the only falling point will be the fringe bushranger players like finnen and farren preist to name a couple will not be playing.
i think that although the two coaches are from seymour and shepp, you have to remember seymour won the flag last year and deserve a few players, also shepp have won a plethra of thirds premierships in the recent past.

im trying hard to work out the point your trying to make and i cnt find it. what has last years premiership got to do with the selection of this years side????

it has everything to do with anything you idiot.

geelong wins last years premiership. so of couse there going to have players in the best side the next year. same for gvfl.

no not the same for gvfl under 18s mate. you could say each team on average (not sure with seymour) loses half its team each year because they are too old so a premiership team from the previous season could be bottom of the ladder the next season

fair enough i no they lose half of there saide every year but they still have a lot of players from the premiership side this year so that meens they have a lot of good players, which is why they have players in the interleague side. that thoughour enough for ya mate haha?

i dont know seymour situation. but ur still wrong. winning a premiership in under 18s doesnt mean u will have good players left. just because these blokes played in premiership team doesnt mean they are good

I see the GV got beaten in the u/18 championships. 1 win 2 losses. Maybe the team could have done with a few Ky boys?

whos the idiot? where talking gvfl thirds not afl i think its a lil bit differnt mate.. the interlegue side is based on the best players of the present year not were they ended up on the ladder the previous year.. well doesnt matter know anyway interleagues over lets get on with it

of course i no gv footy isnt afl just putting forward a point. YOU IDIOT. doesnt meen its write and im only muckin around when i say im always right. still i have a point if it isnt entirely right.

Disappointing as I would have thought that GV Thirds would have got over Hamden and Ballarat at least, I would have thought O&M would have been favorites to beat GV.

was looking at weekend scores and see mooroopna only beat euroa by 10 goals. thought this should've been more. i also see that s. wilson got reported anyone know anything about this.

Under an injury cloud
Shepparton Swans forward Matt McCarty's season is on the line after a knee injury saw him leave a punishing Goulburn Valley Football League Grand Final replay at Seymour on Saturday.
Seymour did not escape the carnage either, set to lose ruckman Shane Schottner for next week's top-of-the-table clash with Mooroopna.
McCarty, with two goals to his name for the afternoon, stayed down in the third quarter in obvious distress after coming off worse for wear in a contest on the half-forward line.
McCarty's hands reached immediately for his right knee, the forward calm in the rooms as Swans and Seymour trainers made an initial assessment.
Swans trainers said after the match McCarty would likely undergo scans on his right knee tomorrow, not ruling out an anterior cruciate ligament injury as a possible diagnosis.
While the Swans suffered an immediate end to McCarty's day, Seymour's bench was a rotating treatment room in its 58-point win.
Coach Bernie Haberman was concussed in the opening minutes of the match, spending the majority of the first quarter on the bench.
Schottner made his way to the bench in the third quarter and did not return for the afternoon as he iced his left hamstring, while Joe Amad received treatment to his right hamstring in the third and final terms.
Seymour's Paul Ellis will likely require strapping or a splint on his right hand after rupturing a tendon in his middle figure during the game.
Ellis returned to the game with strapping on his hand in the third quarter but could need up to six weeks protecting the injury for it to heal.
Haberman said if Schottner was not fit in time for the Mooroopna game, the ladder position of the opposition would not tempt him to change his thinking on Schottner's inclusion.
``We won't play him injured because it's not worth the long-term risk,'' Haberman said.


Season over for Stevo
Seymour forward Luke Stevenson is out for the rest of the Goulburn Valley Football League season after further complications to a broken leg.
The Lions' reigning best-and-fairest broke his left fibula against Echuca two weeks ago, but received worse news on the surgeon's table last week.
The 25-year-old required pins and a plate inserted in his ankle as a result of other damage discovered in his leg.
Stevenson had initially hoped to recover from the broken fibula before the end of the current season.
A former VFL player with Northern Bullants, Stevenson returned from a spell away from football in 2006 with his debut at Seymour.
Becoming an integral part of the Lions' 2006 and 2007 premiership teams, he earned the club's top honour with the best-and-fairest last year.
``If I can come back from this injury I want to continue my footy at Seymour,'' Stevenson said.
Seymour coach Bernie Haberman's first thoughts were of Stevenson the person, rather than the footballer.
``At the end of the day it's Stevo I feel disappointed for,'' Haberman said.
``Nobody wants to see a guy with his life interrupted by that sort of an injury.''


Saints break through at last
Benalla has produced a six-goals-to-two final quarter to defeat Shepparton United by 32 points for its first win of the season.
The victory was Tim Symes' first as coach of the Saints and was a fine way to cap off Andrew Polwarth's 150th game.
``We've stumbled a bit in a couple of games this year when we've had a chance to win, but we kicked the last four or five goals to make sure of this one,'' Symes said.
``Andy's a really popular guy around the club so it was good to win for him.''
Benalla led at quarter-time for the first time this year and extended a six-point buffer to 10 by the main break.
The momentum changed in the third quarter as a fired up United began to take control of the game and dominate possession.
However, the Demons kicked an abysmal 1.8 which allowed Benalla to retain its 10-point lead at three-quarter-time.
United's woes in front of goal continued in the final quarter with 2.5 and the Saints made it pay with 6.3 to pick up a deserved win, 15.8 (98) to 8.18 (66).
Captain Shane McKean and Kane Cook were unstoppable with five goals apiece from centre half-forward and full-forward respectively.
The Saints' forward stocks will be increased for next week's game against Tatura with the return of Ricky Symes, who kicked nine goals in the reserves.
``He probably gave about six away as well and he played half a quarter at centre half-back,'' Tim Symes said.
``He got through it well and it was good for him to get some confidence, and we'll be happy to have him back in next week.''
Benalla welcomed Murray Bushrangers Ben Birthisel and Farran Priest back into the side with Birthisel providing plenty of run and carry at centre half-back and Priest lively rotating between a forward pocket and midfield.
United's best players were Tyson Sidebottom, Joe Perkovic and Zac Anderson.
The victory ended a frustrating eight-game drought for Benalla dating back to round 17 last year.
``We're not getting carried away because we're still 1-7, but it was good to get a win and hopefully it gives us some confidence,'' Symes said.
``Hopefully we get to sing the song loudly a few more times this year.''


Tigers prove dangerous opponents
Even without two of its key position stars, Rochester returned to the Goulburn Valley Football League winners' list with a comprehensive 53-point victory against Kyabram in front of a bumper crowd at Rochester Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Despite missing centre half-forward Elliot Bowen and centre half-back Brad Collins, the clash between Kyabram coach David Williams and his former team never truly heated up, with the Tigers kicking 9.2 to 1.3 in the opening quarter to establish a big break that they never relinquished.
The Bombers got back to within 27 points at the main break after an impressive second term, but the Tigers quickly stamped out any hope of a comeback with an eight-goals-to-two third quarter.
``I was a bit nervous going in but it was a pretty good performance,'' Rochester coach Daniel Schmidt said.
``We got off to a good start which was important and it really took the sting out of the game, they tried to rough us up a bit, but it just spurred the boys on.''
Watson and Rochester skipper Dean Moon were dominant in the midfield, while Carl Moon and Kahl Oliver kept Bomber forwards Balraj Singh and Paul Newman in check.
Dylan Cuttriss bagged five goals for the Tigers and Anthony ``Tank'' McPhee snared four, while David Newman and James Coulstock kicked three goals each for Kyabram.
The Tigers now sit in third position, but go into next week's match against Shepparton United with injury concerns.
Bowen and Collins are set to miss another week, while midfielder Scott Hand is in some doubt after hurting his ankle on Saturday.
``We won't be taking United


Bears too late out of hibernation
Echuca has rained on Shepparton's plans to celebrate Jason Wells' 300th game in style with an easy 58-point victory over the Bears at Deakin Reserve.
Wells put in a superb performance across the wing in his milestone game, but unfortunately for him not many of his teammates followed suit as Echuca won its third straight match, 16.18 (114) to 8.8 (56).
Shepparton failed to make the most of kicking with the breeze towards the Skene St end in the first quarter, with Chris Cullinan's long bomb its only goal of the term.
At the opposite end Echuca bagged four goals to seize a 23-point lead by quarter-time.
Echuca made full use of the wind in the second by ramming home six goals to one and go into half-time 56 points up.
Bears coach Richard Warburton questioned the commitment of his group at the main break and asked for a more spirited effort, and they responded by winning the third quarter four goals to two.
It was too little too late as Echuca picked up its intensity again in the last quarter to round out a solid win.
``We probably should have beaten them by more because we fell asleep in the third quarter and they outscored us,'' Echuca coach Steven Orr said.
``Our forward 50 entries were up about 20 to 30 per cent on what they had been, so our forwards were getting plenty of chances to score.
``We could have easily kicked another 10 goals that we missed and there's other areas we can improve on.''
Guy Campbell had a field day rotating between centre half-forward, the ruck and centre half-back, picking up a mountain of possessions and beating at least three Shepparton opponents.
Chris Casey had another superb showing in the midfield, Greg Byrne and Tom McKittrick gave nothing in defence, Liam Wilkinson looked lively across half-forward and his younger brother Jake was good in his first senior game.
Nick Allan tried hard in the midfield for the Bears, Geremie Ganino bagged three goals and Andrew Edwards played his best senior game to keep livewire forward Sean Murphy to 3.5 at full-back.
The biggest deficiency in Shepparton's game continues to be its skills and decision-making, constantly turning the ball over by hand or foot which Echuca exploited to great effect.


Cats' confidence remains high
Mooroopna coach Brad Campbell believes his side is ready to tackle Goulburn Valley Football League heavyweight Seymour after cruising to another win on Saturday.
The undefeated Cats relegated Euroa to its third straight loss, 18.10 (118) to 13.9 (87), and have set up an exciting match against Seymour (second, 7-1) this weekend.
Campbell said his side was looking forward to the upcoming challenge.
``It's very exciting. We've been getting a little bit better most weeks and we're probably at the stage now where we are ready to play a side like Seymour,'' Campbell said.
``I've got no doubt the players are excited about it and it should be a pretty good game of footy.''
Euroa got the early jump on Mooroopna, but the Cats took over midway through the first period and did not look back.
With Sam LaPorta and Nathan Tweddle controlling things in the backline, and the midfield group of Dan Collyer, Russell Lee, Brad Lowe and Blake Campbell all solid contributors, the Cats were able to hold off any challenge the Magpies threw at them.
Collyer kicked four goals rotating through the midfield into the forward line, while Marcus Dean and Ashley Hockey booted three each.
``They were on top for the first five or 10 minutes (of the game), but we knew they were going to come out hard having lost their last couple,'' Campbell said.
``But from the last 15 minutes of the first quarter we were able to gradually gain control.
``They got it back to a couple of points on a few occasions, but each time they did we were able to get three or four quick ones.''
Euroa (3-5) is now three games behind Mansfield, Echuca and Shepparton Swans in seventh place and will need to quickly turn things around to be a finals contender.
Mark Jansz played an almost lone hand up forward with eight of the Magpies' 13 goals, while Hayden Lamaro, Andrew Doxey and Scott Watson were also among their better players.


Showing their stuff
Seymour's next generation of senior players staged a breakout performance to defeat Shepparton Swans by 58 points in a one-sided Goulburn Valley Football League Grand Final replay on Saturday.
The Lions had five members of its under-18 premiership side play in the 21.8 (134) to 11.10 (76) win, headlined by seven goals from 16-year-old forward Jake Loraine.
The Swans' afternoon started badly when captain Brett Warburton was yellow-carded and reported for allegedly bumping or making forceful contact to Brendan Liddell from front-on.
The Lions got the jump against the remaining 17 men, and by the time Warburton returned to the field late in the term the momentum was all going in one direction.
A 12-goal-to-four first half saw the Lions take total control of the contest in what was a tactical triumph for Seymour's backline.
Turnovers, a lack of second efforts and kicking to 50-50 or worse contests in the forward line hampered the Swans on an afternoon that took three quarters to regularly produce quality football.
But until the Swans kicked five goals to four in the final term, Seymour's hunger at the contest and punishing rebound football left no doubt as to which was the stronger team.
Paul Scanlon led Seymour's midfield by winning the hard ball and producing the end product, kicking four goals.
Heath Barton and Glenn Dundovic each kicked three for the Swans, while Nathan Bell toiled in the middle as one of their better players.
``At half-time I asked the senior players to lead by example and make sure we completed the job,'' Seymour coach Bernie Haberman said.
``Young players made a big contribution to what was a winning game.
``We set Ryan Klemt a big job on Matt McCarty in just his second game, and Jake Loraine made a massive step up against a really good opposition.''


Desired result is achieved for Smith
Mansfield has honoured loyal servant Warren Smith with a 45-point victory against Tatura in his 250th senior game for the Goulburn Valley Football League club on Saturday.
Tatura went into the game with good memories from last year when it picked up its only win of the season in a boilover at Mansfield Recreation Reserve.
The Eagles were inaccurate in front of goals all afternoon, but were good enough to prevail 18.22 (130) to 12.13 (85) and cap off the milestone for Smith.
``I wouldn't say it was a fantastic display ... we didn't cash in on a lot of our opportunities, but we were happy to take the four points,'' Mansfield coach Christian Thomson said.
``Warren's a laid-back guy and didn't want too much of a deal made out of it, but we wanted to get the right result for him.''
Mansfield made all the running in the first term, but didn't convert as often as it would have liked with 6.7 to lead by 29 points at quarter-time.
Tatura attempted to work its way back into the game in the second, but unfortunately it caught Mansfield's yips in front of goal with 4.7 to go into half-time 25 points down.
Ben Fagan provided a strong target at full-forward for Mansfield, and when he was rested with a slight niggle midway through the third term he had 5.5 to his name.
He sat out the rest of the game on the bench for precaution as Tatura finished off the game by winning the last quarter 5.3 to 2.7.
It only put some respectability onto the scoreboard as Mansfield picked up its fifth win of the year and its fourth at home.
``After a bye, sometimes you can be a bit refreshed or you can be a bit lethargic because you haven't played for two weeks,'' Thomson said.
``The main thing I wanted the boys to do was get the ball into our 50 a bit cleaner to give our forwards a chance of kicking a big score.''
Ben Trenfield generated plenty of drive from half-back with a lot of his kicks dangerous into Mansfield's forward 50, while Brett Mahoney and Dan Roy worked hard in the middle.
For Tatura, Bill Hicks ran hard to break the lines in the midfield, Josh Gledhill was determined in defence and Shane Mulladad kicked five goals on permit from Kyabram District Football League side Girgarre.
A photograph in Friday's edition of The News incorrectly identified Warren Smith, who played his 250th game for Mansfield on Saturday, celebrating the team's 2004 grand final victory.
