I think they will be be in that 5th-7th slot with Mooroopna and Mansfield Trent. The top four will be very difficult to crack come finals from 5th-6th on the ladder.

Had they held on to both Austin and Jansen I might have been more confiden

Believe Jansen will still play for rochy early on! Yet still might be staying in vic.

When the gv was the premier comp in Victoria, below vfl, let's say 04-10 timeframe, how many guys lived locally in the town compared with todays teams
I see we have all become very old over night!
Hey guys,
What are all these badges Big Footy are awarding to posters? Does it mean you are helpful, old, insipid, argumentative or am I missing something ....?
I think it means how cooked you are by the amount of badges Tongue.

You have had the same badge appear on your posts mate. You veteran you! How is the coaching going mate? Can you send a 6'6 ruckman Rochy's way?
Hahaha yah mate I saw that. Flat out atm but only a week of Pre Season to go and then we are into the Practice Matches thank God! Haha, yeah mate they are hard to come by and if we didn't have Benalla product Tom Downie we'd be in the same boat!

Ex Benalla/St Patrick's College basketballer prior to his AFL journey. Fabulous young man and great to see him back playing footy.

Apparently a meeting being held in Benalla later in the week to ascertain the ability of the club to field a team in 2022. The decision will have major implications for the town and obviously the GV moving forward.
What’s happened there mate ? They played off in 2014 won it in 2015 made finals in 16, 17, 18. Just missing finals the last couple of years population of nearly 10,000 I just don’t get it

Not really sure. Have produced some terrific players and a number of AFL/VFL locals. Having two teams in the town could be having an impact. Prior to joining the GV the struggle was huge for them in the O&M but this has been a rapid decline. After the 2015 season many players left to play at a higher level. Names such as Martyn, Nick Mellington, and the Priests coupled with retirements and player movement have made it difficult. Retention of junior players is a challenge being felt across the state. There needs to be a working party that provides real outcomes established in relation to retention levels. I understand there are other choices these days but. Junior Football needs to become more inclusive, better resourced and better coached and the Academies finished up as a starting point.

Hate to sound like a broken record Swoop but losing their junior comp was never going to help.
In 2009, Benalla and District Junior Football League had 4 x u12 , 6 x u14 and 6 x u17 teams .

Saw on Facebook this morning Benalla are promoting one of the Marchbank is returning this season. That’s a huge positive for them.

Handy ruckman thats for sure. Sounds like lots of hit outs to no gun midfielders???

Gets tough when you get 5 or 6 injuries though
For sure what I was getting at is they probably already have enough to field a senior team which would see them get through the Season. Hopefully they are able to get enough together for all teams. I'd say there could be more forfeits in the GV 2s this year than ever before with more Benalla having cause for concern.

The 'twos' used to be the fabric of clubs, organising social events, supporting the ones and usually full of great blokes. Every club usually had a 'cult' type figure or two running around in the early game. Can remember the local priest turning out for the Lions on occasions. The decline in participants is a real concern. The AFL will bang on about record numbers but in reality its becoming apparent that players over the age of 17-22 are diminishing rapidly.
