Goodes - surely must go this time

Re: Goodes offered a reprimand

Absolutely disgraceful if true. Waters gets two, Murphy one for less than the Goodes hit. Goodes wasn't going for the ball, didn't slow down or try to avoid contact, and hit Selwood in the head. But hardly surprising if he does get off, completely protected species.

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

That's absolute crap. The guy he hit had his head over the ball, very similar to the Burgoyne hit on Mitchell. And Murphy got a week because the Hawthorn player didn't go in hard.

Re: Goodes offered a reprimand

Was just confirmed by Fox Sports News.

They also showed the incident. Reckless and negligent.

I said last week that Robert Murphy would get weeks because the head is protected. After seeing Goodes, it was clearly worse than the Murphy one and yet Murphy got suspended.

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

Absolute bullshit.

If he played for Hawthorn, he'd have copped a month like McGlynn.

Protected species. Complete joke.

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

Just to explain the carryover points situation:

Residual or carryover points expire after one "AFL year". An AFL year is defined as lasting until the corresponding round in the next season. Thus Goodes got 70.31 points in round 5 of 2007, and they expired after round 5 of 2008.

Also, Goodes isn't eligible for the "good record" 25% discount because he has been found guilty of an offence in the last five years.

If this story is true, what would have happened is that the charge was graded as high contact, low impact, negligent conduct... leading to a level 1 offence and 125 points. After a 25% early plea that would be reduced to 93.75 points and a reprimand.

I hate to say it but that sounds fair enough. The only thing you could possibly argue is that it was reckless, not merely neligent.

Goodes must be touched by a higher power. It's amazing how lucky he's been time and time again.

hahah did you actually watch it. The player that didnt go hard was Murphy, because of insteed of going for the ball, he went straight past it and hit Ellis (who was going for the ball).

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

Ah screw it, not even worth getting riled over anymore. The MRP is the biggest blight on the game today.

Careful with your gloating Swans fans, this stuff has a way of coming back and biting you with 90 odd carry over points hate to see Goodes get reported for something trivial in round 22 and missing the first week of the finals.

Yeah "Lucky"

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

Wow.. I'm not surprised but still amazed.

good luck to Goodes and Sydney.

Got to wonder where this is heading to, could Goodes king-hit a player and still get off?

Oh dear, do we need to spell it out for you.

If the reported gradings are correct then the only difference between Goodes and Burgoyne is the grading of the level of impact.

You could not argue that the Goodes impact was anywhere near what Burgoyne got Mitchell with.

Add to that he contested it and had carry over points get's you the difference in the sentence.

:D

Re: Adam Goodes offered a reprimand

Just stated on 10 too, that controversy is surrounding Goodes yet again. If it is true that he has gotten off the charge with a reprimand, the league and MRP are sinking to every low to protect Sydney and Goodes.

He can be a tough guy on the park, but taking the head off an opponent is reckless. What is going to happen next when he continues to play like this and really injures someone?

He needs to be taught a lesson, by the MRP. How many times this year are we going to say this?

I agree. The problem is he'll take the offer, because it means he doesn't miss a game. I wouldn't mind seeing Sydney dispute it, as it was nothing more than a free kick. If it does come back to bite when Goodes does something trivial (and whenever he does something trivial it DOES get reported), they can't dispute the old carryover points.

Basically, if it can be downgraded to 0 weeks, the AFL can offer whatever they like and players will take it these days.
