Good evening you great and glorious Gumbies, welcome to our Season 38 Catman Medal presentation. Tonight, we award the following awards:

The voting system for the Catman is the same as last season. Each round, there are five votes up for grabs on SIM/playing performance (5-4-3-2-1) with the three highest dreamteam performers guaranteed a vote and two 'captain's choice' picks. In addition there are votes for match thread participation- one vote for 1-4 posts, two votes for 5-14 posts and three votes for 15+ posts. Both the sim and posting votes are tallied with the player with the highest total of votes the winner.

Round one started on a joyous note as we welcomed The_Wookie as Gumbies player #285 and it did not relent from there. We dominated the Bombers, winning all four quarters en route to a big win that has the club atop the ladder after the opening round of the season. bone2468 was convincingly best on ground with rye, Dory_77, ossie_21, Brick Loosener, GWS Goose and Aucklander all performing strongly.

Second up we trekked to Coney Island to take on the persimmon team, now with added Barrybran. It didn't help them though as we raced to a 48 point lead in the third term on the back of cats_09, Mop, Dory_77, NSWCROW, Brick Loosener and The_Wookie all flourishing. Ultimately we did let the Warriors mount a comeback however they never got back within two goals and we enjoyed a 15 point lead to remain one of only two undefeated teams. CatToTheFuture and Jeremias getting a shoutout from the sim for their performances on Baz:​

• While both players struggled to make an impact, CatToTheFuture did very well against Barrybran. - 22m from 3 to 25.​
• While the match-up was a bit of a side-show, Jeremias did well against Barrybran. - 62m from 37 to 99.​

Though different weather conditions, round three was very similar to round two. We enjoyed another pleasant match thread with the Royals and jumped out to a large lead before allowing somewhat of a comeback from our opponents. Jeremias played a fantastic match and was well supported by BlueE, bone2468, Falconista, GWS Goose and Supercheapgiants who made the most of limited opportunities. It was though Aucklander who was the star of the show keeping the reigning Fred Medallist to zero disposals before qoach decided to rest our warrior (pun somewhat intended) for the last 15 minutes.

What a yuck result! Following a match thread which had discussions about older technologies and early computers, we played like a team of older IT bros. Super kicked the opening goal of the match but from there we were belted. At times in the first half, we stayed close on the scoreboard only due to our excellent first accuracy. GWS Goose kicked three goals on a tough day, with the unlikely ossie/Aucklander/Falconista trio going well when in the middle and NSWCROW/CatToTheFuture doing nicely in defence. The sim delivered what is hopefully the lowest point of our season.

We broke our losing streak with a hard-fought defeat over the Demons in bone2468's 150th match. The margin exceeded no more than 14 points at any point of the game to emphasise its closeness. Most pleasing was the way we ran out the match kicking five goals to two in the last quarter. GWS Goose kicked a career best 6 goals while beez also recorded a career high with 136 DT points in the match. Jeremias, Brick Loosener, Falconista and Dory_77 were also prominent.

A second consecutive close game, however we were unsuccessful this week. The margin did not hit double figures in the first half as both sides jostled with the lead. We started the second half well and hit a 13 point lead but sadly from there conceded 5 of the last 6 goals of the match. Mop, beez, cats_09, ossie_21, Falconista and Brick Loosener all got a good amount of ball in the middle. Up forward, The Wookie played a great game and kicked their first goal in qooty; while Dory_77 and HotPiesWithSauce stood up well defensively.

Gee, we are getting a lot of experience in close games. We came out well following the bye and led the Dragons at every change to record a victory against someone in a similar part of the ladder to us. Brick Loosener, beez and cats_09 were all prolific in the middle giving our forwards a great chance. Speaking of forwards, GWS Goose kicked an impressive 5.2 and DinoSoar made the most of limited opportunities with 2.2. At the other end of the field, HotPiesWithSauce and rye thrived from the half back line racking up plenty of disposals.

What the heck was that?!? We score 130 points for the match and still manage to lose. The game started very well as we kicked 9 opening quarter goals as we streamed to a huge early lead. Things though went brown from there as the Hawks piled on 11 second quarter goals to hit the front and not give up their lead. Dory_77 hit 100DT points in a match for the first time in their career in a starring performance at centre half forward. Speaking of career best, both GWS Goose (6 goals) and Supercheapgiants (4 goals) both were impressive up forward. In the middle, the trio of ossie_21, Falconista and Mop were each prominent. Our defenders tried hard in what was a very tough day.

A much better performance this week as we only let the Royals lead once which was early in the game. There was a little blip in the this quarter as the Royals had 11 scoring shots to our four, but we finished strongly and piled on the last five goals of the match. The sim did a fair bit of magnet flipping so many of the team played multiple positions. Tigerlaird and DinoSoar in the forward pocket were spared of this and combined for an impressive 7.3 to be crucial up forward. While in the middle, ossie_21 was excellent and cats_09 tackled frequently. Others to play well include NSWCROW from the half forward line along with StFly, rye, Supercheapgiants and Mop who each were moved around positionally.

After many seasons in the following division, our feathered friend ventured forward and had a very good season where he spent most of the season in the top-six of the Fred Medal. Alas, no all-SFA callup again but gosh damn, he would have been close last season.

GWS Goose, you are the Ninty2Winty winner as season 38's best Gumbies forward. Another Gumbies award to add to your collection.





We had one rookie in season 38, so no suspense to the award this season. The_Wookie dipped their toe in match threads a few times during the season and we hope they enjoyed their experience and have a long and vibrant career to come.

In a pleasing development, we followed up last week's good win with another. We started the match quite slowly and were as much as 28 points down in the second quarter but from there, only two more Furies goals were scored as we got ourselves in front and burst away. CatToTheFuture and ossie_21 owned the middle of the ground combining for a whopping 62 disposals and 225 DT points. DinoSoar was excellent in the forward pocket kicking 5 straight from 5 disposals with GWS Goose chipping in with 3. The_Wookie, Falconista, beez and HotPiesWithSauce all put in good performances also and were important parts of the win.

For the second time this season we defeated the trinket collectors at Coney Island and, as a result, we've propelled ourselves to third on the ladder. It was an exceptionally close match with the margin rarely exceeding 7 points either way until the last quarter. GWS Goose, Dory_77 and NSWCROW were very important up forward combining for 6.6 and put plenty of pressure on the Warriors defence. Speaking of defence, Aucklander and The_Wookie shone and were both excellent. Meanwhile the midfield group racked up plenty of the ball with Brick Loosener, beez, Falconista and cats_09 all having big days and the duo of Mop and ossie_21 winning their matchups. There'll be a lot of Gumbies lining up for votes after today/yesterday's performance.

To quote prominent nineties philosopher Krusty the Clown, "what the hell was that?" It was a lousy day for us after the first quarter with the Bombers running away with a comfortable win kicking eleven goals to four in the middle quarters. Our centreline of Mop, Brick Loosener and ossie_21 were very good and each had no issues getting their hands on the ball. Meanwhile The_Wookie and CatToTheFuture played good games in defence. Sadly, it was not our day and could have been worse had GWS Goose, EagleOz and DinoSoar so efficiently combined their six disposals for six goals straight.

That was a thrashing! We should be flattered the final margin was as close as it is considering how poor our start was in this match. The Roys stormed out of the blocks and led 70-16 in the shadows of half time before we started to lift and add respectability to the scoreboard. cats_09, Brick Loosener, CatToTheFuture (in their 100th game no less) and Falconista were prominent through the middle and collected plenty of the ball. Dory_77, Mop and rye also all competed hard in a tough day at the office. Unfortunately the sim decided our other milestone player and usual mid, ossie_21 should spend plenty of time on the pine.

And now we come to the last award of the night




It was quite the honour to receive this award in Season 37 in what was just my second season of SFA – from being a rookie with kinda no idea of what I was in for to understanding this is a good place to just have some fun and forget about external stresses away from the world of SFA

With the win, then there comes the follow-up of being the one to responsible in deciding how we recognise the winner of this award for season 38. I’ve seen this conducted by both a voting process and an executive decision, and it’s the latter which has influenced how I’ve looked at the award for our past season. Across my 3 seasons with the Gumbies, there’s been one team member who has stood out to me for everything they do for not just this Club but also the work across the SFA Comp – our captain, Falconista

He's an ever reliable, leading presence in our weekly match threads, steps up with match thread OPs, plus has shown himself to be a constant force with owning the season long Fixture, Ladder and Statistics Thread – for those not familar with, it’s well worth reading his weekly write-ups to see what happening across the league. And then if that wasn’t enough punishment, he even decided to take onboard the S38 crazy comp of ‘EXTREME Qooty Tipping’

As a Gumby, in season 38 he then stepped up & took over as our starting ruck and as we’ve seen from the B&F votes tonight, it’s a role he quickly made his own – add in all behind the scenes work that goes with being a captain in this league and it’s safe to say that our captain, Falconista is a worthy winner of the Season 38 StFly Best Citizen Award
