Maybe the media will be questioning why the premiers gave up a 25 point lead with about 7 minutes to go instead of trying to blame an umpire. Did they defensive too early. And even though it may have only gained the Pies about 1-2 seconds extra, (if the free hadn't been called)the reason a player would do that is to get his team a bit more time to set up defensively
It's a Friday night game so with so many games to go it'll quickly fade to the background .
Ours was a Sunday game on a day when most expected 3 fizzers .
Already been described as 'brave' this morning to hang on.

They should get the same analysis as us but they won't.

I find it interesting that there is a specific rule for the boundary one in the rule book, Rule 18.10.2 (c), but there is not a specific rule for handing the ball back direct to field umpire.

Umpire didn’t pay the free for delay of game, he said you have to hand it back direct to me. I’d just like to see where that ‘rule’ is written.
There was a memo towards the end of the 2023 season, issued to al clubs.

"Players are reminded that if they are in possession of the ball and the Umpire calls for a ball up to either leave the ball on the ground, or give the ball directly to the Umpire (as opposed to another Player)"

There is also a rule against the simple handing of the ball to another player. (but that is more in line with incorrect disposal):

18.13 OTHERA field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player who:(a) Throws the football;(b) hands the football to another Player;(c) whilst in possession of the football, does not bounce or touch the football onthe ground at least once every 15 metres, irrespective of whether such Player isrunning in a straight line or otherwise. For the purposes of this Law, a Player shallbe deemed to be in possession of the football during the period when the Playerkicks or handballs the football to themself and regains possession without thefootball touching the ground;(d) engages in Time Wasting;(e) makes unreasonable or unnecessary contact with an injured opposition Player;(f) intentionally lifts a Player from the same Team to interfere with play;(g) engages in misconduct;(h) uses abusive, insulting, threatening or obscene language; or(i) uses an obscene gesture.

Perhaps this is what the umpires think is happening? :)

I'm not sure who passed the ball to Daicos but after watching the Norf/Scum free above, I think in both instances the player's with the ball, heard the whistle, thought there was a free for their team mate and passed the ball to them.

I just hope that the AFL enforce umpires calling it, every single time.

It's the rules but I think the majority of watchers would say it's a stupid rule to be so rigid.

Oh, come on mate! This is the AFL!

I should be thrilled to death that the Cats are getting pumped, but I tipped them and I’m also doing my sister in laws tips too so my reputation is on the line
You wouldn't like this to be a sound bite in the future.

I tipped Cats too but I don't care if they lose. Nearly everyone in my tipping comps (except the cellar dwellers) tipped them as well so it won't matter.

I'm leading my tips and tipped gws.

Going to water under pressure are the Giants. Not a good sign for a supposed contender. Should have put the game to bed when they had a chance ( Hogan's miss the turning point) and now will struggle to keep in touch. Be funny if Cats lose it from here with all the momentum they have.

Both the giants and suns can win as many games as they want, but, until they come to Victoria and beat top 6 sides they are nothing but a waste of space!! Hawthorn will win another premiership before those two plastic franchises.
