Why? There are many, many factors involved and QLD seems like one of the worst ones in terms of money for the AFL. I would have thought in the current climate, that was very important to them.
Everyone always complains the afl only think about money and then they make a decision not based on money and people still complain. Only decision they could have logically made. And if things turn to shit in Queensland, Adelaide ready and waiting to host it.
Hell maybe even WA might get a turn if a zombie apocalypse wipes out the rest of the country which is maybe something 2021 might have in store.

Dosent matter where it is really..
In all seriousness, we all know this year dosent count.
Many dont want to, and never will be able to admit it, but we all know its true.

I can't be the only one disgusted that Gill and co aren't being forced to quarantine when coming from Melbourne into QLD when there's literally a pregnant woman being denied entry across the border for medical care of her unborn child
Please don't spread fake news. This was a lie cooked up by certain politicians for electoral benefit. The woman was not denied entry, it's just that the backlog of medical requests to enter Queensland is absolutely massive. And according to the Queensland CMO, most of these are frivolous requests from Victoria. She got stuck in this pile of requests so they sent her to Sydney instead for medical treatment in-state.

So the AFL could have hubbed in WA, just would have had to quarantine for 14 days before starting up.

Then could have finished the season in front of crowds up to 30K, with a 60,000 capacity GF.

Hardly a deal breaker for the entire AFL season or fu** all.

Seriously have to wonder some times...

lol

The AFL is squandering about 10-12 million choosing the GABBA over Optus Stadium for the Grand Final.

If the AFL used the pre-finals bye as the mandotory quarantine period all of the finals could have been played at Optus, yielding even more revenue.

Odd that in a year with a pandemic costing billions to economies all around the world, and the AFL desperate to squeeze in as many games as possible to get ad revenue, that they do an about-turn for the Grand Final.

Guess the old MCG having 100,000k seating capacity excuse is out the window now...

The potential growth for the game is in QLD & NSW so a QLD GF will do wonders for the future. Its not going to have the same affect in WA.

There is limited potential growth in QLD.

Soccer growing at 18.2% p.a. in the under 14's bracket and 330,000 odd participants, making it by far the biggest organised and growing sport in QLD.

Rugby ain't dying as a result of a one off GF, though it may keep a few expatiates from Covid central happy.

Pretty much over the AFL and may need to renew my West Perth (JF) membership instead, at least until the AFL shows genuine commitment to growing the game nationwide.

Oh wait, that can't happen until 2057 (that'll thrill potential AFL converts in QLD no end).

That's not true. Currently in QLD you can have 50% capacity provided you have a COVID-safe plan. It's only private gatherings where there's no COVID-safe plan where the 10 person limit applies.

I do love a pointless document to tick a box.

What the hell is a 'Covid safe plan'!

Oh you've got a covid safe plan? Carry on. No virus here then.

Nobody cares about Australian professional soccer, not even those who were junior players.

Enjoy the WAFL.

Disappointing result

As much as it would have been an amazing spectacle to have been held at optus, it was never happening: the WA premier was difficult to the point of belligerence, and an organisation like the AFL was never going to let that go.

Can't fault Queensland, they have been accommodating all season and in all sincerity probably deserve the spoils
