Selfish, words fail me , how about couragious, bleeds for the colours , current captain of Victoria, absolute leader. Lets let the white collar managers determine his fate. I remember when we used to value footballers of brilliance.

Im not denying any of those characteristics. Brown has them all. But no one player is bigger then the team - there is no doubt this thing has affected the team through one way or another and it is quite likely at the roots of the Matthews/Brown alleged feud. I think the whole thing could have been better handled by both the Lions and Brown and i also think that these things should not be underestimated in the negative effect they can have on a team. Getting run down 4 times since round 10 when we should have won games starts to suggest somethign more then just 'bad luck'.

I remember when it had a detrimental effect on the club's list management ability

FFS we had a detrimental list on the 3 pt. What do you mean? Replace a champion for mediocrity, are you an employer looking for cheap labour.? He means more, he is an icon, cut him and the club loses face in the football community, it will show we have no loyalty, no value for great players, we will be a basket case and the football world will laugh at us. We are in for seasons of pain if we let him go.

Alleged being the key word.

Media beatup if there ever was one.

Yeah i know, but players read the papers, the players would know this, im not getting stuck into anyone at all, im just making the observation that i don't think this episode has helped enhance the teams performance. If Brown leaves, we're ****ed.

Run down, how about having decent delivery. It's not JB but the crap coaching of Leigh. He has been doubled team so long but the brains trust do nothing about it. He can't even punch the ball to the ground because nobodies there to crumb. Friggin hopeless coaching . They have destroyed him.

I want to keep him as much as the next bloke but there is no such thing as a blank cheque when running a football club.

Yeah no full forward except JB gets double teamed. Sack Leigh.

Has the club given any indication they want to let him go?

A mutually agreeable contract would be better than just writing him a blank cheque.

Emotion certainly plays its part here, but so does keeping a cool head and planning realistically.

You'll probably try to paint this as me spitting in Browny's face... but its a messy situation and you won't be the one held to account if the whole thing goes balls up and we cant pay for Rischitelli and Brennan in 3 years time.

You don't get it do you? Leigh is a control freak. Soon as anyone gets in the limelight they are removed. Leigh doesn't like players of profile. They challenge his authority.

I think it would be a tragedy for Brown to leave Brisbane. I see all the great players as much better off as 1 club players both for themselves and for their club and then ultimately for the whole competition.

I felt the same way about Judd leaving but even more so Brown. Judd, even though I rate him as better than Brown as a player over his career, didn't didnt bleed for the WCE like Brown does for the Lions.
Brown is a marquee player and has actively portrayed himself as part of the fabric of the Lions. He should stay.

From a Collingwood view I dont want us to sell out our future to get a player who has probably had his best years already. So I hope we dont want him if that helps. Not at the probable asking price anyway.

As for the Lions future I think you are perhaps over rating your current list. Its hard to stay up when you come off those premiership years. While you have some young talent on your list it doesnt strike me as one of standout lists for the future. I think like most of the teams around you ,including us, you are developing not contenting currently .

Your place on the ladder reflects your lists quality. you are in the st-tfight with the rest of us . Who ultimately contends will pan out later.

In short , sorry but you aint that good!!

After a restless sleep and a whole day thinking about the Brisbane/Brown situation im no more confident that he will be sticking around.

I do however take a bit from what he has said about our future etc in the interviews last night. It appears that a decision is not far away either way

He's been an absolute champion for us, I hope that if he leaves we will find it in ourselves to thank him for what he has done for us instead of halfwit comments like he is selfish etc - it wil be tough though.

Oh c'mon dude, get a grip on reality.

Thanks for the profile, but if we lose JB it will rip the heart out of the club. Unfortunately loyalty to players is paramount, coaches come and go. A coach can sit on his hands or come out strongly for a player he believes in, even at the risk of his own career. I haven't seen that to date. This is about admin or players, well in this instance give me the player. Give him 5 years or more, because thats what makes me a Lions supporter.

What a strange... strange post.

How have you turned this into a choice between Browny and Lethal?

I honestly have no idea what you are on about.

How many times has the club come out and said that they wnat to keep Brown? It's a weekly thing.

Why is it that it's always the clubs that are at fault when player's contracts aren't sorted out immediately??

Why is it that Blackie's contract is not having as much melodrama involved? He would be the club's 2nd most valuable player in every way (public/media etc). He comes out and says he's staying and it will be sorted out at the end of the season and everyone's happy.

How much more does Leigh have to say publicly about Browny as well? He has always raved about him. The only slightly negative thing that's been said was about the State of Origin this year. Given that Browny hadn't put the team first in that matter does it really come as a surprise that his coach may have questioned what happened?

Well down here in chilly Vic, rumours are rife, it's not good. And it would be nice to know that JB is signed up, but he is not. Why must we wait to the death knell that he is. The club should tie these things up early. Why not?

Are you on crack or something?

As harsh as this is going to sound I am going to say it anyway: if you are a Lions member solely because of Brown then some questions have to be raised about your loyalty to the team. Personally, I would be shocked and irritated if the Lions gave Brown 5yrs.

Because contract negotiations are more complex than they appear, especially with high profile players.

You do realise that a contract is between 2 parties? Why assume that it's the club that's dragging its heals? Don't you think they would have wanted this sorted months ago?

You don't have a monopoly on loving Browny, we all love him. (I have my username for a reason.)

Being irrational and ignoring the various factors at play doesn't have to be part of the thought process.
