Hey guys just wondering if any rochester boys can tell me how a bloke by the name of danny ponting goes as a footballer?? cheers:thumbsu:
I'm not from Rochester but I can tell you a bit about Danny. The young bloke goes pretty well. Has had a bit of trouble over the years in his personal life but can play footy. Played most of 2008 with Rochy's two's, but did make an appearance in the seniors once or twice. About 185cm tall, pretty quick, plays up forward and can kick a goal. Lightly built but uses his speed to his advantage.

Cheers mate yeh he played in an intra club game that i seen and he was very flashy using his pace around goals i think he was just short of a run with a few kicks slewin to the side but will be very handy addittion!!!:thumbsu:

I don't think that you can read much into it-plenty of Magpies out. Why would Rochester play a side plenty of rungs below them???
Considering the weather, I thought the Tatura v Wang Magpies game was pretty good standard. Tatura did have probably 4 or 5 players out including Isailovic and Cosgriff. The Wang boys told me they had probably 6 or 7 out including Hopper McCormick. So all in all I think both teams had a good day. Wang Thirds won by 1 pt, and their ressies won by around 50 pts. Well done to see Wang able to bring over 3 teams for the day!:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Yeah it is good to see-personally don't like 6 1/4 games and best of all a resurgent Tatura will be good forn the league:thumbsu:

Carlile to help Pies ease pain
Euroa's off-season exodus has been slightly tempered with the signing of Rob Carlile for the Goulburn Valley Football League season.

Carlile, the brother Port Adelaide defender Alipate, joins the Magpies from Ovens and King league Milawa, where he spent the past three seasons.

He spent his junior career playing for Wangaratta Rovers in the Ovens and Murray competition.

Euroa coach David Putamorsi works with Carlile, which proved the link to him joining the club.

``Rob's a good size athlete like his brother (Alipate) and is good pick-up for us,'' Putamorsi said.

Euroa has suffered the most of any GVFL club during the off-season with the departures of last year's century goalkicker and best and fairest Mark Jansz, star midfielder Shane Clayton, Hayden Lamaro and indigenous Darwin duo Relton Roberts and Rowan Bonson, to name a few.

The Magpies have struggled to recruit to cover what they lost, with Carlile adding to the earlier signings of Hayden Buckley, Pat Horsburgh and Adam Brayshaw. Fred Cameron has also returned.
Good to see Pat Horsburgh going up a league. Be interesting to see if Fred gets himself fit. He could go some of the way of filling Jansz's shoes.

Hockey's a big cat now
It's taken the best part of five months, but Ash Hockey appears to have finally decided on his football playing future for this season.
Hockey has backflipped on his return to his hometown club Mooroopna and opted to play for Murray Football League side Cobram.
His signing with the Tigers ends months of trying to establish where he would play this year.
The 20-year-old and fellow Mooroopna youngster Simon Russell originally joined Queensland AFL club Broadbeach in November but Hockey returned home in February due to a lack of job opportunities on the Gold Coast.
Hockey was to continue playing for Mooroopna this year, lining up in the Cats' practice match against Wangaratta less than a fortnight ago, but instead signed a one-year contract to play for Cobram.
``It's good I've finally sorted out where I'm playing,'' Hockey said.
``I came home (from Queensland) and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do.
``I thought if I ever wanted to leave Mooroopna, now was the right time while I'm still young and I've got my best footy ahead of me.''
Hockey played in a practice match for Cobram against Riverina side Turvey Park last Friday.
``We went down but we played better as the match went on. It was good to have a run,'' Hockey said.
Hockey's close friend and former Mooroopna teammate James Marks joined Cobram early last month.
The pair will travel together from Mooroopna to train and play for Cobram.
Mooroopna coach Brad Campbell was disappointed to lose a player of Hockey's quality.
``It's hard to compete with those clubs that target young players and offer them big money,'' Campbell said.
``Everyone's welcome back. You get over these things pretty quickly. You can't take these sorts of things personally.''
Mooroopna president Greg Freer understood the reason behind Hockey's decision.
``It was a financial decision. He's going there on a good package and so is James Marks. Some people are earning more money having a kick of the footy than they do working,'' Freer said.
``There's no ill-feeling from the football club towards `Hock'. He's more than welcome to come back after he's had his year or however long somewhere else.''

Bears, Bulldogs warm up with wins

Shepparton unveiled its prized Wangaratta recruits for the first time in a practice match against Kyabram on Friday night.
Ed Clarke, Marc Lord and Matt Pell all played in the six-quarter match under lights at Kyabram Recreation Reserve, their first game since joining the Bears from two-time reigning Ovens and Murray Football League premier Wangaratta.
The trio played limited game time, but impressed Bears coach Richard Warburton.
``They only played a portion of the game, but you can see they're going to be good players for us,'' he said.
Shepparton's other key off-season signings, former Murray Bushranger John Walker and Nathalia triple-premiership player Brett Vallender, did not play the practice match.
Walker rolled his ankle at training a couple of weeks ago, while Vallender is still recovering from a leg injury sustained in a water skiing accident.
The injuries are unlikely to prevent either from missing the start of the regular season.
Kyabram fielded a relatively undermanned side, with All-Australian forward Paul Newman and gun on-baller Chris Atkins missing the match.
Shepparton played its senior side for the first three quarters against Kyabram, then swung the rotations in the final three terms to give everyone a run.
``We were a bit scratchy at the start but we picked up as the game went on,'' Warburton said.
``Our ball skills were scratchy early, but that's understandable as it was our first proper game of the year.''
Shepparton ended up winning the match by about five goals, but Warburton said the score was irrelevant.
``It wasn't about winning and losing, it was about getting the process right and working to our team plans and structures,'' Warburton said.
``It's a matter of making sure everyone is on the same page and knowing their role within the team to help us play the style of footy we want to play.''
Tatura showed it will improve this season with a surprise one-point victory against Wangaratta at Tatura on Saturday.
The Bulldogs were without recruit Ben Cosgriff and interleague midfielder Alex Isailovic, while Wangaratta was missing up to seven players from its best side, most notably star on-baller Jon McCormick.
Mooroopna went down by two goals to Eaglehawk, while Shepparton United was beaten by Golden Square.

Rochy did have a huge win on the weekend. Were missing over half a dozen players that would be senior regulars as well. I think it was more about just getting the boys out on the park and getting some confidence into everyone before having a couple of more serious hit outs in the next couple of weeks

yeah it will be interesting. tell him to give away those **** for good. i know last year he polled about 6th or so in the club votes at murchison. trained twice a week but kinda seemed as though his heart wasnt in it. wish him best of luck even though he is a traitor. lol.

S.Hart $1000 a game
N. Hart and S.Armstrong $600 each a game...not bad for being out of the game for 2 years:thumbsdown: How many lift passes does that buy....or chains for the trip through the snow!hmmmm

And how the fu*k would you know what they are getting paid?
It amazes me that people pull figures out there ar$e on here and it gets taken as gospel.
Unless you have been buried in the eagles books, you wouldn't have a clue LeftFoot.
I seriously doubt the club pays anywhere near what people would think.
Not that i have an idea.

Can confirm one of those blokes is on more than what he states there so I'd say his on the money....

Cant get over the fact that clubs are willing to pay such big dollars without players putting the score on the board first...look at Euroa one half descent season in 05 and still no flag, but then again they always seemed to fold come september...

I know Wilson personally and have spoken to him at length and he HAS NOT SIGNED AT COLBINNABIN??? In fact just been with him in the last few days-HE HAS NOT, I REPEAT NOT signed with Colbo. He would be a handy pick up for Echuca and they are a good chance of getting him if he returns!!!!

Have not seen Wilson's name in the transfer lists for Echuca or Colbo?? No one knows if he has decided to stay or go? Since you know him personally Lane Dog what is the go?
Also any new pick up's for Echuca?

Hard midfield defence type can do a job for you and or find his own ball. Not flashy but good solid player:thumbsu:
