Moama will go to the Bendigo League. They will do so with the view Echuca will follow for there 150th year next year. Back where it started. These two teams will help the Bendigo league “get better” along with a restructure of the League and its administrators. You can take that to the bank.

There is no way Echuca are going back to the Bendigo league

It’s the only way Moama would consider going to BFL and yes I’ve heard Echuca have had significant interest , but that was previous to the last few months and events within the BFL .

You must bank with Pyramid, then ...

You on the committee there?
No but a committee of people has been set up and been going for a while (approx 6 months) looking at the viability of both clubs (Moama and Echuca) leaving. They are representatives from both clubs with a couple of independent people with no connections to either clubs. My understanding is the main focus at the moment is the junior parts of each club and where they are best suited to play. I believe Bendigo is the winner in the first instance. Secondly the senior parts of each club (football and netball) is beginning to be looked at very closely. No formal decision made yet with plenty yet to discuss. Leaning towards Bendigo is the mail thus far apparently. Guess we will wait and see how it unfolds.

Juniors travelling for up to an hour and a half each way for a game over the border and into the southern half of the state.
The parents will loooooooove that at $60-$70 in petrol for the round trip!
Echuca United might be the big winners in that decision.
There's still plenty of travel to Mansfield too, if they stick to the gv. I'm not sure where and how far juniors travel, but with less and less teams, equates to greater travel. The north west part of the state have been doing it for decades, I'm surprised the afl never thought to buy hay football club 2 buses for their dedication to play footy and netball

They do this now in the Shepp comp and travel even further. Eg…Alexandra, Euroa etc….no more travel than there is now. The southern part of the state being Moama is approx 1 minute drive from Echuca so not sure of your point there . Both Moama and Echuca are aligned to the pioneers so some do it now. Think the travel argument doesn’t stack up here. Shepp to Echuca is approx 50 mins and Echuca to Bendigo is maybe 10 mins more…,add another minute to go to Moama each way !!!! Bendigo junior football league is far better run that the shit show Goulburn Murray and Campaspe comps…..ask Rochester.

I cannot see one positive in Echuca moving back to the BFL. The club would collect flags at will, demolish sides like K Flat and South Bendigo, win the GF by a huge margin and play in a lesser standard of football. You would need to pay overtime to the timekeepers when Broadford venture up to Vic Park. I would be all for it if the club was going up in standard.

They should get the vfl license, and just play 3rds and reserves in the gv

Absolutely spot on mate this is not the first time this has been brought up on here that Echuca are looking at joining the crap struggling BFL.Why when they are accumulating flag after flag lst seconds and 3rds in a far superior league, makes no sense whatsoever

It might all come down to what league gets its act together the quickest.
GV is in a massive hole financially versus the Bendigo with its well documented problems inc the bizarre call to take on Broadford.
A new BFNL off-field set up and dumping the Broadford thingy might put them in the box seat.

Same timekeepers are at Echuca games at the moment. Most recently last years grand final. All clubs are cyclical and Echuca’s dominance will decrease over time. This might just be the kick up the arse some Bendigo clubs need to lift there game. Improve the running of the league, increase the salary cap to give current Bendigo clubs more ability to recruit out of Melbourne (increase cap to GV levels) and increase better junior participation. There’s a few pointers that are a good starting point. The GV are on a spiral that I don’t think is much different to the current Bendigo.

I think there is a considerable difference between the two. The GV has not lost 2 clubs , has the ability to take on another club or two e.g Moama or even a Cobram etc. The cap can be increased but when there are clubs blatantly cheating it whats the point? The incidence of Melbourne based players returnng to bush football is diminishing yearly. The major concern for the BFL is that its the same 4 teams in the finals every year. The minnows have little to no hope. Echuca would demolish some of thse teams. And then there is Broadford!

Don’t disagree with those points but I think geographical wise it works. The comp after that will sort itself out over time.

All Moama U16 Junior games agianst Yea, Broadford, Alexandra were all played at a Netural Venue in Shepparton to stop long distance last year. That was an argeement between clubs and the league.

Leithville Gunbower under 14's play some games at Tatura Park.

Echuca u16 had one game last year against Alexandra and did not want to play at a the netural venue so play at Vic Park so the Alex players and Parents had to travel 2hour 15 mins to play a game.

My Opinion is that the Junior League are happy to help out any club in the league due to distance factor but sounds like Echuca either does not want to co-operate with the league or think they are above the league which is not.

It’s unsustainable and Echuca know it .

Argee. I will be disappointed if they do go but I think the loser out of the switch is Echuca or who ever is goes to the BFL.

If it was a 100m sprint race, GVL are at the 90m mark of the race while BFL are still stuck in the starting blocks. BFL have a got a long way to catch up.

There's still sandhurst, Gisborne, square and strath all well run clubs, that would provide Echuca competition. Gisborne are a power club, they haven't left yet, so maybe the league isn't as bad as some suggest. Everyone knows broadford will never get up, I'd think the Calder lions will play bfl in 3-5 years so there's growth. I'd think any league would want an Echuca in their league, what would the gv look like without them? Much like Bendigo without Gisborne
