charge for a rebuild.I feel like I'm in the minority but I like Ross Lyon.
I like his approach to footy and his candidness.
The Saints need him and 4 years seems fair considering the task ahead.
I would love to see them win one too.
I would love to know how Lyon described/rated the Saintās list and how he plans to move forward. The way I see it they will be spinning their wheels in 10th and 14th for the foreseeable future without some serious changes. They nearly need a full rebuild. Again.Still can't believe that St Kilda have gone with Lyon again. That club deserves every piece of misery and heartbreak that will come to it. #rabble
I see Gresham's name mentioned a lot. Is there any reason to think he'd be interested in joining Hawks or is it just that he's a free agent next year?Let's just all hope that Gresham hates playing under Lyon.
He's just the best FA available.I see Gresham's name mentioned a lot. Is there any reason to think he'd be interested in joining Hawks or is it just that he's a free agent next year?

Is Ross just Rodney Eade with better PR?
I like Lyon, but not playing Ball at all in the last quarter of the 2009 Grand Final when he was borderline BOG up until that point was certainly his fault. Imagine being overrun in the last quarter of a game and "forgetting" that the guy who was tackling like a mad man and winning frees was on the bench.Lyon isn't a likeable guy and his game plan was never entertaining, but the criticism of his record is over the top. He didn't fail to win premierships due to problems with his coaching. That St Kilda side of 2009-2010 is about the unluckiest i've seen. Hawkins kicked a point that was called a goal in 2009 and the ball bounced at right angles for Milne in 2010. None of that was Lyon's fault. Even in 2013 his players kicked like drunks in the first quarter and they could never claw back into the game. I don't think any of his grand final losses were due to coaching issues.
Whether the game has passed him by is a different question. I suspect it might have and that hard arse approach doesn't seem to work with this generation, but his coaching record is very good.
Cost him a flag, and his "Unfinished Business" legacyI like Lyon, but not playing Ball at all in the last quarter of the 2009 Grand Final when he was borderline BOG up until that point was certainly his fault.
