According to the Herald Sun today, people who were at the game are disputing the official figure of 6354 claiming it was closer to 4000.

Sad sad day when the AFL has to start fudging your attendance figures.

This embarrassment is doing nothing more than damaging the AFL brand on the Gold Coast and really should not be allowed to continue. Send up decent clubs that people are actually interested in watching or send no one.

This is not the first time this has happened at a North interstate away game. They played Port at the SCG & got an official 6000. The real crowd was closer to 3500. North even paid for buses to bring kids in for a pre-game clinic.

If I were the AFL I'd bar North from playing any more of their home matches interstate. And make sure they do NOT get their development money either.

They want their cake. North Melbourne should be made eat it. They have alienated people from both themselves & even Australian Rules Football as a whole in both Sydney Canberra & now the Gold Coast. But as Dean Laidley said, they couldn't care if they played in front of nobody.

North Melbourne=no respect for the development of footy in the northern states.

If I were the AFL I'd issue an apology for scheduling such a match when the Lions are on FTA in Qld and the compounded factor of the Eagles' form, combined with the backlash from the Kangaroos no-relocation decision.

Oh, hang on, they did last week....

Gee they pull more people at a VFL game than that.

At the end of the day North pulled out of QLD so the GC people sent North Melb a message.

Sweet.

And continued to lose credibility.....

Who?
The AFL?

Why would North lose credibility? We were very professional. We went up there, did our job, agreed to do what ever was required of us.

It was the AFL that scheduled a second QLD team against the game, it was the AFL that cancelled the junior footy clinics (great move, the one group of people who would not be affected by everything that has gone on get totally jibbed), it was the AFL that chose not to promote the game aggressively.

We have committed to Melbourne - if the that upsets the Gold Coast or AFL, then our position is clear......we really don't give a ____.

But thanks for the $400,000.

Yeah umm I don't think North had anything to do with the crowd figure. In fact, we got the $400000 there.

Well put, JF. If a team is going to play home games interstate for money they should at least make an effort to integrate with the locals, much as Hawthorn have done with Tasmania.

So you'd like us to intergrate with a community that we gave the royal middle finger to. I'm sure that's settlers did after they took the land from the Australian Aboriginals, gathered around for a nice round of crocodile meat around the camp fire.

And continued to lose credibility.....

No, in fact, I'm suprised we got even 4000.

I found it funny that they were advertising the GC17 team in the sponsor boards. Nobody wants to see a 1-6 team with the lowest supporter base in the area, and a team that obviously hates the city.

Another pathetic attempt at a troll by another pathetic Whorethorn supporter. If u are that interested in the Carrarra attendance, look at any of the other 250,000 threads going which continue to take the piss. But at the end of the day d*ckhead

Something people like you don't understand is this;
North played games at Manuka oval, then moved onto Cararra as there appeared to be no more room for growth in Canberra. Once on the Gold Coast crowds of 10k came to watch AFL football. North brought AFL to the Gold Coast by nominating to play games there with significant financial incentives from the AFL and GCCC. 10k turned up not because they were under any pretense that North would relocate and become their team, but more so to have AFL live in their region. There was no explicit promise made to relocate there until the AFL made their push. NMFC rejected this. The decision to stay in Melbourne was not a decision against the Gold Coast. It was decision against any relocation even New York.

So what has changed between last year and this year? Nothing! North Melbourne are still a Melbourne based club playing 6 games over the next two years on the Gold Coast. It is good footy, so if your an AFL fan and turned up last year but choose not to go this year because NMFC are staying in Melbourne, then go F.CK your self because nothing has changed, no promises were broken and you still get tp watch live footy.

I think you've picked exactly the right place to reming GC sport watchers of their obligations. Well Done! :thumbsu:

Not making a cheap shot at hawthorn and tasmania, but moistie you have to remember that tasmania is a footballing state. And the crowds are flattering hawthorn if you want to compare them to the Gold coast.

My real point is that i dont really believe that 18 teams is good for the comp, but if you are going to do it then tasmania deserves a team. They will put the people in the stadium, support will be stable and will grow quickly and the game is not a novelty for them.

Western sydney will be the nub of jokes for 20 years. Completely farcical, and for tV dollars put it somewhere where at least the locals get something out of it. That was grass roots footy as I remember it.

This expansionism is akin to colonialism and very distinct from true football values. More like an imprimateur for administrators. I know they are trying to exploit tv dollars. What happens when these TV dollars fall and they will......Costs suddenly become very real

So to that extent moistie is right. Because when things go bad and the afl has limited resources and less flexibilty to shed its current arrogance and suddenly finds itself against a number of clubs as irredeemable debtors, then at least there are people in the park who care in tasmania. The AFL will forget and fold quickly on these clubs in the future.

And no .......i am a melbourne boy

the afl always fudge the figures by a few thousand.. it normally doesn't really make a difference when its around the 20,000+ mark but when its already that low, (6k), its a massive difference.

They take the figure of how many "seats" were sold, not actually how many people go through the gates yeah? i.e. corporate seats even if they dont get filled, and members getting tickets and not turning up..?

i wouldnt be suprised if it was actually half the original figure they put out..

There is no way the AFL will allow this farce to continue next year. Good to see so many gloating about earning, sorry, making $400,000 from this embarrassment who haven't realised yet it's also just cost them $2,400,000.
