Couple of big weeks ahead. With Echuca losing two in a row the Cats are sitting pretty, therefore the game against United this weekend is huge giving the Demons a chance at going up another spot on the ladder. Was at the game in Echuca and was extremely impressed with Shepp United. They shut down all of the threats that Echuca possessed their back line was awesome! Height and Murray were well held by number 7 from united and 23.
Will be a very interesting game this weekend!

this game may decide who will end up ahead of who for the year. Echuca have best of the draw for the rest of the year, don't play any of the teams above them so I think they will end up top with Ky, United and Mooroopna finishing anywhere from 2nd to 4th. Rochie should end up 5th with Mansfield and Swans for 6th, probably Mansfield because of their home ground advantage getting them some of the 50/50 games

How even has the year been and I couldn't pick the premiers let alone the two grand finalists

You can't show anymore clearly the eveness of the comp this year than by seeing Echuca drop from first to fourth in one round!
Exciting for the comp, but echuca can't be happy to have lost two straight. Got a couple of easier game s ahead against tat, benalla and shepp but the last fortnight was their chance to prove themselves and they didn't...agree tho, hard to pick a premiership fav right now...

Fair call Tucky, especially with at least 2 interesting results over the weekend. I don't think many GV followers would have expected the cats to keep Rochy to 4 goals and inflict an 11 goal thrashing and most would have probably tipped Echuca to get over United, not to get taken to the sword.

Did anyone watch either of these games and if so, can they give a match report? Apparently high rated mooroopna recruit Jordan Souter had it on a string against the tiges, the win made more impressive with only average performances from front-liners Mick Gay, Russ Lee and Percy Roberts..

Given their tough run home, are Rochy a chance to miss out? And who goes into flag favouratism given the results over the weekend?

SOUTER was very good; along with Wayne PATAK and Chris SCHIRMER.

Big Mick is running into form and Percy cant have 40 every week.

The only Rochester bloke who gave a yelp was one of the coaching staff Mick AULD who punched the injured Mooroopna player Nathan TWEDDLE. TWEDDLE had been doing the stats and was whacked and abuised as he walked across the oval at half time. Pretty ordinary act if you ask me but that's will be for the league to act on. Mick must not have liked the stats but they were ordinary.

Shepp Swans have well and truly died in the arse and are a big chance to not make finals. Shepp United could have a crack and Rochy would be pretty hopeful of hanging onto the top six. Echuca would want to pick up their game heading into the business end of the season. But I wouldn't think they've hit panic stations just yet.

The top 4 are very even on paper. For me Ky have the most depth and strength throughout their side and i can see them finishing top of the ladder at the end of the year.

Ky have a very tough run home with games against Mansfield, Mooroopna, United, Rochy and Tat. They would probably need to win at least 3 of those possibly 4 to finish top 2. Echuca have Mooroopna this week than a much easier draw after that. They will finish top 2.
You would much rather have a tough run going in than an easy one in my opinion.

it's hard to split the top 5, all can beat each other on their day. The best part of it all is that the teams have to win the big games against each other to get into the top 3 which is the most important result.


Mooroopna and Echuca have recruited gun footballers and are at the top where they should be with the players they have got. Key onballers in Patak & Dorward for each team have made thier marks in the league.

Ky have lost plenty from last year but have covered that with Pettifer and Sneddon, are they better than last year? Their guys from last year have stepped but in the end it probably may depend on how their Bushies players go.

United are another team that has recruited well to put them up the top, will Eagle be the one who controls their fate? Or will it be Edwards who is the key player?

Rochie can mix it with the best, their big forwards are as good as any running around? Are they too reliant on Bowen and Campbell? Their backline with Briggs and Sheldon running is a key factor


Mansfield and Seymour haven't covered the players they have lost, can they get back quickly or will they have to rebuild over a few years?


Swans can't be as bad as they are playing, what is wrong there. Too many chiefs and not enough indians, not working together but playing as individuals?

Tat are just behind the pace, plenty of big guys but don't have the runners or the depth.

Hey MJ, normally agree with most of your posts, but not so on the last point. I'd rather much be in Echuca's position than Ky's at the moment. I see your point T.Perry and I agree that a double chance is going to be vital this year as it always is. I guess the point I was trying to make is that a team like Echuca is going to have 4-5 weeks of fairly easy football against mediocre teams with very little intensity. As a coach you would have to be a little concerned with that as intensity in finals footy is something you simply cannot train for. The difference between playing a Euroa or Shepp one week to a Mooroopna or United in a final is massive. Playing against good opposition who are fighting for the same position you are is probably as close to finals footy as you are going to get. If and its a big if you can get through those games you are going to be a lot better prepared for finals footy imo.

A good concise summary here "watch it all". As so often has been the case, injuries, form and the final positions in the 6 will be huge factors. Can't help feel that Rochy in Sept will be very dangerous. Uniteds win over Mooropona well may see them be installed as current favourites. Echuca's run home will see them finish in the top 2 after that it will be hard to forecast. Without doubt this is the most open premiership in a long time. Roll on Sept.

Then another Swans bloke tryed to settle him and he let a big outburst go about 'dont f&^%ing touch me'. Was like a bubbling volcano about to erupt.

I see that Bernie Haberman has agreed to coach the lions in 2011.

This season has been a great one TP! The top 9 sides have been able to beat any team on their day. If you ever wanted a year with the AFL final 8 format, this would be it!

SOUTHERN Football League team the Doveton Eagles have been disqualified from the competition after repeated complaints about the abusive behaviour of their senior coach.

The Eagles will not be allowed to participate in the league for the rest of the 2010 season.

Eagles’ coach Barry Giddens, who actually had his coaching accreditation revoked earlier in the year, was warned several times by the SFL for his threatening behaviour towards umpires and was even suspended by the league for three weeks in May.

He was also directed to take part in an education program with umpires and coaches.

However, the Eagles refused to allow Giddens to undertake the penalty or complete the program, which saw the matter referred to AFL Victoria.

It was then he was revoked as a coach. On July 10, an umpire reported Giddens was still coaching the Eagles during the quarter-time and three quarter-time breaks of a game.

Under the SFL by-laws, the penalties for allowing a non-accredited person to coach include disqualification of the club from the competition.

SFL CEO Wayne Holdsworth said the decision was hard to make but was in line with the league’s support of the AFL’s ‘Umpiring is Everyone’s Business’ program.

“Doveton Eagles and its coach have been given repeated warnings and sanctioned by the league yet they continued to ignore them,” he said.

“As a league, we will not tolerate constant abuse and intimidation of our umpires by a senior coach.

“Umpires deserve to be treated with respect by all players, coaches, officials and spectators and we have a responsibility to protect them and ensure they remain an integral part of the game.”

AFL general manager football operations Adrian Anderson said the AFL fully supported the SFL for its strong stance.

Now that is excellent from the board of that league. Warnings hve been given, warnings were ignored and now action has been taken. Cannot ask for more than that
