Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Free Agency Period

The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Opens: Friday October 4 at 9.00am
Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period

Trade Period Opens: Monday October 7 at 9.00am
Trade Period Closes: Wednesday October 16 at 7.30pm

Can someone update me on the Krueger situation? I don't rate him and he is about to get delisted by the Pies, but I have seen mentions of how he left here wasn't well received at the club... what happened?

I just felt him leaving and watching him since that he thinks he is an absolute star when he is an absolute battler.. so he has a massively misplaced ego.
But since there is 2 parts of F**K all to talk about someone can fill me in on that if they like

He sulked because he couldnt get a game and left.

I suspect that we're not far off it, I think as the wage goes up so will the culture change, I see list sizes decreasing and the barrier between the AFL and 2nd tier comps being more permeable, players will do what ever they can to stay in the game. That being said, no trade clauses are a thing in the NBA, though I don't think that there are many players who have them.
The only way i see it happening any time soon is if it is limited to state and even then only to the top few paid at each club.

First time the AFL/Club try and trade a player interstate that has kids and needs that stops him from going interstate is when it gets reamed by the AFLPA in a way it loses all power over players.

Kind of surprised we aren’t kicking the tyres on Sam Day or Membury or Jake Ricardi or Krueger or Tomlinson or Taberner.

We literally have absolutely nothing in regards key postion depth. Like nothing. If Neale gets injured for a full season then that’s one thing, but if he pulls a hammy and we lose a game as we are having to restructure then that’s just plain bad planning. Same at the other end of the field but at least have SDK, COS, Kolo, Blitz and Henry.

Sam Day to Brisbane all but confirmed - will be made official in coming days

Membrey likely to stay at St Kilda

Ricardi wouldn't move to play VFL - he's contracted until 2026, so a move where he'd be a best 22 player could be of interest, but to be a backup doesn't necessarily change his current situation

Taberner is an easy pass - he's been subbed off 8 times in the past 4 seasons, struggled with continuity over recent seasons due to injury which has limited him to 9 senior games since 2023. Even as a back up option, you want to know they can get on the park

Tomlinson has never been linked to us

As for Kreuger, there's been recent suggestions that a few bridges were burnt when he moved to Collingwood. So while there was some early trade speculation that he may find his way back to us, it sounds like we've put a stop to that

You have to be not injured to play as a forward!!!
Kreuger has done well to stay on a list when he has only managed 15 senior games since being drafted in 2018.

That stat is getting into Josh Cowan territory.

By the end of the next CBA, the average wage of a player off their base contract will be approaching $1 million a year, a CBA ago that was the top few guys.

Just to put Richmond's list in perspective.

After bids they'll probably have something like:

1, 7, 12, 13, 21, 23, 27 and 28

I'd personally take

Holmes over pick 1.
SDK over pick 7.
Dempsey easily over pick 12.
Humphries over pick 13.
O'Sullivan easily over pick 21.
Clark easily over pick 23.
Neale over pick 27.
Conway over pick 28.

That's just our under 24s. Literally the most valuable under 24 player on Richmond's list would either be an injury plagued Gibcus, an ordinary looking Tom Brown or a decent looking rookie Seth Campbell.

I haven't included O Henry, Bruhn or Bailey Smith who are all way more valuable than anyone Richmond currently has.

It just shows that they could smash this draft and they'd still likely have clearly worse kids than we do. And we haven't had to go to absolute shit to achieve it.

Be interesting to do that comparison after the draft

We have enough players with on field flexibility to have a working structure,

Between Danger, J.Henry and Blicavs we'd make something work

That is true but with COL getting worse and worse i still do not see the AFLPA allowing it for anyone but maybe the highest paid players and even that would be a small chance of happening.

Due to AUS actually having halfway decent laws protecting its employees and the power the AFLPA have i just don't see it.

Wonder if its the same staff who did the medical on Stevie J and said "No thanks" - or were they sent to Siberia?
Maybe the same place chappy got his cows blood or what ever blood he got for his hammies.

He sulked because he couldnt get a game and left.
IIRC we basically gave him away for nothing
His body must be shot because he'd be required at Collingwood thought they rated him

It take him back as insurance for free but he probably wants game time
