Goodbye Browny

You don't have a monopoly on loving Browny, we all love him. (I have my username for a reason.)

Being irrational and ignoring the various factors at play doesn't have to be part of the thought process.

I promise to be rational if you explain the"various factors." Mind you if BD goes I still have M@B for my moniker. What will your's be?

Thanks for the profile, but if we lose JB it will rip the heart out of the club. Unfortunately loyalty to players is paramount, coaches come and go. A coach can sit on his hands or come out strongly for a player he believes in, even at the risk of his own career. I haven't seen that to date. This is about admin or players, well in this instance give me the player. Give him 5 years or more, because thats what makes me a Lions supporter.

And players don't come and go?. It is all very well suggesting that we give him 5 years "because thats what makes me a Lions supporter" but there are no doubt more who will by highly critical if after 3 years Browny breaks down and is payed for 2 years while sitting on the long term injury list. Lets just use Vossy as an example shall we. I read many posts around critical of our back ended contract with him and 5 years to Browny, on a whim because that is all it is, is what this would be in the end if the worst came to the worst, a back ended contract.

Also no player has ever been bigger than the club, our club or any other club. Players come and players go, as do coachs, and long efter they have gone there will be the club.

I would agree with you 100% but the problem I have is that Jothno can/is still playing wonderful football at the hardest position on the ground, and I just can't agree to letting him go. He is moving better than ever and the best years are to come. We were gifted him thru Fitzroy which makes it even better.

You don't get it do you? Leigh is a control freak. Soon as anyone gets in the limelight they are removed. Leigh doesn't like players of profile. They challenge his authority.

I want him to stay as much as the next bloke. If we give him a 5 year contract you will not see me be critical nor will you see me be critical if we don't no matter the future extenuating circumstances, be that injury... whatever. I trust the Admin to do what they think is best for the club and IMO they have hardly been wrong now for nearly a decade. Heck man 3 flags and a shot at a forth is success beyond my wildest imagination.

I think that we, yes you, me and others who contribute here, need to kick back and take on board that what happens happens. I know that as hard as it is in the rarefied air of Melbourne footy obsession to relax, in the end we are supposed to enjoy the game and the joys that it can bring.

In some ways I agree John, but then again we had the luxury of a merger and father and son, then a coach who was a good finisher who was given a team with buckets load of talent. We have since lost our salary cap extension, tended to recruit outside traditional football feeders, and had a change in admin. Graham Downie gone, our recruiting guy has changed and the support staff are different. 3 flags, well some clubs take 40 - 100 years to win them. It is a tough industry, and there is no guarantee that we win a flag in the next 50 years. The one thing that stands out in successful clubs in the AFL is to be ruthless on and off the field. Just the way it has to be.

Are you trying to be funny? Or are you genuine with that huge contradiction with the rest of your posts?
