Goal of the Year?

Real tough year. McPhees was definitely 'different' but then a few of those from the boundary were incredible.

I quite like Dales and Cyrils.

Tough year and we're only half way through!!

Rioli and McPhee... I can't help but prefer Rioli's goal, but objectively, I can't say which is better. I have no idea how people could suggest Dale Thomas' goal... it's similar to Rioli's but without breaking two tackles and evading four opposition players. Also, Rioli didn't really have any other option - Thomas took a low percentage option in trying to kick the goal.

All the GOTY this year all seem to be the same thing, dribble from the pocket or an amazing checkside. Any other goals from now on will only just become = with the goals there already is unless somebody does a bakckflip checkside on his non prferred foot from 40 out on the impossible angle.

Personally, I would like to see a goal like 1 of lovetts back in round 3 win when he took 4 odd bounces from half back to kick a goal from 50 win rather then these checksides or dribble goals.

The was a goal that Aaron Davey kicked against Freo where he had the ball at half foward, baulked the man on the mark, dodged another bloke, had a couple of bounces and kicked a goal.
I think that is the best on of have seen so far this yr.

Fev's on the weekend would be second for me thus far.

Although i can't recall seeing the Motlop one. (I've seen all the other contenders)

Nah, Motlop did that last year from 50, and it didn't win. ;)

It's a bit like the Brownlow (in that it's the best in one year rather than consistently good over a period of time), I'd like Motlop to win it because he seems to kick amazing goals more often than most, but I suspect Rioli will get it this year.

im surprised simmo's goal against essendon on the weekend would have got a nomination this week..i saw the replay at the ground and it looked to be a ripper..on the run on the wrong side for a left footer..but i didnt see a replay on tv so i duhno if it actually deservered a nomination..

iv lost most of my respect for dale thomas after he kicked that running goal against west coast and after he kicked it was on his knees and did that gay little taunt to the west coast player..if he did that to barry hall and hall clocked him then i woulda bin all for letting him off with a slap on the wrist..

reminds me of the carlton collingwood game wen a collingwood supporter was getting arrested and a carlton supporter kept taunting him so the police let him go n he attacked the carlton supporter..haha..

but as for GOTY..

mcphee > betts > rioli > lovett > either one of fevs > motlop

Betts, McPhee and Motlop have been seen as somewhat of an inconsistant nature. Mcphee has kicked a few freakish goals in his time, as has betts and motlop. the more you do it the less it is worth.

i didnt like thomas's thing either, but you see players these days do all kind of that stuff.
just look at mark williams against port, the choking gestuar!

I'm surprsise that Harry O'Brien's goal hasn't rated a mention. He had to win the ball, and then slotted it home from an 'impossible angle'.

But, as we saw last year, the panel seems to have no idea as to how to separate the bendy, dribbly goals. That's how Lloyd's piece of nonsense got the gong. (the Bradbury award).

I don't know what they are going to do this year. I nominated Motlop's when it happened, just because it was different - dribbly instead of bendy. But then a talentless drone like Osborne kicks one just the same, but further!

I don't think anyone knows how to separate all of the goals.

Apart from Rule Number 1 - a goal kicked by one of our players is better than a similar goal kicked by someone else's player.

So Harry's it is!!!

it wont get it cus it wasnt a goal lol

there have been so many of the same type of goals this year from the boundary. I'd say Adam Mchphee, Cyril Riolis would be up there managed to break a few tackles and still kicked it, Dale Thomas 4 or 5 running bounce goal a few weeks ago and even Luke Hodges vs the crows dont see many like that good old fashion selling of the candy great to see. ????

Gary Ablett snr must have been worthless by the time he finished.

Commetti called Fev's goal when he gave it off and got it back to drill it on the run post high from 50 right on the boundary line the goal of the year.

Fev kicked it across his body from the wrong side of the ground and meant it. :thumbsu:

I've never seen a full forward who is a man mountain, yet as balanced as a Didak, Motlop, Akermanis or Daicos on the run with.

Freak.
