I'm sorry Darcy, how many? 3 or 4? Good heavens!! How will you survive the treachery of that?!?
Just looked it up, Collingwood & Geelong played the same amount of interstate games in 2023.

Imagine if Geelong got 17 games at KP, and every final and the Grand Final as well.Just looked it up, Collingwood & Geelong played the same amount of interstate games in 2023.
Came into this thread because I have friends who are cats supporters and I was asking about the new stand.Imagine if Geelong got 17 games at KP, and every final and the Grand Final as well.
You're the cheat club.
Well, you and Richmond and Hawthorn and a couple of others.
Came into this thread because I have friends who are cats supporters and I was asking about the new stand.
Your comments (and those of others) made me think about “fairness” and the like.
Would cats supporters be happy being treated as “not Melbourne”?
In that all cats games are at K park.
(I’m sure the answer is yes!!).
Presume that decision alone nets about 1M less revenue a year. But for the sake of the discussion, let’s ignore that.
So therefore, all away games are treated the same as oppos side travelling to K park:
What is the oppo ticket allocation? 4K?
(Legit question)?
So at the G/marvel (away games), cats away get 4K tickets and are seated in a single bay.
Does that work?
Medallion club/MCC would need to be factored in; unless cats have a similar “supporter agnostic” area?!?
No idea, just asking.
An interesting discussion nevertheless.
I’m not expecting much except vitriol. But let’s not quote other leagues without applying both standards to the home/away debate!!
It will forever be an interesting side note to the inequality that is the AFL!!
Ps. Can’t wait to see the new stadium. Hope I can get a ticket to come and experience it!!!!
Marvel and MCG have AFL, MCC, Club member, and general admission seating. The single bay concept only exists interstate because it matches the demand of the visiting team.Came into this thread because I have friends who are cats supporters and I was asking about the new stand.

Geelong makes more money from a KP game than a full capacity game at Marvel and an 85k crowd at the G. Financially we are better off playing home games in Melbourne from this perspective. Whether out membership numbers would drop is another consideration.Presume that decision alone nets about 1M less revenue a year. But for the sake of the discussion, let’s ignore that.
Home team have full control of their grounds for H+A games outside of stadium run seating areas (MCC, AFL members, Medallion club etc).So at the G/marvel (away games), cats away get 4K tickets and are seated in a single bay.
Does that work?
This is why I enjoy the cats board and supporters!!Marvel and MCG have AFL, MCC, Club member, and general admission seating. The single bay concept only exists interstate because it matches the demand of the visiting team.
See 2022 PF with Collingwood and Sydney. Sydney earns the right to a home PF yet the AFL set the allocation of tickets. Hence 20k Collingwood supporters now have tickets to an away PF.
Without trying to be combative the interesting side note to the inequality in the AFL is actually with clubs who are based in Melbourne not named Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond, Carlton.
Geelong do not get an equal draw relative to what it should be. However, it is far better than the likes of the Bulldogs or North Melbourne.
I doubt you make more money at KP than 85k at the G. How does that work?Geelong makes more money from a KP game than a full capacity game at Marvel and an 85k crowd at the G. The reality for most MCG and Marvel games is that the home teams need away fans to fill their seats. How many times a year do Melbourne games sellout? Hardly. Thats why they’re all happy for other clubs to sell away game memberships (away team pays the home team for access).
The reality is that the club could still organise a 5-6 game Melbourne away membership to cater to Melbourne based fans and maximise their 11 home games in Geelong. One reason we dont is that the AFL has contracts with stadiums for minimum games and they also allow clubs to sell games. Our 2 games are a contractual necessity caused by HQ negligence.

!!
Would you be happy if pies played at KP? Because as it stands, the AFL would step in and give 20k tickets to pies (using your syd and single bay is based on demand examples).
.
100% agree on the last part! Home vs away would be truely amazing!!Yes I would love to play the pies down there. Was at the game the last time pies there I think back in 1999. The AFL only get involved in ticketing during finals as far I am aware of. Home and away games are up to the home team in terms of ticket allocations. Like all other sports around the world, if the home venue can’t fit in oppo supporters, it’s just bad luck and give them a small amount.
That being said GA allocation will increase this year at KP and anyone can still get a reserved ticket online via ticketmaster. You just need to be fast and be prepared to sit anywhere. Often clubs don’t use all their allocation when given one down there as well. Maybe they don’t like to travel there. I travel interstate to most venues every year and struggle but always get seats at crows, eagles and lions games. I just sit wherever I can.
I actually live a few hundred metres from the G and love being able to walk and go to the footy there. But do believe the home team (whoever you are) should be able to determine where they play their games no matter what (and how tickets are allocated). Will never happen though due to contractual arrangements and Melbourne stadium rationalisation that occurred in the 90s.

They do. Read the clubs financial statements and also what the clubs administrators say. They’ve been saying it for years. With the increase in capacity it may even mean they make more at KP full stop

The stadium fully completed over the road would be unreal, hopefully there will be a stage 6.
Stage 6 may as well be Stage 1 it will be that far in the future. The stadium is good now for at least 20 years you would reckonThe stadium fully completed over the road would be unreal, hopefully there will be a stage 6.
Cats run (or lease out? ) all food and beverage outlets and most other revenue making opportunities, I believe.Correct. From the moment Geelong started playing home games at Docklands it was often mentioned that something like half the crowd at KP would be financially better. Playing home games at the G were similarly worse off.
For this reason alone I've always thought a Tassie team would do OK if they too set up a similar stadium deal to what Geelong have.
100% we do. Brian Cook Is on record as stating that.I doubt you make more money at KP than 85k at the G. How does that work?
Cats don’t own KP do they?
I doubt they have “full control”.
Which even if they did, is outside of about 33% of the ground (at MCG and marvel).
It would be an interesting watch.
If cats had full control…,would they play but Melb clubs at KP….i very much doubt it.
Edit: great convo BTW. I’ve learnt a thing or two!!
This is it for now, let's make it a great place to go to the footy. It would be great to get it pumping, we've been a bit too polite and quiet in the main, especially as we've been so successful. Some Barmy Army-style chants/songs or such would be great, just so long as some nerd in the marketing dept doesn't come up with some inane thing over the PA system. Boys at the back of the Players Stand had some good stuff at times last season.I recently had a brief chat with Steve Hocking (what a great, approachable CEO!) and wistfully mentioned that it would be nice to see stage 5 sized stands completely circle the ground some day. He just smiled and said, “not in our lifetime.”
So, I guess, enjoy what we have been given for a while to come because, other than some fine tuning and minor refurbishment, Stage 6 is a loooonng way off.
They need to drop that stupid marching band crap. Feels like a fel-good movie scene from an American country town's college football. Doesn't belong at an Aussie-rules game.just so long as some nerd in the marketing dept doesn't come up with some inane thing over the PA system.
No they ****ing wouldn't, ffs. This is it for now, let's make it a great place to go to the footy. Knitting gets a fair run as well.Settle down with a good book and hope the footy doesnt interrupt you; that's how the crowd at KP normally enjoys their day out on the weekend.
We've all seen it, the knitting, the book. And that's OK, each to their own. But as a crowd it seems all we've got is "Geee-long, clap, clap, clap, Geee-long, clap, clap, clap". Hardly enough to even make the knitters look up. "Coll-ing-wooood" might be somewhat simple, but when the 'G is rocking with it, it's spine tingling, even for an opposition supporter. Surely we can get Kardinia Park going with something. Or maybe we're happy to be the polite country folk ... got another scone, Merle?Knitting gets a fair run as well.
Loved the "Collingwood" chant by Pies fans once they took the lead in the 2011 GF.We've all seen it, the knitting, the book. And that's OK, each to their own.
