Don't normally post on other team's boards, but holy...he sounded like a complete lunatic. Build a pub in Hawthorn and paint it brown and gold...yeah on field success, rather than financial success...he's seen the Melbourne Victory win four premierships (!!)...the Hawks have 30-40,000 members (!!!!!!). Wow.

The guy sounds like a d!ck. So, one flag in 20 years? Who is he going to point the finger at? Can't possibly be the current administration can it? Seems to be no point at all making these comments as a basis for him contesting the Presidency.

All he can do from here is de-stabilise the club.

"Dicker and Kennett have done a good job but the fact is we have 1 premiership in 20 years and it's not good enough" I ahve had success with Balwyn Footy club Sorrento Footy Club and Melbourne Victory

"We have to many accountants and financial people currently on the board and not enough emphasis on football"


I dont think Geoff stands a chance after that 7 minute radio stint.

Funny he should mention Balwyn - the team with one of the biggest budgets in the EFL - that has only managed one Div 1 flag (ironically in 2008) in 40 years.

Sorrento, another club that has had huge money pumped into it, has won 4 flags in the last 20 years.

Not sure if the Conti has been painted red and white either....

This silly old fart needs to be told that there is NO SUPPORT.

And if he wants to do the right thing by the club (and save us a truck load of money) then the best thing he can do is quietly bugger off and head down to Balwyn or Sorrento and stay there.
 
He's half way between Kevin Sheedy and John Elliott. All bluster and ridiculous claims that he either backs away from when challenged or changes the subject.

He doesn't know how many members we have.
He doesn't know the qualifications of the board members. Only two have accounting qualifications as far as I am aware.
He doesn't know what he would do to bring premierships other than suggesting that building community spirit ala Port Melbourne might work and, of course, buying a pub and painting it brown & gold and calling it the happy hawk:eek:

Oh, and Geoff's qualifications? He's an economist. Does that make him more qualified than an accountant?

He has every right to run and has obviously had success in making himself rich, but, really, if you want people to vote for you you've gotta do better than that rambling, shambolic performance.

I did not hear thsi, but after just reading this, Im astounded, how this so called "well respected" man in the business world, how little he knows about our club.

I think Jeff Kennett might renig on his 2 term, 6 year president thing and come back for another 3years, before this complete clown gets the gig. This man would give Mr Ian Dicker and Mr Jeff Kennett heart attacks, if this was to happen.

Surely, Surely, Surely, the power brokers at the club, put a stop to this?? The club has worked way to hard to have some cowboy come in now and pi.. it all down the drain.

Its a piece of paper, means sh.t!! Hey I have a piece of paper as well, but it does not make me qualified to run a football club.

The audio just strengthens the opinion that this guy is a fruit loop. A sense of community breeds success? Geez Geoff, what a load of absolute trollop. Does this guy not realise that we live in the 21st century? Port Melbourne did not win the VFL Premiership because they have a good sense of community. They won because they have a bloody good, disciplined team that play for each other and for their coach.

I don't purport to be the most dyed-in-the-wool supporter, but I imagine those who have been members for over 30 years would be seething listening to this man. He needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Hawthorn's membership base no longer resides in Hawthorn or the other leafy suburbs of Melbourne's inner East. We are a global nation Geoff.

Well the study of Economics is considered more highly than accounting - like can you get a Nobel Prize for accounting. :rolleyes:

But then Economics is the only field in which two people can share a Nobel Prize for saying opposing things! :D

He was saying that we have only won 1 flag in 20 years, but he forgot to mention that in that 20 years we almost merged with Melbourne and scrape our selves of the gutter to become one of the Power house clubs in the AFL today...:thumbsu:

Seriously if all he cares about is on field performance then how the hell can he help? unless he wants to be a Coach/President....:rolleyes:

I really wish he would stop making this comment, he loses me even more each time. He doesn't seem to realise if it wasn't for Dicker, we wouldn't even have a club, let alone that 1 premiership he bemoans.

I'd also like to remind him, he and Trevor Coote ushered in the 20 year period, all Dicker is guilty of is giving us our club back.
 
Of course its his right to stand for president but I urge everyone to vote against this man, he sent us down the swannie the last time now he wants to jump aboard just as success beckons.
If he is so well off ( which I don't doubt) why didn't he do " A Dicker" and save the club instead of running off and hiding under a stone.

I remember 95/96 very well and we must NEVER go back to those days.
