Where is the evidence that shows the swans would not be in this position if there was no caps or points system in place. They played with 33 points yesterday out of a possible 44. If the points system was stopping them
From improving wouldn't they be at the maximum points each Saturday?
I'm of the same view that there is too many clubs in the gv area. There simply aren't enough good players around anymore to allow everyone to be competitive.
I'm not a fan of the new system but I'm getting tired of people using it as the only issue in country footy. It starts with good leadership and admistration at club level in my opinion. Look at how it has improved Echuca!!

Agree, good admin and coaching help big time, Also too many clubs as you say. The argument I make is that the points system makes no difference so why the need for it! It won't save clubs.

It won't save clubs as you say ringo but what will save clubs?

As I said last night...those Shepparton based clubs need to have a serious look at mergers and I think most country clubs do in fact

Thats my point mate...why have it in place when it changes nothing?..waste of time. The three bottom sides of the GV will be the bottom 3 again next year.

Enough good players locally or not as many travellers as there has been in the past ? Shepparton I would assume is more than twice the population it has been in the past when clubs have been fine.
The success of clubs fluctuate, focus needs to be on increasing people playing the game at open age level .

There is not the same amount of blokes playing footy like the glory days though...huge attitude change is required at club level

Mate 5-6 years ago is a long time. Why are we promoting the points system as a saviour. Under the current jurisdiction the bottom sides will remain on the bottom and the top team will win the premiership. Is it good for the league to have a team register 1 point and for another side to remain undefeated since September 2015? I understand the culture of clubs on the
bottom can be questionable. I'd love to know what Paul Hawke thinks of it all![/QUOTE]

Have heard that Paul has been very good. Understands the position that they are in, watches and talks to the juniors,
gives them feedback but most importantly let’s them know how to improve.
Have also heard that they have a number of past players returning next year.

What is the cap for gvfl ?
And who would spend it ?

When the Melb leagues have a higher salary cap than the GVL, why would Melb based players come to the country anymore, when there is easy cash at their doorstep... AFLVIC gshould make the country caps higher than metro to entice the Melb players to travel to the country again. With higher amount of players in Metro areas, this would only help the struggling clubs to climb the ladder. If the GVL is the premier league in the area, cap the salary at say $250k plus, then the other leagues in the area fall under that, this would stop juniors leaving to the lesser leagues on stupid money... I can already hear people say if more decent players come from Melb would leave no money for the juniors, well if clubs cant get name players from Melb, then the juniors have better players to look up to and want to stay at the clubs. We saw the poor clubs are struggling, unless you are on the committee of say the Swans or Mooroopna, we have no idea how they are going finacially, I would dare say Mooroopna would be well off, first two weeks of jnr finals revenue, KDFNL GF, they have good sponsors as do Swans... Someone from AFLVIc needs to step in or Country Footy will be alot worse in 20 yrs...

Believe in some areas salary cap consession is given to 1 pointers.
Being that a certain % or all of the 1 pointers payment sits outside the cap or a certain travel component sits outside the cap and IMO it has some merit.
Shepp Swans in particular have some cracking good leaders involved in their club and if there is a way, I'd be surprised if they don't find it to improve.

They are in good hands with Paul. I hope he gets fully supported over an extended period of time and this provides some continuity and stability in the coaching role at Swans. A rebuild takes a lot of patience, energy and a shared vision. The Swan will need to stay energised and in this day and age with the points and cap there will be no rapid turn around. It may well take 3 to 4 years to obtain competitive consistency. Really hope they can bounce back.

Agree totally Scribe, under the current set of rules it is going to be a long journey. Nevertheless they do have the right man for the job.

To allow night games as close as possible to the winter solstice.:p:D
Yer not sure what the thinking is but they do seem to drag out the season. They have a staggered start, a couple of split rounds and a general bye. Not sure that it does anything other then fill the calendar between the start of the year and the need they have to finish on the traditional Sunday each year. Wouldn’t the players all just want a general bye instead of a split round. Yep I have no idea what the rationale is for this.
