I thought he was taking some time away from football.

Taking time away from his current job to think about his future.

"Wells has taken time away from the club to work through his future after more than two decades running the list management team with his roles to be assumed by colleagues."

The Cats have said they expect him to return, but in a reduced capacity. So he wasn't stepping away from footy.

Sure, we could be wrong, but it seems a little coincidental.

Major changes to the football department could mean many things - Maclure has no idea and he said as much last night on Footy Classified.

It maybe structural changes and changes to reporting lines, or personnel changes.

I'd like to keep Hine on in some capacity in recruitment, but think we need someone new to head up this area. Its been negligent that we have not recruited quality key position players over the past 10 years.

Ned Guys woeful performance during last years trade window and the mother of all clusterf**k interview that followed surely puts him in a precarious position.

I doubt any changes are made to Assistant coaches until year end.

Either way, I have confidence that Wright will steer the ship in the right direction (excuse the pun)

Negligent in what way re..

I would have thought Hiney walks into Buck's office and asks the big man.. hey Bucks.. wotta ya need.. Bucks responds with.. eh Hinester.. lets just put all of our eggs in the one basket with big Mason Cox our 'good for structure power forward'.. and Mihocek.. Hiney then goes.. no worries re.. I'll get us some more mids to cover our 2nd tier mids who are covering our 1st tier mids.. and Bucks gives him the.. no worries re..

Or am I wrong.. and Hine does his own thing without consulting Buckley..

Who has been negligent in this regard.. Hine or Buckley or Hine/Buckley?

Was about to say the same thing. Seems a little convenient that he has stepped down from his "full time" role at Geelong.

Nothing to do with him being 61 and considering retirement then?

Let me guess.

Everyone but the coach will be held responsible.

We've gone down this path a few times already.
Probably. Peter Pan Buckley, seems to our responsibility forever. Like we have a responsibility to get Buckley a premiership sometime in the future. King’s article calling on Pendlebury to nurture and support all the young players to save Bucks, seems to be implying that Buckley cannot and does not do any of this. This is a ridiculous situation.

Like most, Buckley was my idol as a player. Now I just actively dislike him and call into question his character. Voss swallowed his medicine and has rehabilitated his coaching career after a monumental failure. I think he now shows more promise than Buckley.

Wow man. Who would have thought both Bucks & Hine used Gimps patended Re at the end of their sentences.
You really are a legend in your own underwear Gimpy. :)

Buckley - “Hi, I’m Nathan. I’m the coach”.

Hine - “Hi, I’m Derek. I manage the list”.

Buckley - “That sounds like a cool job. Give me a buzz once you’ve recruited whoever you want without consulting me”.

Hine - “Sweet bro”.

I think the days of splashing excessive cash are gone with recent FD spending cuts. If you’re spending too much on your numero uno then you can’t put the support around them.

You can but you got to pay the fd tax.

Just pay it what good is earning a heap of wealth if not for being the best we can be for the men's afl team the main reason we follow the club.

There's a reason that the vast majority of Collingwood supporters don't want us to exceed it, and no club is pushing the soft cap. Tax rates start at 100% and can balloon to 250%.

Ok yeah didn't read those changes, the afl has lost the plot.

I heard on good authority that they are replacing the apprentice to the assistant third guesser in the selection panel. Take it as gospel!

Shame, I liked him. Thought he showed some real potential.

But does it really matter if we exceed our spending cap by say $500k and have to pay the AFL $1M in tax? That will all get distributed to the clubs at the end of each year, so we would recoup 1/18th of $1M to cushion the impact. And we would get for e.g. good recruiting staff who could alert the club to potential recruiting prospects.
And what's the good of being a wealthy club, when you can't spend that wealth on things that will help improve our players' on-field performance, instead of netball facilities and the like?

why do you question his character?
Because he does not take responsibility. He threw the leadership group under a bus with the Treleor comments. There are other instances but that was just horrible and showed immaturity. He has taken lately to referring to himself in the third person. That is always a indication that they have lost touch with reality and can only see themselves in the mirror. This is a more recent development but a red flag.

It feels a bit personal to take this path so I’m not a fan of it, but for those that are comfortable going there then Buckley’s comments in relation to Lumumba and throwing the leadership group under the bus on Treloar flew very close to the sun. Having a hit of tennis with his partner in the hub leading to a $50k fine wasn’t his finest hour either...
