It will be Finn OSullivan and he will be gun for them
He’d certainly want to be when you add up what they gave up. It’s like the reverse of the Cameron trade where lazy ppl say 3 1st rounders.

Carl gave up pick 12, a future first, pick 32, Matt Owies and in likelihood downgrade a second rounder next year. That’s a kings Ransome for 1 unproven player

CO with his full contract 😎

Would love piggy Oliver...
Happy Fun GIF

Not giving up hope until someone publicly shuts it down.
Well technically both clubs have shut it down already - in Melbourne's case, multiple times. Clearly Oliver and his management won't publicly shut it down as they want the deal to happen, but Dees not playing ball.

At the end of the day despite the appalling way they've managed the whole thing, he is a contracted player and that is their right to hold him to it.

Yes it's gone very quiet but that could also be part of the strategy by all parties.

I wouldn't completely strike it off until we hear something from Connors or from Oliver. MFC can't be taken seriously with anything they've said - and you could understand why GFC are keeping quiet.

None of that automatically means anything is playing out behind the scenes - but per my previous post, I think if we hear crickets between now and this time tomorrow then I think it's just a case of the whole thing having run out of steam.

The lack of commentary overall though is very strange. Calm before the late storm on Wednesday?

Oliver stuff has gone very quiet. Looks like that ship has sailed.
Was always incredibly long odds, in my view. His contract is monstrous. And that's even more the case when you consider the particular pay structure at our club. Surely Geelong was simply banking on the Dees being that desperate to rid themselves of his cultural baggage that they would accept a massively disadvantageous offer just to get him out of the place.

Turns out they weren't quite as desperate as we'd hoped. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, I guess. Move on to the Butters pursuit in 2025...

It's not happening mate. Oliver has made his position clear, but it doesn't matter when he's contracted for 6 years. He'll still have some friends at the club, and will want to make the best of it. I think we'll revisit it next year, but we were never going to accept that contract in full with the way we run our club.

Was a nice thought. But the only person who has really been driving this whole thing, is Sam McClure - whose track record is not great. Reckon it could get some coverage tomorrow, but Demons have been far too adamant he's not going, to turn around and do a complete 180 on that now.

At 7:30 tomorrow, Oliver won't be a cat. I'd probably put money on that if I didn't detest gambling so much.

You're absolutely spot on here, I reckon.

Yeah you may very well be right. Just to clarify though - I can't recall seeing anything from the Oliver camp shutting it down.

I don't think much has changed from what I've been told. Geelong want him - Oliver wants out - but it was always going to come down to whether Mackie could get MFC to blink.

I think that is all very true, JJ. You won't see Oliver or his management shut it down IMO, because they clearly want it to happen as you say.

But at the end of the day, they're powerless given he is a contracted player, and despite the appalling way the Dees have handled everything, they're well within their rights to hold him to the contract he signed.

I think we thought it might have been a fire sale; it's not quite a that point (yet). Maybe next year.

Because Carlton stuffed up their list management side of things - meaning the player out of contract is the easier option to move on

The real 😂 😂 😂 moment though is WCE agreeing to accept him as part of the trade, the steak knives in a deal for pick 3 when he'd be a DFA in a couple of days as he's not being offered a new deal

The list spot thing with Owies doesn't make any sense to me.

Every club has half a dozen players they could delist and rookie to free up a spot.

I don't know the Carlton young players that are like 36-40 on their list but you could even do it with someone like Fantasia, no one is touching him in the draft.

Thoughts and prayers for the Dogs supporters when they end up with less for Bailey Smith than Baker

They should have warned him before the Pert whispers started (which I'm assuming they didn't do), and should be on a unity ticket as a President, CEO, Coach and Footy Manager on this.

So 1 and 1/2 days to go and the cats have made no progress what so ever! What an absolute waste of time. Make the trade 3 days and stop all this talk of trades that aren’t going to happen.
Can we just finalise this Smith trade and add a future 2nd or 3rd with a later pick coming back. If they don’t accept that, end negotiations, it’s getting silly, unless this has been all orchestrated to get the deal done at 7.29 for the theatre of the telecast tomorrow night….
