MRP / Trib. Guerra offered three weeks

I thought he went to get the ball expecting Betts to go in hard resulting in them hitting bodies over the ball. Instead Betts pulled out of the contest Guerra over shot the ball and collected Betts. I dont know, to me it looked accidental whilst genuinely going for the ball, got him a bit high - sometimes in these situations I feel it could be just a free kick.
Shame on Goo if he thought for even a minute that a Bluebagger would put their head over the ball rather than squibb a contest!

I don't object to high contact, medium impact, and reckless. Those are what I would probably have graded it, so that's fine. It's not a 'chook raffle', as some claim, it's intended to be as objective a system as possible, but as a result of that, it sometimes throws out results that don't jibe with what many people feel would be appropriate for a given incident. I don't actually think this is one of those times, but whatever.

I do have the following objection to the three game penalty - Guerra has not been reported prior to this, in the previous five years. That constitutes a 5 year good record, and so he should get the good record discount. I dare say the club are aware of this, and will point it out to the AFL. That would bring it down to 2 matches at most, and 2 matches would not be an issue, given who we play in the next 2 weeks. It would be a fine time for Guerra to have a break.

The world has gone mad.

Just read the offences again.

Intentionally striking someone is 1 week (Daniel Jackson)
Rough conduct (level 3) getting 6 points is 3 weeks including spear tackles (Taylor Walker, Stewart Crameri)
Bumping someone (level 3) getting 6 points is 4 weeks

Anderson should get sacked for this ridiculous system.

Edit: Why isn't bumping considered rough conduct?

Add to this Lewis' ridiculous suspension after Monfries staged

And Rioli can get suspended for 'attempted striking' where others get let off for actually hitting but causing no damage.

What a joke

Second Edit:
But wait, there's more.

A level 4 intentional striking offence where you get 7 points is only worth 325 points (or 3 weeks)!
i.e. Brendan Goddard

What a sad broken system this is.

Goo pleaded guilty to a rough conduct charge late 2010, he didn't get time (they challenged he was originally facing 2 weeks) but can only assume this ruins his "good" record.

Loved what he did. Hard, nasty and a bit low - we are at our best when we have the mongrel in us. Worth it, put Bettsy out of action, and now Cheney gets his chance after bog bh box hill. Sounds like a plan.....

We should however challenge/risk it and bring it down to two in time for Coll onwards

Both ways, we win

A joke that this gets the same as Tex Walkers spear tackle. One week at worst but just a free kick for mine. Tough luck lads. Guerra a victim of reputation.

That about sums it up.

Not bloody suprised at all. Any chance that Betts stayed low to win the free kick (close to goal) has not been taken into account either. I have not doubt he would have been trying to win a free. Still a bit reckless from Guerra but four weeks is a flipping joke.

Most of the ones handed out to this club have been. Someone with some video nouse could do a pretty good compilation. Would be a good laugh. I feel for Buddy the most, his were all bs. Cyrils 'attempted' strike is a comical one as well.

Guys the MRP take the toughness of the individuals into contention.

Guerra is like Lewis, they will always be considered the 'tougher man' or indeed the bully in the MRP's case.

On the flipside Betts, Gibbs and Bootsma are the most sweetest of innocent victims that grace an AFL field.

Therefore Guerra attacking a contest against Betts.

Forget it, he was lucky not to get a month.

I'm not one for the tinfoil and won't be in this case either, however one thing I observed at both the Richmond & Carlton games (I mean really noticed) was that our supporters actually understand the rules and scream accordingly - whereas the opposition tools would only need a player to be within 5 centimetres of our player whilst in possession for it to be obviously 'holding the ball'.

Frankly, we need to become more ignorant, loudass, dumb folk.

Anyone who thinks that umpires do not react to audio and mental stimulus is living in pixie land.

He did get a month ( b4 the guilty plea)

On "The Verdict" on afl.com.au Mark Fraser says the Blues medical report had more damage done than what was seen.......

He looked pretty OK to me, went back, slotted a difficult goal and played another 3 1/2 quarters of footy.
Give me a break......

id challenge that every day of the week. it was momentum of him going for the ball. those flogs on the MRP would know going in like that if you miss the ball and fumble of course you will over run it. At worst its negligent, FFS he's going for the ball.

This is Betts we are talking about. Softer than a wet tampon so I personally don't doubt that he reported serious injuries and trauma over the incident.

Weak.

Like has been said, he appeared to position himself to make contact with Betts to keep him away from the ball. Betts quite simply did not got for the ball which made the contact look malicious. In nearly every single contest players try to put themselves between the ball and their opponent.

Still, with the way they assess these things now, it was always going to incur the wrath of the mrp. I'm sick of being frustrated by these conclusions. The entire game has changed dramatically and it's not going back. I'll never stop supporting, but my passion will never burn as hot as it used to.

Hawthorn has the choice of accepting the three-week suspension or challenging the decision.

If Hawthorn challenges, it has the choice of arguing that the charge should be withdrawn (no chance) or that one of the elements to the charge should be downgraded.

Based on the vision I saw on Channel 7 on Friday night, Hawthorn has no chance, so they should simply accept the decision and move in.

At least Hodge is waiting in the wings to return.

Spot on. Overall seems a game or two harsh, but in reality there is nothing in the charge that you could challenge (and have any hope of winning). Why risk an extra week?

Sorry if slight OT but can't start new threads, but watching AFL 360 and showing footage of Taylor Walker, particularly pushing Norths Grima into the post, he's a pure dog, the mullet is'nt for show

The man truly deserves compensation for the hurt and suffering he has endured.
