Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

If this story is true, what would have happened is that the charge was graded as high contact, low impact, negligent conduct... leading to a level 1 offence and 125 points. After a 25% early plea that would be reduced to 93.75 points and a reprimand.

You are 100% correct - they just announced it as level 1 and 125 points, down to 93.75 with an early plea.

SYDNEY'S Adam Goodes will be free to play St Kilda this weekend after being offered a reprimand for making high contact to Adam Selwood on Saturday. Goodes bumped Selwood's head during the first quarter of the Swans' win, but the match review panel only assessed it as negligent contact, meaning Goodes can take a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with a guilty plea.

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

Ah screw it, not even worth getting riled over anymore. The MRP is the biggest blight on the game today.

Careful with your gloating Swans fans, this stuff has a way of coming back and biting you with 90 odd carry over points hate to see Goodes get reported for something trivial in round 22 and missing the first week of the finals.

Why would you hate to see that? It'd be poetic justice at its finest!

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

And in other news, Leigh Matthews has drowned in a wave of journos seeking further comment about Goodes and "the system".

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

Carry over points should last more than 12 months, what a joke

Just to explain the carryover points situation:

Residual or carryover points expire after one "AFL year". An AFL year is defined as lasting until the corresponding round in the next season. Thus Goodes got 70.31 points in round 5 of 2007, and they expired after round 5 of 2008.

This is bullshit and needs to change. I would make carry-over points last 2 years.

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

Wow.. I'm not surprised but still amazed.

good luck to Goodes and Sydney.

Got to wonder where this is heading to, could Goodes king-hit a player and still get off?

Already has. The hit behind play into the back of a Melbourne opponent, got off that one too.

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

Just stated on 10 too, that controversy is surrounding Goodes yet again. If it is true that he has gotten off the charge with a reprimand, the league and MRP are sinking to every low to protect Sydney and Goodes.

He can be a tough guy on the park, but taking the head off an opponent is reckless. What is going to happen next when he continues to play like this and really injures someone?

He needs to be taught a lesson, by the MRP. How many times this year are we going to say this?

Did he get a reprimand or just get the discount points and go below 100 points?

It's an important distinction, as I agree a reprimand was very lucky but if the stated grading was above 100 points for a week then that is consistent with the Burgoyne case a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

ABC radio have also reported this.

They think it is an absolute joke as well. Got to agree

I suspect there will be a few $20,000 fines this week. more than one coach will have a crack at this one, i suspect the players might have something to say as well.

Mooney got off, not enough force to warrant a report (at least this is right)

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

Clearly negligent, not his fault Selwood's head was in the way of where he wanted to run.

Does that mean the bump only count as 23.75 points?

Sarcasm, despite being the lowest form of humour, is often lost in mediums such as this...should have added the  in the original post.

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

I give up.

Let's just ditch the MRP and have a lottery for reports, rather than a lottery for the draft... that's how consistent and predictable their decisions are. Or perhaps MRP's Lucky Wheel. Their decisions do have the feel of a country school fete to them.

Problem is, Goodes will always have the winning ticket.
