What I would really like to know is why Sheedy has such a hard on for us.

I remember Kevin Sheedy was absolutely smashed in a game against Carlton and was laying flat out on the ground. Legend has it that Big Nick went up to him, and bent over him.

I am paraphrasing here but .....

The umpire said to Big Nick 'that was nice of you, making sure he was alright.' Big Nick said 'bugger that, I was making sure the bastard was dead!'

Sheedy's hatred of Carlton definitely came from our 70s rivalry with Richmond.

I would believe that... he was a massive tosser back when he was a player, and a massive tosser now... 40 years, nothing has changed :D

My old man never tired of talking about Big Nick putting Sheeds on his arse and ruffling his hair like he was 12 years old. Sheeds played tough, not always fairly but no-one got the better of our captain colossus. Laurie Fowler maybe. :(

Well... Bitchmond didnt show up to play that day... they came to cause injury

The reality is Sheedy never got over the '72 GF, despite Richmond beating us in the '73 GF.

Richmond were red hot favourites in '72, having beaten us both times in the home & away season & then giving us a hiding in the 2nd SF replay. Sheedy made the mistake of ruffling Big Nick's hair late in that 2nd SF replay. After that happened Big Nick was never going to let Richmond win the GF & to make matters worse for Sheedy, Big Nick came out & kicked 6 goals in the GF as did Walls. Poor old Sheeds must have thought all his nightmares had come at once.

Of course matters were made a lot worse in '99 when Sheedy's red hot Bombers got pipped by the underdog Blues in the PF. To suffer that once in a life associated with football is bad enough, but to have it happen twice would really hurt.

Eddie Everywhere vs his blood pressure in high stress situations...

like losing to Carlton... having your sure bet Brownlow medalist lose to the Carlton captain... having Sam Newman point out to him that there is a squashed maggie under the Flying Doormats foot in our painting of the Carlton Team of Century.

And while we didnt see it, his head was probably close to exploding when they announced the AFL team of the century and he realised that there were more Carlton players than Filth players in it :D (in fact, most other teams had more players in the team than the filth :))

Thx ODN ... that made me laugh heartily. Also thx to the poster who posted about the 72 Grannie ... slightly before my time but great to read about!

Well 0 selections is not too hard to beat. Incredibly of the 12 elder statesmen clubs of the competition, Collingwood were the only ones not to have a selection. Allowing for multiple club players, represented clubs were:

6 Carlton
4 Geelong
4 Richmond
2 Hawthorn
2 Essendon
2 Sth Melb/Sydney
2 Fitzroy
2 St Kilda
1 North Melbourne
1 Footscray
1 Melbourne
0 Collingwood

A clash of the Titans. Rumble in the jungle (if SE Qld could be described as a jungle).
You line up at one end of the corridor (say Helensvale) and I will line at the other end (say Beenleigh), then we just gather momentum and charge each other full on. The resulting collision will tear a hole in time itself.

I know... read the bit in the brackets :p I did my research and added that bit on before I posted it...

What a bunch of losers the filth must be if they havent even managed to get 1 single player in the AFL team of the century.

I think I will encounter more hills from my end. My momentum may be a little bit lacking (mind you if I get over the hill at Pimpama I will be going at full steam).
