Great grand final matchups we were robbed of

Following your logic: every game would be 1st defeats 2nd because 1st is better. 10th defeats 13th because 10th is better. That’s now how sports work: I don’t get how you can’t wrap your head around this.

Every game is different. There are so many factors at play. The location, the weather, the wind, player availability etc.

Geelong have a superior offence, defence, percentage and record against the top 8 than Hawthorn. So why didn’t Geelong beat Hawthorn?

Saying Collingwood would have lost by 14 goals or greater merely because they couldn’t get over the line against Sydney on their home deck by one point is a ludicrous opinion

We’d have broken the 119 record against Collingwood

I think arguing Collingwood V Richmond is probably a more sensible scenario given Collingwood finished above GWS, had the week off, just lost to GWS and GWS were well and truly cooked in the GF.
Collingwood v Richmond in the GF would have been an absolutely crazy build up in Melbourne. Richmond May still have got the better of Collingwood but the match up is one we unfortunately missed.
My one regret over our dynasty isn’t you weren’t able to beat the giants and thus we were denied the chance to smack you in the grand final.
Crying shame really.

Carlton and Melbourne are another two clubs that have played in Grand Finals around the same time such as the late 1930s, mid-late 1940s, early 1960s, late 1980s and late 1990s/early 2000s, but always managed to miss each other in the premiership decider. They came close in 1987, with Melbourne looking home in the Preliminary Final and a Grand Final against Carlton, only for Hawthorn to win with a kick on the siren.

You’ve done it again. Why do bad teams lose to good teams? Is it because each game is different? Why did Geelong and Sydney lose to Hawthorn and Essendon if they are superior in every capacity? Why did West Coast defeat Collingwood?

You’re referring to Sydney’s previous matchup against Geelong which was six months prior and at the SCG? The grand final is played at the MCG. You seem to love your data and trends. Collingwood’s last three results against the Cats at the MCG were decided by a combined 29 points. Why would the grand final have been decided by 85+?

Because the Cats were ALL in full beast mode Saturday from go to woe. Would have ripped the limbs off the pies. No one was stopping G-Train.

Freos manic pressure bamboozled them
Would be like Cavs-Warriors in the NBA but Sydney were cooked
Dockers were never gonna lose that 2013 Prelim final vs the Swans in Subiaco oval in WA.

Swans had like 4 or 5 guys out in their best 22 out. Adam Goodes, Lewis Roberts Thompson, Craig Bolton, Martin Mattner were all injured.

Acutally, Martin Mattner retired mid season with a broken back.

the atmosphere that night Xtreme , it was similar to WWF in your house 16 Canadian Stampede at the Calgary Saddledome.

Main event: Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Brian Pillman, Davey boy smith and Jim Neidhart vs Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ken Shamrock, Goldust, Road Warrior Hawk and Road Warrior animal.

Geelong choking at home to Freo robbed us of a Geelong Hawthorn GF in 2013.

The intensity of the prelim was grand finalesque. Would have been great on the big day.

Would have loved to rub in yet another Grand Final win against the handbaggers but will settle with the Prelim and kick starting our threepeat.

Was an insane finish but the Hawks were the better team all game and bad goalkicking let them down (also 5 rushed behinds) but they overcame the deficit. It's funny how the bad goalkicking shifted to Geelong with Varcoe missing an easy one late. This allowed Hawthorn to narrowly escape a preliminary final for the second year in a row after losing a heartbreaker in 2011.

Carlton Collingwood would be epic on paper but Carlton would be cooked if they'd expended all that energy getting back.
Don’t be so silly, we could have seen the greatest Grand Final of all time this year instead:

Greater Western Sydney vs. Brisbane :$

Obviously have my biases

Geelong vs Hawks 2011
Geelong vs Fremantle 2013 (If only for the Crowley/Johnson handshake rematch)
West Coast vs Fremantle 2015
GWS vs Sydney 2016
Geelong vs Richmond 2017
Collingwood vs Richmond 2018
Geelong vs GWS 2016, 2017, 2019
Geelong vs Collingwood 2022
Collingwood vs Carlton 2023

Agree. We were lucky to be that close.

You would have destroyed us in 2011. That's an unpopular opinion amongst Hawthorn fans, but we weren't ready yet.

It's partly why I just couldn't have cared less that Luke Ball kicked the winner in the dying stages of the prelim.

Collingwood vs Carlton 2023
Would have been bloody epic. Unfortunately we probably needed to play Brissy at the MCG instead to get there and it shows why you need to finish Top 4 and not waste half the H&A season like we did.
