Hearing that the umpiring at the Benalla v Seymour game was suspect at the weekend. At least one Seymour local umpiring the main game (could be wrong) - and Saad getting some contentious free kicks. Obviously Saad's quality is unquestionable, but does anyone else think that he gets some frees that perhaps other players wouldn't get because of his notoriety in the league?
Also, if it's true that a Seymour local was umpiring the senior game, surely the league has to look at umpires who dont have any affiliations to either side umpiring the games??

If majority of umpires come from Shepparton will there be complaints every game Benalla plays against Shep Sides also?
Surely they weren't as bad as the "don't touch Roughead" Hawthorn umpires yesterday  ... oh well at least if Harry gets rubbed out, that will be the end of the dodgy 2013 sliding rule......what a joke.

Witnessed a great game of Football yesterday Shepparton United Vs Mooroopna, this rivalry is unmatched in the GVFL, Mooroopna were awesome for 3 quareters than United as they have done on a number of occasions got over the line with Eagle and Tim Looby playing a staring role

Doubt it. The United-Mooroopna is obviously steeped in tradition, there are plenty of other good ones like Euroa-Seymour, Echuca-Rochester, Echuca-Kyabram, Tatura-United and Tatura-Rochester.

There's definitely other good ones but United Vs Mooroopna is by far the biggest and best

This rivalry has been going a good 30 years since the 80's when Garry Cooper crossed from one to the other. The only reason Rochester started a football club was initially for the sole purpose of beating Echuca at the game of football................only over a hundred years ago. Do some research as its embarrassing reading dribble.
History lesson no charge(this time)

I agree with your comments about Rochy V Echuca but if you go back a bit further Gary Cooper was at Tat where he started his GV career.

The league is full of rivalries, every club would have one and whether its 100 years old or 10 years it is all relevant to that particular club. I can vouch for the 3 Shepparton sides having strong rivalries that go back a long way and they hate to lose to each other. The Swans and United tomorrow will no doubt be a cracker between two great rivals.

Went to Rochy v Tatura today. Tat by 31 points at the end. Tatura smashed Rochy around the ball and kicked early goals, leading by 5 goals at quarter time. Kirby and co were dominant. Rochy made some headway in next 3 quarters but couldn't bridge the gap. Thought Gledhill did an excellent job on Wall. Kirby again showed why he is such a good player. Not taking away anything from Smith, tried hard, but he was shown the benchmark today. Hopefully Rochy can roll them later in the year!

Gled's is really starting to believe in himself.

BRAD Henderson has signed with Shepparton United.
from the border mail

Hendo's a great story; started at waaia & then had a crack at O&M with yarra, working his way from an enigmatic forward in the 2's to becoming one of the best defenders in the league. In fact, before last years O&M grand final the border mail named him yarra's best player across their previous 3 GF's. He had a sensational year for southern districts up here in the NTFL 2011/12 & is one of the best blokes I've met in footy.

He was rumoured to play just for petrol money at yarra, so one of the best value for money recruits in country vic, will be a great pick up for the dees.

United were to good on Saturday, they dominated the second half with there spread from stoppages and bigger bodies. Certainly one of the teams to beat this year. The Swans will need to find a few different avenues to goal as to much is being left to the smaller players up forward.

interested reading Shepp News that Tat have 3-4 out from next week with injuries and unavailable. This will be an interesting few weeks as I dont think Tat have anywhere near the depth they had last year running around in the two's to bring up. Definitely a team to beat but take 4-5 quality out of any side and changes the team dramatically. interesting next few weeks against Benalla,Seymour and United. Understand there is a split round break but hamstrings and scaffoid dont heal quickly depending how bad they are.

Correct GG...not as much depth as last year... Hopefully the few that are out will be back after the split round and only miss this week v Benalla.

Looks like United is emerging as the team to beat at this stage?

I dont think Tatura have done anything wrong yet to suggest they cant go back to back. United and the rest need to make up 6-7 goals from last year yet. Only achilles heal I see is injuries and depth for Tatura.
Spot on GG... the next few rounds will tell how all teams are travelling when they play against other teams outside of their geographical zones.... We have Benalla, Seymour, United, Mooroopna, Swans over the next 5 weeks which will give a good indication of how we are travelling. With how those 5 teams have recruited and started their season I would be very happy with we can get at least a 4-1 return. Less than that would make me think this season is going to be a cracker!

Love listening to Greg Sharp call the footy, but had a chuckle aftermatch when they asked the guy Swindon (kicked 6) how does that feel ..... his response "F**king awesome, ha ha love it!!!
