Wasn't it an odd decision by Melbourne to draft Grundy?

They had the best ruckman of his generation and then decided to draft the second best ruckman of his generation who ends up playing in the VFL.

Any other team except for the Dees Grundy is number 1 ruck yet he ended up at the Dees. Very unusual list management.

Grundy pretty much got kicked out of Collingwood and teams were not lining up to take him.

It was a small miracle Collingwood moved him at all with the deal he is on.

Bit harsh to blame Grundy. He has been moved on twice in two years now and handled himself better than most with it.

It was like two people who were totally incompatible had a year long relationship even though their friends told them repeatedly they weren't right for each other

Honestly he would have been a great pick up for the Hawks, a ruckman who can average 30 hitouts, 20+ touches and 5 clearances a game is a real asset for any side.

Sydney looked quite strong in that last quarter. They were able to turn up the pressure and Melbourne cracked. There are always one or two teams that put complete efforts together to start the season and then hit a wall, though. We'll see how they are going at round six. They would be happy with that effort to start, though.

It has never remotely interested me, either reading someone else's speculation, or doing my own.

If I ever bother reading one, all I think "Someone I don't know thinks something very unlikely will happen, and it almost definitely won't"

I'm not interested in reading them, I'm not interested in looking back at the end of the year to compare how they went...

I used to get my little chubby on when I would read someone tip us to fly high, and get my teeth gnashing when they said we would go down, until a little part of me gradually realised i was just being a rat in a maze.

It's just more of the ever-increasing white noise, designed purely to condition the hoi-polloi to complete our role as credulous consumers, generating hype and clicks for the machine. It's not insight, it's not analysis...it's nothing. Even less than nothing, possibly.

This is an absolutely abysmal spectacle for the opening game of the season. Really don't know what the AFL are thinking with this "opening round" business.

I barely watch football when Hawthorn isn't playing, but managed to remember that it was the first game of the season last night. Switched on and got belted around the head by Brian Taylor and Jamie Brayshaw and Matthew Richardson. Three horrible commentators. The game was glorified kick to kick with no excitement.

Lasted 10 minutes and went and put the cricket on.
