You just proved my point...he's not a local (in a football context) as such....therefore Echuca haven't lost a heap of players to Ky. These guys aren't considered locals (Axel Excluded). Playing injured to collect match payments could be considered....well...dishonest if your trying to tell me to feel sorry for him. Bet he didn't give any match payments back when he played injured if that is what your telling me.

I'll ask you a couple of questions. If he wanted to play with his mates....why didn'y he ask them to come play with him at Echuca ????? He was paid unders according to you.....according to me he played ordinary for the year even when playing for unders . Briggs is a personal friend and hopes for him to come back....don't think i mentioned anything about this...of course Briggs is going to tell the press what they want to hear....not bag a bloke in public. All i know is that Players at Echuca who held him in high regard (and the supporters) have been extreemly dissapointed in him moving. He was paid very well to my understanding, so when your paid good money i would think that having lived in the town/s and have his number 1 fan Dad come across and watch from moama each week that he could have tried to entice "his Mates" to come to Echuca. Not sure they guys (Axel excluded) would be welcomed back by the players anyway. He (williams) had a chance to help try and re-build the club and he walked. Soft in my book.
PS....didn't finish that high in the Best and Fairest to warrant any extra coin if that was what he was after. I also know Jordan and think in this case he has made a pretty ordinary decision. That's my opinion.
How are you Dickey....your opinion and you are entitled to it....even tough it is factual bullshit....and slanderous..".left because he didn't like the coach".....who is soft......move on . it's a game of footy and you are not Carro Wilson

Truth Hurts !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolute legend of the club! Has played for **** all money his whole life and after this year both parties agreed maybe he wasn't up to playin in the midfield at gv level anymore. Champion player thou!

Why does that mean he moves on.
In my eyes he could slot back into the back line and be a general back there.
To me he is an ideal lock down player in the back half.

Stepping down a league doesn't make the other onballers any slower

I could learn to coach based on this logic. I'll play every slow player in the backline and when the ball is kicked to space to run onto for the opposition forwards I'll have to come up with another plan.
Can you use your runner to tackle or fill space?
get back to me can you.
I think the logic is the ball movement isnt as quick and the spread is slower when the ball moves out of the area which would suit someone who can read the play. Only guessing though as I have no idea.......really.

lock down on who? The average forward line usually consist of 3 taller players(dont think deano could play on them). 1 genuine small forward(dont think deano would have the leg pace) and 1 -2 midfielders swapping through(so match ups begin to become hard and not usually players u lock down on) sorry I love the bloke but couldnt see him playin down back and as GG stated I think u need to watch more country footy if u believe change in pace doesnt occur throughout different leagues.

I have heard that moon cannot be guaranteed a senior game every week, and isn't too keen on playing twos just yet. so understandably, has looked elsewhere

I understand the above and all the other comments on what he can do and not do,

I suppose I'm still stuck in the old days when there was some notion of being a one club player.

Best of luck to him

Agree mate..one issue is the amount of kids that stop playing. There are kids that are not good enough/or don't get opportunities to improve and those that are good that have huge pressure placed on them to make the grade-both groups lose interest!. Last year there were only 30 'kids' drafted from the TAC so the odds of making it are pretty slim so the dream is often over before it begins! Couple that in with Uni, work and lack of opportunity in country areas and we have major issues. Personally..I think many leagues have fallen away compared to 15-20 years ago.

Over at Wanganui tonight close to one hundred kids were at footy training (2nd week at least). I'm guessing that it's TAC Cup related. In their own minds (or their parents) they're the ones that are going to be drafted down the track. While these kids are doing this what aren't they doing - social tennis? Too tired for cricket? Homework, heaven forbid? The burnout and dis-interest is beginning earlier and earlier. If there was no training until mid January, I wonder how many of these kids would be truly self motivated enough to go for a run and a kick of their own volition.

Think it was the U15 school boys Woody

Is country footy becoming well beyond the means of a lot of clubs? Heard on grapevine that one PDFL has enticed a player from the GVFL with $800 game. Why would a player leave an up and coming side who played finals this year and are one of the teams everyone is expecting to finish top 4 next year to play a lower league. Everyone will say its the coin and it obviously is, but clubs throw money around for a year or two, doesn't always win a flag and then have to scrap the barrel for a few years before they have another dip. Clubs are folding or merging everywhere in Victoria. Is it time for a salary cap? Understand it would be very difficult to police but something has to be done. Also heard Rumba have 20-25 contracted players now that is joke!

A salary cap is virtually impossible to police.I thought that the VCFL were to introduce a points system to limit club spending. Such systems although not a perfect solution do limit club spending and encourage clubs to rely on the local product.

They do not limit club spending. If you look at the CMFL as an example I think you would find that spending has increased

Very hard to police what clubs spend.

How about if league fees were $50,000 & $100,000 in major leagues, that would mean clubs have less to spend on players.
On the priviso that the league uses the money wisely, upgrade facilities, ground surfaces, supply footballs & umpires.
Just an idea?

why would clubs want to make a league rich and reduce the standard at the same time? Most of the facilities are community owned through councils and rates pay for upkeep and fees already pay for umpires and anything else the league want to enforce. Money comes and goes as does the position on the ladder of most teams. It all evens itself out eventually and it isnt broke so just leave it.
