Fair enough but If you are getting paid then the expectation would be that you are professional in all aspects
Of your time at the club.

One player on $1000 a game
One player on $150 a game.

There’s a difference. One can’t be as professional as he might have to work a 40 hr week to survive outside footy.

What you say would’ve been accurate 20 years ago.

These days, clubs will pay you regardless of your professionalism. And if one club doesn’t, another one will!

Do clubs need to think outside the box a little these days, especially for players in their 30s to entice them.
Allowing them to go on a mid season holiday to bali and freshen up in june/july for example. Could a pettifer just play home games + finals and get another 2-3 years playing

I know a few clubs recruiting blokes on certain number per season deals already old mate.

I also am aware it is happening but it sucks and goes against why football clubs should exist.
I agree about the recruiting of blokes on that basis Roar but someone mentioned Pettifer earlier in relation to this conversation. If Kyabram could negotiate an arrangement whereby he only played home games and finals (as suggested by an earlier poster) that would be good for Kyabram, Pettifer and country footy.

Not sure why the knock on Daniels from you scribe. You’re the one that first commented on the Murray league thread that Daniels and White were offered the numurkah job as co coaches so you obviously had some intel. This was heavily thrown around on Saturday night as where jamo was going. Asked white and he said numurkah had offered him and jamo the job as co coaches but in the end they knocked the job back. Obviously some knocks on jamo as coach and I agree it was time for us to get a knew coach (not the way it was done) but coaching for 5 years as a young bloke or any coach for that amount of time people are going to have a crack at you or not like things you’ve had to do or make calls on. Like a few have eluded, he hasn’t done anything near as bad as what Harrop did at shepp...
Apologies if my post misrepresented my views on Daniels. I was only passing on the information I had been given. If this was rumour, gossip or factual, well that’s for each of us to decide. Personally I have no knock on Daniels, I’ve never played with him, been coached by him or even spoken to the bloke. I’ve watched him play and rate him a high quality player. Obviously there were reasons why he left Swans, Gold Coast and now Tatura. In reality probably only a handful of people know what actually transpired. All the best to Daniels where ever he lands.

I respectfully disagree , if he cant committ to playing every week give the spot to a kid who potentially would otherwise move to an outlying club for an opportunity or due to being moved in and out of the team.

I dont believe its a question of commitment, its about giving older guys the best chance of getting through a complete season. It really depends on where your club sits, if you are competing for a premiership than this is a smart man management theory. Kids get a taste of playing senior footy in a very good side with an eye to having your best team on the park in September. If you are mid table than you might want to play the younger guys as much as you can. I dont think there is a wrong or right it really is up to the coaches of each club, there are pros and cons to doing it.

I think those days are gone for country footy sorry roar, especially sides over an hour from melbourne or in geelong, where theres no pressure for a spot.

Theres already dwindling interest to coach in t h e country, with clubs probably requiring to provide outside the box incentives to drive up the highway and play footy, or even come back home and play

Only those that are set on winning and being perceived as being professional . Those who are judging success on their ability to be a hub for their local community are thriving . Families openingly admitting to a club president that if it wasnt for their footy club the father or mother of the family would have committed suicide is confronting , but more fullfiling than premierships or someone paying a compliment because the players were wearing nice dress pants.

Clubs shouldnt exist IMO for older players ,regardless of their ability , to continue to play at a specific level.

Clubs should exist for all types of player regardless of age and talent. Clubs always have a duty to look after their young talent but their is no guarantee that the young talent will repay that faith. More and more these days the younger generation are jumping out of the big leagues chasing the financial gains on offer in minor leagues. If older guys want to show loyalty and they are still good enough than I think clubs would be mad to turn them away.
Would Tatura take 12 games a year from Linc Wellington, you bet they would, same as Rochy with Ash Watson.

Young kids leaving for dough or greater opportunity ??
Speak to either side and you get a different answer, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle

I don’t want an Ash or Linc coming in and out all year. I want players that can play 18 games a yr. Its meant to be an elite Comp. Part timers should be able to just drop into games. It’s not the NTFL
