Liked him at the champs…. Nice hands on the lead. Good set shot , very mobile. Smooth . Not sure on his contested marking but he looked like he had an adequate leap. In that sense he reminds me a little of a Lukocious type. Is he a KPP at AFL level? The last write up on him by CT he mentioned he might not make it to the 20’s …. but yes I could see us like his movement if he had a good 2k at combine testing.
Its probably another example of …someone will slip thru...
Its like Tambling and Varcoe . I really wonder if Tambling had gone to a better club if he would have been huge.

I’m not sure he’ll unfortunately slip to our first pick. In fact I’m sure he won’t. But he would be imo worth consideration to trade back into the draft to have a crack at. Shown at VFL level he can be effective already. Moves well and importantly has a lovely set shot kicking style.
I have heard from a source at the club (involved with list management) that we have generally taken a different approach to players in their first few seasons.
We tend to groom them in with specific roles and build them up, where as other clubs have a tendency to throw them in the deep end a little more.
The latter can make stats and numbers look more inflated early on, but it is more the long game compared to the short game.

He may very well develop into the inside contested midfielder but I haven’t seen a lot of it.
He’s very good on the outside, he’s actually shown he can do run with roles as well, he completely shut down Cripps in the game where Cripps was fined for pulling his hair.
We never really trialled him as the inside guy but when you’ve got peak Libba, Dunkley, Bont and Macrae who are all very good but reasonably slow it made no sense to put our quickest mid in that spot.
In short. I dunno.
I've often thought that exact comparison. Richmond were such a basket case they probably would have ruined Buddy as well.

As for GWS, the level of stupidity and spiteful insensitivity to anyone's pain seems almost incomprehensible were it not so routine for these kind of end-of-year how-stupid-can-we-be events. It's their mates laughing at them who incense me as much as the perpetrators. Mindless privileged idiots, as you say.
Everyone's jerking themselves raw about Richmond's "once in a lifetime haul of picks"....but really, they're just making up for their previous four drafts.
2020 they actively traded out of - thanks for Holmes, guys!
2021 they admittedly had some bad luck (Gibcus) but it's very much a mixed bag so far, considering they had 5 Top 30 picks.
2022 they traded 3 Top 30 picks as part of the Taranto/Hopper deals
2023 they traded out their top pick for Hopper - who can barely get on the park for them - and wasted other picks on spuds like Koschitzke.
Even with 8 Top 30 picks or whatever it is, they're still almost playing catch up.

How is everyone so sure it's a good draft? 2024?
1. In a weak draft, prospects look like good prospects every second week, beating poor players.
2. In an average draft the best stand out and are easy to find.
3. In a strong deep draft with many good prospects the best don't stand out. Being good one week and beaten by a good opponent next week.
In fact, 1 and 3 look a bit similar.

Risk reward is higher too because, while it's good to have 8 early picks hit their peak output together, in the run up they'll have 8 picks hitting peak development coaching resources drain together.

I didn't watch it but wasn't someone saying something about the under-agers in the futures game last year looking a level above the 2023 draftees through the midfield at least?
Also, I didn't keep tabs but how did the draftees go against whichever vfl side they played against?
Seems like the only solid opportunities to test against players outside the cohort
Have to remember our success from 07-11 was born ostensibly from 2 super drafts in ‘99 and ‘01. We picked up Ling, Corey, Chapman, Enright, Bartel, Kelly, Ablett, Johnson. We were able to develop a large group together. It took though 6 years from ‘01 to realise a flag. An astonishing haul when you think about it.
What the Tigers are attempting is to nail a path that is similar. The difference is that since our earlier draft years we now have much greater player movement via FA. So the avenues to develop a premiership team are broader. The days of just “hitting the draft” to manufacture a championship team are a bit passe.
If though the Tigers nail these picks AND just as importantly can develop these players they can go places. They really are though starting from ground zero this year. Further on they can bring more experience in as North have now realised is essential. It will be a fascinating watch over the next 5 or so years. Can they identify the best talent? Can they develop them? Can they retain these players?

I think what helped us is the we brought a cohort through a club that was stable off field.
Tigers challenge is they are bringiing these kids in to play under a coach yet to get established, turning over the administration at the same time. These kids are going to be leaning heavily on a coaching group that is going to be unstable. What is the chances of Yze being out in 3 years and 2x turnovers of assistants in the next 5 years? I'd say high
Good draft hand but their headwinds are stronger than ours were.
No doubt. I have my doubts whether their strategy will bear fruit. Got to say though it’s an exciting time to be a Tiger fan with this many picks leading into an apparently strong draft. At least it provides hope. I’d much rather be a Tiger fan than a Bomber who are immersed in perpetual mediocrity.

Don't mind it at worst he is depth and helps the VFL side
We were 5 goals up on the eventual premiers with that midfield and got to a Prelim, really dont think its as big of a deal as people make out when we have full availability.

Pass. He's shown he's not up to it and would be miles down the list for depth. We'd be better off going small than going down that route.
From this list we need 3 defenders, 1 ruck and 1 forward (we'd prefer to play 2 but 1 plus O Henry or Martin is manageable):

Neale
We'd only need him as depth if 5 of these guys were injured at the same time. If that happens we're better off throwing Edwards or Furphy in who might have a future rather than wasting it on Weideman.
Hard pass for me. Would rather invest games into a 18yo with potential as a forward. He would simply sit in the VFL and clogg up the development of a prospective key forward.
