Gilchrist- is it time to go?

We needed runs and he folded like he has quite often.

Im a massive Gilly fan but I think he should quit tests.

2 centuries he has made when no one else has made one, thats a bad sat. One of those centuries was when someone made a 90 im quite sure, just doesnt make the runs that often when we need them. Its all good to turn a 380 into 500 but how about turning 200 into 350 odd...

Here are some stats you might be interested in.

Australia 5/126 (We went on to win. Gilly 149*)
Australia 5/99 (Gilly 122)
Australia 6/185 (Gilly 138*)
Australia 5/150 (Gilly 133)
Australia 2/26 (Gilly 144)
Australia 6/93 (Gilly 144)

And there are numerous other occasions when we have been 5/200 odd and Gilly has gone on to make a century.

What years were they. It seems Gilly has been living on his reputation for ages now in Tests

Aside from his experience we wouldn't lose much by replacing Gilchrist with Haddin. And Gilly's best form seems to be behind him.

However, lets not just discard our champions without good cause. If BF posters selected the aussie team we'd be reeling the changes every week.

He'd still have to string quite a few failures in a row to come under serious pressure. And i'm not worried about his keeping, even if it's slipped slightly also.

Has an Australian keeper ever dropped 5 catches in an innings before?

Gilly has only averaged 31 since the 2005 Ashes defeat against some pretty ordinary opposition. Safe to say he is not the player he once was, although still very handy.

His keeping is the more worrying sign. Has been very inconsistent with the glove for a number of years.

Not suggesting he be dropped but pressure needs to be applied when there is such an adequate replacement waiting in the wings.
