Did they actually fold in 1907 with a completely new club being formed in 1908?
Wikipedia is vague on this - it says they were initially kicked out after merging with West Melbourne and trying to join the VFL but were readmitted to the VFA.
It also says the original NMFC folded, with a new club - Hotham - being formed a few years later which then took on the NMFC name.

The city of Hotham changed it’s name to North Melbourne. I think it was in 1887. So the club’s name changed with it.
North Melbourne had to officially fold to be allowed back in the VFA in 1908.
But in the end it was really just re-established and continuation of their long history was retained. Probably a similar situation with North Ballarat retaining their history.
West Melbourne though was the real causality of it all.

Really like the fade and works well will the sun concept especially yellow to orange.
a rising sun theme is a good idea. i like the gradients, but i'd ditch the white (with 3 dominant colours in the colour scheme it gets a bit messy).
I originally tried it without the white and it looked a bit off, especially considering there’s a fair bit of white in the logo
A complete knock off I know but at least an idea for a new Gold Coast logo that doesn't involve G-C lettering or Sun with gradient.

The wave jumpers from 2011 were, by Gold Coast standards, fantastic. Should've been their main jumpers instead of the boring one they have now.

GC should take advantage of the fact that they’re not burdened by history or tradition in any significant way and just change their kit every year. Surely there’s more interest and money in this approach. It’s common practice in many sports but would set them apart in the AFL.
How much better does the SUNS jumper look without yellow side panels and that stupid yellow half circle on back collar

I have no idea why that looks better than what they have at the moment but it does. I feel like some trimming on the cuffs/collar would go a long way and really sell the 'clean' look but great stuff regardless.
Look better but maintain that the GC logo is the biggest issue. It's a terrible design.

I don't think "too simple" is something that you really have to worry about when designing a jumper. Most are just some variation of a line or lines on a plain background. I feel like something like this might work:
Replace the blue with yellow and you've got a classic.
