Have been missing in action for some time, comes with the age factor, but now back to fighting weight so watch out. What is happening in Sale Maffra cricket. Read Nugget and many are lost, some to higher grade but others just lost. Why? Still many passionate observers on net but not so many at clubs. Who is running the show at GCL and C/Week? Are all the better players going to be available? Why not? Who should be picked? Too many Poms involved? Lets provide the feedback. Be positive with criticism, don't just bag, all/who are listening.

Hard to say why, but, unfortunately it is reality. I think to a certain extent people are a bit more precious with their time. 2 day games aren't very appealing to anyone other than diehards. A prediction I made 2 years ago, is that for the league to survive and thrive, it may eventually (could be 10 years away) have to go to 21 rounds, 14 of 1 day games, 7 of 20 20 games. I'm not sure how much longer players will play 2 day cricket. I have already had a couple of guys suggest to me that they are going to play all the 1 dayers and only a couple of the 2 day games, not necessarilly 1st XI players, but, still, they are SMCA cricketers.

I'm not sure about who is running the show at GCL and Country Week, but, I assume that your issue with Englishman is derived from the fact that Parry was captain last year and there were another 3 English players selected. The reality is that no one else that was suitable wanted to captain the side, and basically, no one else suitable was available for selection. I am sure that in a perfect world, there would be no English involvement at Country Week as we would have enough local players to represent the league, however, if we are to be honest, there was no alternative. People like the 3 young guys that are going to Richmond, Tom Tudor, Brett Lanigan, Toby Leeds, the Scott brothers, should be the ones making up the core of the side, with a few older experienced guys to guide them. Most of those guys did play last year, but the majority of the older guys (who have all given fantastic service to the league last year, and can't be expected to do it forever) were unavailable for the majority of the season. This seems to be the main reason that the English guys were used, as the level of players after the ones mentioned tended to drop off dramatically.

I am led to believe that Stuart Anderson will be captaining the representative sides this year.

That is true, and the focus of the team from talking to him will be based on youth and an eye to the future as well rewarding players in form and who are desperate to play representative cricket for SMCA.

some really positive stuff is about to happen in representative cricket in our league.

To some extent the league got better in regards to having eight teams last year, which did narrow the gap and improve the conteste in games, the problem is also that the same teams are still the succesful ones therefore making it (the season) quite boring and therefore predictable.

I am not neccesarily sure that time is an ultimate factor as the most represented game in the world recreationally is Golf (but they have a different age demographic) but when cricket is competing against numerous factors such as summer, drinking piss with your mates on friday nights, saturday afternoons, pre season football training etc it is hard for people to justify commiting to cricket especially when you may waste 12 hours of your time doing practically nothing to face one ball and go out.

I think the league did the wrong thing a few years ago in reducing the amount of cricket played, why waste all your energy to have eight hits for the season?? When I first started I can remember playing so much cricket it wasn't funny, fisher cup, premiers cup knockout, calendonia and SMCA. you ended up theoretically having 20-25 hits a year. It was good because every week you batted and felt apart of the game.

The other factor is that there are hardly any players between 25 - 32 playing anymore. Probably indicating that they are moving onto other factors of life ie moving away for work, working longer hours, family or travelling etc. These are the players that are killing the competition because usually at that stage they are of a quality and experience to be more than capable cricketers, this automatically wrecks your depth.

I do hate twenty twenty and one day cricket (because I can't slog) but if it is a way of keeping players within the game then I am all for it. I also like the format of playing 60 over two day games but limiting bowlers to 12 overs each similar to fourths, reduces time and theoretically gives more time for people to bat who aren't neccesarily great hitters. Start at one finish by five.

As great a player as Nathan King is, I am predicting that by playing 7 or 8 games for the year, he won't give himself enough opportunity to poll enough votes to tie with a man that is a similar level performer with the ball, a superior batsmen and will play every game.

7 x 3 votes = 21
won't be far away, that'll be good odds, bit like C.Judd, the good players just keep winning!!

No disrespect to Nathan King, but, there is no way known that anyone in this league will poll 7 x 3 vote games in 7 games played. If you would like to have some sort of wager on it, that would be great, however, due to the fact that you seem to get an erection over the fact that no one knows who you are, I guess you aren't going to take me up on the offer.

As in doubt that he would be leaving Bundy, the only teams he would be looking at imo would be either Maffra or Stratford who both have spinners that bowl loads of overs.

Will be bowling plenty of overs with no Morrisons, King or Trevor Wrigglesworth.

Any truth to the rumour Mark Donald is switching clubs for money?

To which club?? Wow, that would further rub salt into the wounds. That would mean that Trethowan, Morrison J, Morrison K, Tom Tudor, Nathan King, Donald and Nathan Fowler from last year's premiership side are all not playing. Also, Ash Bayliss, who is good mates with King, is probably unlikely to continue playing without King there, and Trev Wrig is now working shift work, so, will be unable to play every game.

Basically, that leave Buddah Massey and Daniel Bedgood. All clubs go through phases, but, this would be very unfortunate if that were all to transpire, as after a very successful year for the club last year, it would be a shame to see them struggle too badly. From memory, they have some kids coming through, and some capable players in the seconds, and may still field a reasonable side. I would think it would be a long time since a premier has fielded a side with 8 or 9 changes in Round 1 of the following season.

I doubt that anyone would pay him either. Granted he had a good year last year, however, not many guys that have taken a grand total of 32 SMCA A grade wickets, with no 5 fas, get paid in this league.

that's incredible, all pretty good players, that'll hurt big time.

Is'nt his father in law the Pres at Bundy? Hardly likely to leave if that's the case.
Made some enquiries and S Anderson was appointed CC of GCL and Country Week sides at Assn committee meeting last week. That is great for the younger members of the sides - excellent leader, excellent organiser, good people skills and still excellent player. :thumbsu: Maybe more will make themselves available. Perhaps might talk his new team mate King into playing.:heart:

I was just thining about next weekend and if they would move games.

Anyone got some pre season predictions or club news? Players moved clubs etc and

top run scorer
leading wickets
premiers
runner up
spoon
most improved team
players to watch for this season

top run scorer - I.Wrigglesworth
leading wickets - S.Anderson
premiers - College
runner up - Stratford
spoon - Bundy (If they lose everyone apparently)
most improved team - Rosedale Kilmany
players to watch for this season - Brad and Anthony Scott.

This year will be a very close year, on paper College loook the team to beat but the field is very close and in reality should see the closest contests for the final four spots in a while.
