Heard an interesting stat from the Ky vs Tat game, out of something like 18 1v1 contest's between Wall and Morgan after half time Wall only won 4 with Morgan winning 14. For a bloke to dominate an ex vfl player like that just shows his quality, probably the best defender in the league since he has been back at Kyabram.

Morgan is a gun, no doubt about it, but didn't Wall kick 5 goals on him in the second half? Not sure this can be considered 'dominating' him. A win in a one on one situation for a defender is to not let his opponent mark it. This is a lot easier than what the forward has to do and actually mark it. If Wall gets dominated every week and kicks 5 goals in a half every week I think Tat will probably cop that.

Good win by the Swannies yesterday, some of there young kids played really well as well as there new recruits in a good team effort. Lewis for Mooroopna is a very athletic player who will trouble a lot of sides

Isn't Morgan an ex AFLorVFL player too? He is the best defender in the league, but I am a big fan of O'Keefe from Seymour too....As I said, it was the best dual of the afternoon and he was probably BOG in the first half which is why Wall went deep forward to repel his influence of rebounding from CHB in the second half. Your 1v1 stat is a good one which why Morgan still was arguably their best player for the day. Waite holding Newman to only one second half goal could have been due to a bigger influence by Tat midfield stopping supply...not sure of the I50 stats to confirm this or not. But for Waite to do that on Newman could even be classed as a better defensive effort.

Why did the GVFL change the thirds to start at 10:30am from 10am, with no reduction of qtr length and think the reserves could then start only 15mins later at 12:15pm. Then think that they would still finish by 2pm as per last year, but also with no reduction of qtr length?
Because they started the thirds 30mins later, the ressies didn't start until 30mins later (not 15mins) and the seniors should have started just after 2:30pm, but due to the unfurling of flag and pre match speach and silent period for the late P. Kerrins, the seniors didn't start until around 2:40pm. They didn't finish until 5:10pm! Way later than any finish time last season.....not all grounds have good enough lights to finish this late for games in June :(

I agree that they can't possibly make up 30 minutes without shortening the games. But the Senior games have been finishing very early last year. I'm happy with the seniors starting around 2:15, but no later in winter.

I don't know where you got your stats from but as an outsider watching in Morgan was very good in the first half would have been best on by a country mile although mostly from zoning off and being 3rd man up. In second half when he had to play 1 on 1 with Wall he was beaten quite easily in the airial contests. And 5 goals in a half of footy you would class as a win wouldn't you think?

Did anyone catch the gvfl footy show episode 2?
Couldn't squeeze in the wrap up of the Echuca and rochy game? I guess one of the biggest rivalries in country footy still can't get a gig in this shep orientated league. Was a cracker of a game aswell! I know rochy had a couple of important players out but if Echuca hadn't of lost Buckley after half time the result may have been different.

So what's every bodies tips for the weekend? I'll go

I'm surprised no one has brought this clearance up yet. Rochester have now recruited a gun ruckman. Last piece of the puzzle and apparently this bloke was premiership ruckman for St Mary's in the NTFL. If they get the whole team on the park on the same day should be worth a look......;)

Good fella big 'sauce' and did play a very good game in the NTFL GF this year for St Marys against Tiwi Bombers. He also played in NT Thunder's NEAFL premiership in 2011. Gets around the ground pretty well and reads the play well.

Hey mate, is he a tap ruckman or a "I want to eat your children" ruckman?

Tavis you don't seem to confident in Ryan Smith Rochys new Ruckman? Have heard a few reports and one is he is not the toughest bloke going around? Is this true?

No, retired from all footy at the end of the NTFL season, now an assistant coach at thunder.

To answer bradrowe's question, there won't be any children eating going on, not saying he's soft, but he's not one of those ruckman who will have a massive physical presence or intimidate anyone.

To answer countryboy's question, there's nothing to say he won't perform really well for Rochy, and if nothing else, he'll get plenty of opportunity to establish himself as their number 1 ruckman.

By all reports he didn't set the world on fire at St Arnaud, who were a top side in a league I imagine would be well below GV. In saying that he is a good player at NTFL level and is a premiership state league ruck man and there aren't many of them going around.

I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes and hope he tears it up. Don't worry, he's quite mobile and is a good mark and kicks well, but the calibre of ruck men in the NTFL is a long way off GV IMO.

Yeah the NTFL is definitely a comp dominated by the small men isn't it Tav. The last time I spoke to Smithy he said that he wasn't playing any footy down south this year so not sure how many games he'll be able to commit for at Rochester.

Tatura 25.14.164 def Echuca 11.4.70
Did not expect that after seeing the close scores of Rochy v Echuca last week.
Very unfortunate dislocated shoulder injury to Echuca's captain Prendagast, hope he recovers well because they are going to struggle without his height in the backline against most teams.
Maybe Rochy didn't have as many talls up forward as Tat did today? The 4 tall forwards of Tat kicked 16 between them: Grigg kicked 5 in the first half before going off with leg muscle injury I think (didn't see it). Waite kicked 5, Wall 4 and Lovel 2. The smalls: Hicks kicked 4 and Corey Mallon 2. I thought Echuca's best was probably Pollock. For us Owen.
Now looking forward to the big match against Rochy next week.

Disappointing that ppl in footy clubs bend the truth to suit there own needs. Clubs better off without them but they are normally protected species for some reason. Karma always get you.

Saw the big fella in action today at Moon Oval. Would have been in the best 3 for Rochy. Good hands and as stated, moves well. Hopefully have McLinden next week which would be handy. Thought Bowen played a good game on Newman. Cuttriss had a field day for 3 quarters kicking 6, not bad return for small forward before injuring his shoulder. Big test next week.

The Ruckman was second best apparently. Moved alright

I think the draw format change for this year has been good so far....with the same groups of 4 playing each other first up, by about round 6 we should get a good idea of the best teams. If Tat v Rochy is a close one like it should be and Swans v United and Benalla v Mansfield is also, we will get a good insight with upcoming matches in round 4 like Swans v Seymour, Tatura v Benalla, Mansfield v Kyabram and in round 5 there is Rochy v Swans, United v Mansfield, Seymour v Tatura.
Lets hope that these games are close results, as it will throw the competition right open and mean this season will be a cracker!
The down side will be if Seymour (should be 3-0 after this week), loses to Swans and Tat by around 10 goals and the same for Mansfield to Kyabram and United. You then couldn't expect any of the four eastern/southern teams to be challengers for the top 6. Add those 4 clubs to Bears and Echuca for the bottom 6, will leave the top 6 between Tatura, Rochester, Kyabram from the Western/Northern clubs and Swans, United and Mooroopna from the central clubs. The advantage to Seymour then will be if they can snag at least two wins against these 6 and defeat Benalla, Euroa and Mansfield again at the end of the season, as well as defeat Bears and Echuca twice in the middle. That could be a return of 10 win and 8 loss record and find them in the 6. We all remember what damage they did last year from 6th spot with 9 and 9 return for the season....

Won't do the same damage this year-no Wheeler and co who came back from Melbourne for the finals. Top 6 look like Tat, Rochy, United, Swans, Ky and Mooroopna IMO
