Guido's role?

Everyone's saying how good he's looking at training, but where will he play?

If it's fair to say that West Cross and Cooney will be virtually fulltime in the midfield, and going on last year probably Eagleton too, it leaves one spot to be shared between Griffen, McMahon, Ray, Guido etc ( and allowing for the rotations)

Will Guido mostly play up forward?

I would think Gia will probably spend most of his time up forward with the occasional burst in the midfield, a lot of our players can all play in different positions so will be interesting to see who goes where.

With the new rules I think we will employ three or four midfield rotations. Plenty of time in the middle for everyone.

I'd like to see Giansiracusa on a HFF but also spending time in the midfield rotation. Guido on one flank and Murphy on the other would be a devastating duo.

I thought last year Eade had the mix about right with Guido.Clearly a more damaging and complete player when he is spending plenty of time up forward.Seems to help his disposal somehow when he moves into the midfield.Just looked much cleaner through the middle last year probably because he wasn't exhausted every time he got the ball.Is a very smart forward IMO.Times his leads well,good in the air,good kick for goal if you take out a few noteabe exceptions and can crumb very well also.

Would like to see Eade occasionally use his work ethic and challenge him with a big role on similar guys like a Ball or Cousins.Not even as a run with but just to push him into the next bracket.He is really starting to come along and seems to be the type that would thrive on these sort of challenges.Would help keep guys like Cross fresh as well.I remember in 97 we rotated the run with roles and attacking roles frequently.Everyone remembers Libba tagging but he was also released every few weeks as well another player will step up and play a role.Keeps the players fresh in the mind.

His ability to scoop the ball up on the half volley and then use it well is outstanding.

I must admit I'm not a fan of him playing as a forward pocket but across half forward with a few runs in the midfield seems a logical spot for him.

Guido could be part of the Mid-forward rotation, players who will spend some time in the middle and alot of time forward.

We seem to have a pretty handy group going ATM, when you consider that Guido, Johnno, Cooney, Murphy and Faulkner are all capable, and I would expect D-Mac to be in that group by the end of the year.

Threads like this are getting alot more difficult when you consider the flexibility Eade seems to have trained into the side.

The only problem is players get stale at half foward because you don't get as many touches, they need to play like the swans fowards who push right up and play like onballers if they were to stay at on a flank

Guido really did have a good season for us and if Murphy can play as a half forward flanker they really will be an exciting pair.

I think with the midfield rotations, you'll see quite a few players work through being on the ball, half forward, forward pocket, bench, so I don't think Murph being on the flank will be a luxury, it'll just be one position he plays in. I think he'll still be a kind of leading HFF, similiar to how he played towards the end of last year. He's too good a leading player to not exploit that.

Or to take your question another way, yes we now have so many good onballers that we can afford the luxury of R.Murphy and Guido on a half forward flank, while Cooney, Cross, West, Griffen, etc get the ball out of the middle.

his slendor build, timid style of play and his poor kicking for goal were a pet hate for me. This last year was a big improvement for him, and he's back in my good books. I'm really looking forward to seeing how he starts this year as it's probably the first from memory that he's been injury free over pre-season. There was the knee injuries and the shoulder problem (which should of been fixed earlier that season!) that have slowed him in the past.

Im a little surprised you didnt rate him until last season but he did have a great year.I think that finger injury was the only blip on his season.

I think he will stay as CHF, this where the road divides and I think Rob has to look towards the life and times of Ablett, Blight and Jarman for his future direction rather than that of midfeilders that we have heaps of.

If Skipper, Morgan, or anyone over 6ft 2 can hold down CHF and we can use Murphy on a HFF as an alternate lead I think we'll be a better team.

I think with the amount of well skilled quality on-ballers that we can rotate a heaps of guys thru there. We should use a mobile big bloke at CHF, just to provide a contest. If the ball comes to ground we will be all over it.
We kicked heaps of goals last year with a small forward line, so I reckon we really need to concentrate on defensive skills in the middle to stop it going back down the other end so fast.
For me Guido can play HFF changing on Wing & in the guts
