Two stats I'd love somebody to dig up:

1. Where do we rank for total team changes for the year - dropped, managed, injured, suspended. We have made very few changes.
2. Where do we rank for teams having to activate their injury sub against us in the first half. Feel like it has happened a lot.

Odd things that I think about sometimes.

We've made the least changes of any team

Since the bye we really should have made more changes, spent a bit of time mixing up our best 22, then in these last few weeks consolidate the group right before finals.

Feels a bit too little, too late now.

It's probably a bit hard to do that with no vfl. The guys who haven't been playing, havent played a proper match in over a month.

The available depth that's ready to go is really only Jetta, Vandenberg, Weideman, Melksham, Baker and to a lesser extent Jones (just coming back from injury. Nothing in that lot screams "wooooo, good change"

Guys like Sparrow, Bedford, Chandler and bowey definitely fit the profile, but where do they come in? Bedford replace Spargo or Pickett? Probably not. (That said I'd love to see him play on a wing in time) Chandler probably fits the same. Sparrow is already the exact problem we have 5 players in the team with the exact same skillset. Bowey gets his chance this week, but hopefully gets a bit of time to warm into it.

The drop off has come from guys in our team that have no hope of being dropped.

Salem is getting more attention and is back to 2020 Salem. Langdon seems to have forgotten how to play at all. Petracca has a knee injury that he's playing through, Oliver has obviously put the C on himself in supercoach and our key defenders are being dragged away from opposition entries.

I'm not saying I disagree with you that we should have used this time to do that, or rest players a bit etc, but there isn't a whole heap of options there, in my opinion.

I think people emphasise VFL form a little too much, especially if it's a case of one or two changes a week over the course of a month which has the added benefit of giving our main guys a rest. I also recall the club saying that they were getting the casey guys to play pretty full on match sims to get the match fitness right. Furthermore, sometimes players perform better in the seniors than they do in the VFL simply because they gel better with the main group or they feed off the added pressure.

It doesn't always need to be a case of a senior player in shit form and a VFL player being in good form 1-1 swap. In fact, I would wager that is seldom how changes are made.

True, but I'd argue playing a few games>not playing at all.

Yeah but the circumstances have changed this year. We don't get to blood guys in the VFL as much so we need to find other ways to get them to prove themselves. I don't think there is much to be gained in complacency at selection.

We should be in Rankines ear right now telling him how poorly GC has treated him and how great he'd slip into our forward half. He's the type of talent we can target now..
Except GC haven't treated him poorly. He got dropped because he's been piss poor all year, should've been dropped weeks ago, they've been carrying him for ages.

Yeah your strategy is gonna work miles better than mine knackers 👍

Lloyd and Ross think if we need to throw Trac forward way more than we do

I do agree, only issue is the bloke shits himself infront of goal.
But him 1 out in the square is a nightmare match up for anyone. He should be able to kick 4 goals reasonably regularly as a full time forward. Leave Clarry and Viney to carry the inside midfield role

He needs space to operate in like you said. Just throwing him forward and expecting it to work with our current style of play won't change a thing.

Yup he can't just be standing next to Brown in the pocket, he needs to drift forward while Tmac and Brown take their opponents out of the way so Trac gets a mismatch. Any midfielder is gonna have brown dacks standing next to him in the goalsquare.

We honestly need to **** Brown off from full forward, hes bloody useless out of the goal square, get him leading up on the wing and using his strengths, kicking inside 50.

Riewoldt role, if they don't wanna put a good player on him he should be able to rack up 10 marks a game
